Chapter 322 They Were Caught Red-handed
The man in the room was completely focused on eavesdropping on the movements next door.
Surprisingly, Vivian sneaked in without him noticing.
It wasn't until Vivian tapped him on the shoulder that he jumped in fright.
"Who are you? You scared me! Didn't I tell you I was waiting for someone and didn't need your service for now? Get out!"
Clearly mistaking Vivian for a waitress, the man immediately started reprimanding her.
Vivian didn't say anything but looked down at him from a height.
Then she exerted some force with her fingers on his shoulder blades.
Feeling the pain in his shoulder, the man finally realized something was wrong. "You are not a waitress here. What the hell are you doing?"
As the man spoke, he began to resist.
However, since he was sitting on the ground in the first place, he didn't have much advantage.
Vivian not only grabbed his shoulder first but also stood on a higher ground, using her knee to flip him over.
She stared at the man with cold eyes. "I should be asking you this question. What do you do, and why were you following Brevard?"
"I didn't!" The man started to argue. "Damn it! I just came here for a meal. Who the hell is this Brevard you're talking about? You better let me go now, or I will call the police."
"Is that so?" Vivian sneered. "Do you think I can't do anything to you if you don't tell the truth? I have ways to make you show your true colors."
With that, she took out her phone and started taking pictures of the man's face.
At the same time, the man took the opportunity to break free from Vivian's restraint and ran away.
Vivian didn't chase after him because even if she caught up with the man, he wouldn't tell the truth.
The eavesdropping device he left behind proved that this person was a professional in this field.
Normally, professionals in this line of work wouldn't easily give away their employer's information, but she had already taken a photo of the man's face, which was enough.
But she was also very curious why this person was tracking Brevard.
And what exactly was Brevard talking about in the room next door?
The eavesdropping device left by the man was still there. Vivian picked up the earphones.
However, she only heard two sentences, and her expression immediately changed.
And as she listened further, her brow furrowed tighter.
Only when someone left the room next door did she take off the earphones.
She looked at the wall in front of her. Recalling what she had just heard, she felt incredulous!
...
The private detective handed over important documents to Brevard and then left.
Brevard felt that Girly, who was found out by the detective, was very likely to sleep with Kaysen back then. She was actually Margaret now, but it was just lacking one important piece of evidence.
The detective said they had found a mental hospital.
The mental hospital contained the medical records of Girly from that year and even photos.
But when they went there, the hospital suddenly caught fire, and all the old files stored there decades ago were burned overnight.
This was too coincidental.
Brevard believed that the fire in the mental hospital might have been intentional, so after the detective left, he wanted to call and tell Ethan about this.
However, when he took out his phone, he realized that he had accidentally put it on silent at some point.
There were also missed calls from Vivian.
After some thought, he decided that he could tell Ethan about the private detective's findings when he returned home.
So he immediately returned Vivian's call.
The phone was connected, and the mobile phone rang.
Brevard's eyes widened in an instant because he heard the ringtone coming from the door.
The door to the private room was slightly ajar, and he clearly heard the ringing outside the door, identical to his phone, in perfect synchronization.
He immediately stood up and opened the door.
Sure enough, as soon as the door opened, Vivian's face appeared in front of him.
As their eyes met, Vivian hung up the phone.
Brevard looked at her serious expression and wanted to explain. "How did you get here? I had my phone on silent. I didn't hear you call me."
Vivian's eyes were cold. She didn't want to waste her breath with Brevard anymore and just pushed him into the room.
Brevard felt a little guilty, with no intention of resisting at all.
He followed Vivian's steps as he backed away until his back touched the wall.
"I mean..." Brevard looked at Vivian and forced a smile. "Do you want to hear my explanation first? I can explain."
"Not necessary." Vivian's attitude was very firm. "Where are the things?"
At this point, Brevard knew that Vivian had heard everything just now.
He sighed again. "They are in my briefcase."
Vivian glared at him, then turned around, and went to find his briefcase.
Feeling Brevard following behind, Vivian immediately turned around and scolded him. "Don't move. Just stand there."
Brevard instantly stopped in his tracks. "Okay, I won't move."
He muttered under his breath, "Do you have eyes on the back of your head? How can you see that?"
Vivian didn't bother to talk to him. She directly took out all the documents from his briefcase.
She read quickly, but it took her more than ten minutes to digest the information recorded in the documents.
Seeing her close the files, Brevard felt somewhat hopeless, because now it seemed like he couldn't explain to Ethan. He might even get beaten by Vivian.
He adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat to ease the tense atmosphere. "Well... Can I speak now?"
Vivian immediately focused her gaze on him. "Who authorized you to investigate?"
"Can we take it step by step? I also want to know how you suddenly appeared here. You must have been outside the door, but it's not possible. I even opened the door halfway and didn't see anyone."
"Don't try to derail the topic here. Is it Ethan who asked you to investigate?"
"Vivian, our perspectives on some things are really different."
"Fine, I'll confirm it myself."
Seeing that Brevard refused to tell the truth, Vivian directly turned on Brevard's phone.
Brevard watched in frustration as his phone was instantly unlocked, regretting that he had told her the password when they were in Miriwyth.
Vivian then clicked open Brevard's call log.
She checked and saw that right before she called Brevard, he had just been on the phone with Ethan.
Her guess was right. She immediately dialed Ethan's phone number.
The call was quickly connected, and Ethan's voice sounded.
"How is it, Brevard? Have you met the private detective? How did the investigation of Margaret's identity go?"
Hearing Ethan coldly calling his grandmother's name, Vivian felt a mix of emotions.
"Ethan, this is Vivian."
