Chapter
Julie POV
As I moved closer to him, everything around me felt like it was shaking, and my legs felt like they were no longer mine. in my hand fell to the floor as I collapsed.
The knife I held
When I woke up, it was already dawn, and the party was over. For a moment, I thought it might have all been a dream–the compartments in Alex’s car or the secret phone he uses for his affair. But I knew it wasn’t, as it felt too real to be a dream
A few minutes later, the door opened, and there he was–Alex. The sight of him irritated me, and I felt like throwing the vase on my bedside table at his face.
“Good evening sleepy beauty,” he said with a chuckle. “How are you feeling?”
I ignored his question.
“Are you cheating on me?”
“What?” He froze, his eyes darting to mine.
I could barely hold back the tears. “Answer me. Alex! Are you?”
He shifted uncomfortably. “Julie, what is this about? Where is this coming from?”
“Don’t play dumb with me,” I snapped. My voice broke, but I pressed on.
“We promised each other, Alex. We promised to love each other no matter what, to stand by each other through everything. So just—”| took a shaky breath. Just tell me the truth. If you are, I might be able to forgive you. For Avery’s sake, we can start over. Just don’t lie to
His hesitation was all the answer I needed.
“I can’t believe you’re accusing me of this,” he said finally, his tone filled with feigned hurt. He moved closer to the bed, taking my hand. “I would never cheat on you, Julie. You’re my wife. Why would you even think that?”
I removed my hand away.
“Julie, you’re stressed,” he said. “You’ve been working too hard, overthinking everything. Maybe you have the right to ask such questions; I blame myself. I should’ve been more attentive to your needs, more loving. His voice wavered as tears filled his eyes. “I hate that I’ve made you feel like this. But I will fix this. How about we go on a trip, just me and you?”
His performance was flawless, and if I hadn’t known the truth already, I would have believed him and apologized. He should have been an actor instead of running his own company.
“Fine,” I said quietly
“Julie-”
“Please, Alex,” I whispered “1 need rest.”
He hesitated, then leaned in to kiss me. I flinched, disgusted by his touch.
“Maria is waiting outside, she is worried about you.” He said
“I don’t want to see anyone, I just want to rest.” I said.
“She just wants to see if you are okay” He said.
“Not now, Alex, please, I am tired and just want to resi!” I screamed, barely controlling r
“Alright, just have some rest then,” he said.
my tears.
When he finally left the room, I let the tears flow freely. I felt like a fool, a puppet in his charade. After hours of lying in bed, crying myself out, I grabbed my phone to distract myself. A notification popped up: a banking alert.
One million dollars.

Chapter 3
Alex had withdrawn One million dollars from our joint account.

He had taken it without a conversation with me–my money, the money I had worked hard for. I clenched my fists, my mind filled with questions. What was he spending it on? Bella?
“How foolish can I be?” I thought as I remembered how I begged him for us to have a joint account to be more transparent, but he had refused. This was a silly mistake. Tomorrow, I would go to the bank and shut down the joint account.
The next morning without any delay, I headed to the bank.
As I entered the bank, I quickly made my way to the bank manager’s office. Thankfully, he wasn’t attending to anyone. The bank manager, a middle–aged man with a friendly smile, looked up from his desk.
“Good morning. Mrs. Reed,” he said with a full smile. “It is a pleasure to meet you today. How may I be of help to you?”
I took a deep breath, as I took a seat. “I would like to close my joint account with my husband,” I said, firmly,
He hesitated as he looked up at me, he probably had questions but was hesitant to ask “If I may confirm, you would like to close your joint account with Mr. Alex?” he asked, still looking at me. I nodded.
“Mrs Reed before proceeding, I think you should take a look at the account activity.”
I nodded, at least I needed to know what other transactions he had made without my knowledge.
He pulled up the records and handed me the printed statements. My eyes scanned the paper. Alex had obviously been spending a lot of my money, and he hadn’t even added a dime to the account.
“Mrs. Reed,” Mr. Porter said carefully, “I also need to inform you about a mortgage taken out on your house. It’s linked to this account.” My breath caught, the air suddenly feeling too heavy. “A mortgage?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes. It was
approved last month.”
I stared at him, the words not making sense. My voice barely above a whisper a whisper. “I didn’t sign anything.”
He frowned. “Your husband’s name is on the paperwork.”
I froze, my hands trembling as he handed me the document. My eyes scanned the document, but the words were blurred as I began to panic
“And…” I forced the words out, pointing to another section on the document, “what is this?” I asked
Confusion was written on his face before he answered. “That’s a life insurance policy”
I blinked, confused. “Life insurance?”
“A hefty premium had already been paid Mr.Porter continued
“It’s on your daughter, Avery,” he said quietly
