Chapter 106 The President Misunderstands His Wife
Quinn felt a pang of guilt. She had just told Carl she was at home, but here she was.
Before she could say anything, the woman behind Duncan piped up, "Who's this all dressed up? Your husband? Doesn't matter, this guy's getting canned today anyway. Listen up, mess with my boy, expulsion's just the start. We'll take it from there. I'll make it crystal clear—nothing and no one here is your business. This is way above your pay grade."
The woman wanted to keep going, but Duncan cut her off.
Quinn snapped out of it and shook her head. "Honey, I'm fine, but Alan didn't do anything wrong. He shouldn't be fired. He did a good thing. You... you need to stand up for him."
Carl glanced at Alan, who had a red handprint on his face and was shaking, and Emily, who was holding him and crying. They looked like they'd been through the wringer. His eyes went cold, and anger surged through him.
Not for any other reason, but because he was a man of justice. He'd stood up like Alan once, but back then, he had no one to back him up.
He asked, "Who hit him?"
Knowing his wife and son, and seeing his son's torn school uniform, Duncan could piece together what had happened. He smiled apologetically. "Mr... Mr. Ward, please don't be angry. I think there must be some misunderstanding..."
But Quinn cut in, pointing at Duncan's wife. "She hit him. I saw it with my own eyes when I got here,"
Then she turned to Alan, her voice softening. "Alan, come on, tell Carl what happened."
Alan was terrified. Even now, he didn't dare to speak, his eyes full of fear. Duncan, trembling like a leaf, had doted on his only child, James McCoy, born late in life.
But just now, James saw a look in his father's eyes that made him feel like Duncan wanted to tear him apart. It was the first time he'd seen such a look, and James was too scared to make a sound.
Quinn turned to comfort Alan, giving him courage. "Alan, we're all here. No one will dare to bully you again. Tell us everything."
Carl patted his shoulder. "I'm here. Justice will prevail!"
Hearing "justice will prevail," Alan finally looked up at Carl and saw him nod firmly.
Then he slowly began to explain, "It was James. He started rumors that my dad's a drunk and a gambler, and he threatened classmates to stay away from me. I tried to ignore it, but they wouldn't stop. Soon, the whole school believed my mom and sister were prostitutes, our family was trash, and anyone who came near me would get infected."
He continued, "During gym class, after exercises, we had some free time. I went to the restroom and overheard James bullying three kids, making them spread rumors that I got into the school because my mom and sister slept with the gatekeeper, who then convinced the principal to let me transfer. When they refused, James beat them up and peed on them. And it wasn't just him; he had six buddies backing him up."
Hearing this, Quinn clenched her fists, her heart aching. Carl's face had already turned icy.
Duncan swallowed, his body trembling with fear. "Mr. Ward, I didn't discipline my son properly. It's my fault. I'll make sure to discipline him well in the future. I promise..."
"Honey, when I walked in, Alan was standing there with his head down like he did something wrong. It was this woman who kept cursing and tried to hit him. I saw it all with my own eyes," Quinn interrupted Duncan again, calling Carl "honey" affectionately.
Carl felt a sense of satisfaction, feeling needed by his little wife.
He turned his cold gaze to the woman in the fur coat.
Meeting Carl's gaze, the woman trembled and immediately knelt down, slapping herself and begging for mercy, "I'm sorry! I was wrong! Please forgive me, I'm sorry..." Not being dumb, she could tell from her husband's reaction when Carl entered that he was important, even though she didn't know who he was. But, she immediately apologized.
Having attended various events with Duncan, she understood that if this wasn't resolved properly, her husband would be implicated, and their family would suffer. After all, in all her years with Duncan, she had never seen him so scared.
Not holding back, she slapped herself hard.
Duncan didn't stop her, feeling angry that they had messed with Carl's family, his wife and son even hitting Alan.
This woman was really useless!
Seeing Carl still angry, he turned and kicked James to the ground, then joined his wife in slapping him. "I told you to study hard and not cause trouble! Not to spread rumors! Not to bully classmates and do such despicable things!"
James tried to get up and run, but Duncan held him down, letting the slaps land on his face.
Seeing this, the principal felt like he could foresee his own fate. What had started as a fight between classmates had escalated into something he didn't know how to handle.
But the teachers behind him were more worried, breaking out in a cold sweat when they heard Carl's identity.
In the end, Carl had Quinn take Alan to the hospital for a check-up and arrange for a psychologist.
As for James and his mother, whose faces were swollen from the slaps, Carl ignored them and had Louis supervise, taking the principal out of the office.
Carl didn't stop because he had someone investigating Duncan. Until he found something, he wouldn't stop. After all, dealing with these three, he didn't need to use other means. A simple investigation would reveal plenty of issues.
This way, it wouldn't be personal revenge; it would be rooting out corruption.
With such an arrogant wife, Duncan couldn't possibly be clean.
Besides, a small department head's wife decking out in jewelry, with a fur coat worth a couple of months' salary, was suspicious.
Two hours later, Carl arrived at the hospital. Emily and Quinn were waiting outside the psychological treatment room.
Seeing Carl, Quinn felt a bit guilty. She knew he had stayed up late working and hadn't expected him to come to the school for her, let alone the hospital.
Quinn said, "Carl, thank you so much for today. If you hadn't come, who knows what would have happened."
Much to everyone's surprise, Carl's face turned cold, his tone displeased. "Mrs. Ward, there's no need to thank me. I just showed up; I didn't do anything."
Hearing this, Quinn knew something was wrong. As anticipated, Carl was mad at her; he despised being deceived, and she had lied and been caught.
"I've already spoken to the hospital staff. Louis and Kelly will stay. You come with me." Before Quinn could react, Carl took her hand and led her out of the hospital.
