Chapter 104 Alan's Accident
Quinn stared at the closed door, totally thrown off by the sudden dismissal. It took her a minute to snap out of it.
The woman who had seen the doctor before her walked over with her meds. "Hey, is this your first time seeing Dr. Dickson? You gotta come earlier, it's best to be among the first thirty. I got lucky today, just made it to the thirtieth spot. He only sees thirty patients a day. It's his thing."
Quinn listened and smiled, shaking her head. "I'm not here for a diagnosis."
"Then why are you here? Wasting my breath, seriously," the woman muttered, thinking Quinn was messing with her, then turned and left.
Quinn was speechless. A clinic with no sign, opening in the afternoon, and only seeing thirty patients a day.
Did this Cedric not want to make more money?
Besides being highly skilled, this Cedric seemed pretty stubborn too.
The owner of the small supermarket next door was arranging goods and advised her, "Miss, you should come back earlier tomorrow. Oh, and don't come on Mondays, Dr. Dickson isn't in. Don't waste your trip."
Disappointed, she had no choice but to leave, with Cedric's unpredictable nature in mind.
Ciara rushed to the hospital. Seeing Charles lying on the bed, she was surprised. Before she could take a closer look, Stella asked, "Ciara, did you arrange everything I asked?"
Ciara replied, "Will this really make Carl hate that woman?"
Stella handed a peeled orange to Charles, wiped her hands with a silk handkerchief, and said calmly, "What do you think Carl cares about the most?"
Ciara thought hard but couldn't come up with an answer.
Meanwhile, Quinn had just gotten back in her car. Before she could start it, Emily called, sounding frantic. "Quinn, you need to go to the school. Alan got into a fight! The other kid is some official's son. Alan got hurt too. The school called, saying they want to expel Alan. The other kid's parents are demanding compensation..."
Quinn replied, "Mom, don't worry, take it slow. I'm heading to the school now. Where are you?"
Emily's side had the sound of a car, and Quinn guessed she had just left the neighborhood.
Emily said, "I just left the neighborhood, I'm taking a cab there. Quinn, will this affect you? You asked Carl to help transfer schools, and now this happened..."
Quinn didn't expect Emily to worry about her and quickly reassured her, "It won't, Mom. Carl and I are good. Besides, I know Alan; he wouldn't start trouble. I'll go to the school and find out."
"Alan called me too, saying that kid was spreading rumors about Jake and getting others to isolate him, always mocking him." Emily choked up and couldn't continue.
Quinn comforted her, "Mom, don't worry, I'll handle it. If you get there first, wait for me."
After hanging up, Quinn told Kelly to drive to the school as fast as possible. Kelly glanced over, curiosity written all over her face. "Mrs. Ward, did something happen?"
Quinn hesitated, unsure how to respond.
"Mrs. Ward, should we let Mr. Ward know? He can fix a lot of things with just a word. You wouldn't have to go out of your way." Kelly had one hand on the wheel and was already reaching for her phone with the other.
Quinn shook her head. "No, the company's already swamped. No need to bother him with this. I can handle it."
Meanwhile, Carl was in his car, looking annoyed. "Does Grandpa know about this?"
Louis shook his head. "Not yet. We came to you as soon as we heard. Do you think this could be an opponent stirring up trouble?"
Carl, deep in thought, pulled out his phone and called Quinn, feeling a bit puzzled.
Seeing Carl's name on the screen, Quinn glanced at Kelly and answered.
Carl was like, "You home? What's the deal?"
Quinn's voice wavered slightly. "Uh... Yeah, I'm home, just chilling. What's the occasion for the surprise call?"
Carl replied, "No, just checking in. If anything happens, let me know. By the way, I'm arranging for a housekeeper. To avoid any issues, I'm being very thorough with the screening. It'll take some time. In the meantime, if you need anything, just tell me, and I'll sort it out."
Realizing Carl was just calling about the housekeeper, Quinn felt relieved. They chatted for a few minutes before hanging up.
After the call, Kelly said, "Ma'am, I didn't tell Mr. Ward."
Quinn nodded. "Kelly, get me to the school quickly. I have a bad feeling about this."
Kelly asked, "Okay, Mrs. Ward. But what about Dr. Dickson?"
Thinking about the quirky and stubborn Cedric, Quinn felt a headache coming on.
Seeing Quinn's worried expression in the rearview mirror, Kelly gently pressed the gas, and the Maserati smoothly navigated through traffic.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the school. After verifying their identities at the gate, they entered and heard angry shouting from the principal's office.
"I thought you were some big shot's relative, but you're just a poor relative. My precious only slapped you twice. Even if he broke your arms and legs, you should be grateful."
"There are so many kids at this school. Why did he hit you? This is a golden opportunity to make some easy money."
"Here's thirty thousand dollars. If you admit you started it, I'll give you another twenty thousand. Even if not for yourself, think about your mom who works odd jobs. Fifty thousand dollars is more than she makes in a year."
Alan's voice came through, "I didn't do it. I just saw him picking on someone and had to intervene. He's trying to pin it on me. I didn't lay a finger on him."
Hearing Alan's voice, Quinn's heart tightened.
Though Jake was a jerk, Alan had grown up under her watch. When Jake came home drunk and fought with Emily, she would hide with Alan. Later, Alan would guard the door, protecting her from going back.
Unable to listen any longer, she pushed the door open. "Yes, Alan, our family may not have money or power, but remember, we must be honest. If you did it, admit it. If you didn't, don't. Even if God Almighty showed up, they better be fair. Today, I, Quinn, will see who dares to falsely accuse you. I will also see if this school still upholds justice!"
