Chapter 89 - Fated to the cursed Alpha
Kane
I followed Adele through the double doors, down a corridor to a private room. She stopped outside a large brown door and turned back to me. “She's just in here, I'll give you your privacy, just press the call button if you need me” She rubbed the top of my arm before walking away.
“Come on my boy” I whispered, to the bright blue eyes that were looking up at me. I pushed open the door, it was dimly lit inside. There she was, laid on a bed of white sheets. She looked peaceful, despite the marks over her face and body she just looked like she was sleeping.
She was hooked up to a monitor keeping track of her heart rate. The soft beeping of the machines was the only thing in here breaking the silence.
I stood next to the bed, looking down at the beauty that I call my wife, my mate and my love. Placed a chaste kiss on her forehead. I knew she was being kept sedated but I could see how painful her injuries must be.
“Look who's come to see you,” I said softly as I laid our baby boy next to her, The side was up on her bed so I knew he would be safe laid here with her. He squirmed slightly but his eyes were beginning to close. He knew he was with his mother, he was feeling safe enough to go to sleep soundly.
“I knew I should have gone to the kitchen with you” I whispered. Lifting her hand I held it in mine. “I love you soo much, You're not leaving us, you need to get better and come back to us. You know our son is going to need you, I'm going to screw up so much if your not here to tell me what I'm doing wrong” I looked at them both, they were like two peas in a pod. Both sleeping soundly together.
As if on cue Our little boy let out a soft snore, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. Em slapped me many a time to wake me up because I was keeping her up with my snoring. Seems like it's hereditary. “Well looks like my snoring has upgraded to surround sound, something to look forward to when you come home”
I just sat and watched the pair of them, my need to protect them is stronger than ever. I know the threat to us has gone. But I just have to make sure they are ok, I'm not going to let them out of my sight.
A while later there was a soft knock at the door. Blair opened it slightly poking her head through. “Adele sent me with this” She whispered holding up a baby bottle. I waved her in, I could see her eyes were quite puffy, she had been crying.
“Mind if I come in too?” Kala asked standing in the doorway.
“Not at all, come on” I motioned her to come over, wrapping one arm around Blair holding her to me, Kala walked to the other side. “I'm so sorry this is happening to you” Blair sobbed.
“Yeah, I know, trust me if I could change it I would” I breathed.
Blair pulled back and held up the bottle, “Is he thirsty?” she whispered.
“He's asleep!” I answered as I turned to look back at him. But to my surprise, he was wide awake looking around. “Oh, maybe he is thirsty” I picked him up, Kissing his forehead before trying to pass him to Blair.
“What you doing?” she asked surprised.
“You said you were going to feed him?”
She shook her head slowly, “No I asked if he was hungry, it's his first feed I think you should do it” she held out the bottle to me.
I felt slightly nervous, I had never fed a baby before, how do I even do it? “I don't know, I don't want to hurt him” I answered her trying to pass him back to her.
“Em is out of action, so the responsibility falls to you. Come on I'll show you” She walked past me to a chair that was by the bed. “Come on, sit” she pointed to the seat. I walked to it and sat down, keeping my boy nestled safely in the nook of my arm. “This end goes in his mouth” She pointed at the soft pointy end of the bottle.
“No shit” I mumbled, shifting uncomfortably in my seat. It had been a long time since I had to sit and take instruction off of someone else.
“Now, put it in his mouth and keep it tilted upwards you don't want him sucking air” she handed it to me and guided my hand to the correct position. He wasn't messing around he latched straight on and started guzzling.
“Pointy end in, keep it lifted and don't suck air, got it” I smiled knowing she was giving me a look.
“That pointy end is called the teat, it's designed to be like a nipple for him to suckle” she facepalmed. “I thought Em bought you books about this?” She asked her hands on her hips.
“ I've been a bit preoccupied, Blair, not exactly had the time to sit down and revise for fatherhood.”
“OK, well, considering the circumstances, I think we can let you off” she looked up at Em. “But, I know Em would want us to help you. When she comes home she is still going to need to rest, You have to learn all this so Fatherhood 101 masterclass will begin now.”
"Yay," I sang sarcastically.
"This is the good thing about having sisters Kane, we are here to help" Kala added. "Now when He's done that, he needs burping"
"Burping?" I questioned.
"I thought you were good with kids?" Kala asked raising her brow.
I nodded, "Yeah, kids, not babies fresh out the womb, I like kids to walk and feed themselves, not rely on me to stay alive. I'm not that good at this" I said the last part quietly, the truth was I really didn't feel like a great father right now. I just presumed I would know what to do, I had Em here to guide me.
"It's OK, we will help you, brother" both of them smiled and began explaining everything like I was a child. I didn't mind, they made it easier for me to understand, for that I was grateful. I could almost hear Em laughing at me, standing in front of me with her hands on her hips scolding me. 'I bought you those books for a reason'. In my defence, I thought we had another couple of weeks at least. I always was one for leaving things till the last minute.
We spent the next few hours by Em's side before Adele joined us. "How are we all getting on in here?" She asked as she walked to the machines just writing down a few things.
"No change," I said solemnly looking at Em.
"All her vitals are good, I have her on these machines just to make sure she is improving. If anything happens, the alarm will sound. But I'm pleased to say even just in these short few hours, she has improved slightly". She smiled as she looked between us all.
"Thanks, Doc", I nodded in her direction.
"And how is our newest arrival?" She looked down at my boy.
"Good, He's had his feed, burped and now he is sleeping," I said confidently.
"Good, your a natural" She complimented, I ignored the snickers coming from both of my sisters behind me.
"Any names yet?" She asked.
I looked down at the sleeping angel, "Nah, I want to wait and pick one with Em. We spoke of a few names but never made a final decision."
"I think she would love that, Listen, I know you want to stay with her, and you are more than welcome to. But she is sedated, until at least tomorrow, with everything that gone on. Take the time to go home, get cleaned up. Let little man here get accustomed to his new home. I can ring if anything changes"
I looked at Em, "I don't think I'm ready to leave her, I'll stay" Adele nodded.
"Kane" Kala came to my side, "Think of the baby, he needs to be in a crib, be warm and fed. You know what Em would say if she was awake. She would be giving you your orders to go. But, If you want to stay we can take him, give you some time with Em"
I was torn, looking between the two loves, my heart torn in two. I wanted to stay here. But I wasn't ready to give my son to someone else. I knew my sisters would protect him with their lives, but I knew I wouldn't rest being away from him. "Ok" I sighed, "You will ring me straight away if anything changes?" I double-checked with Adele.
"I will, straight away. But I have a feeling she will be just fine" She smiled, looking back at Em. "She is very lucky to have people around her that care for her so much. If Rose hadn't of been there to help her, this could be a whole different situation, we would be facing. She managed to somehow slow the spread, giving her enough time to get the help she needed. You owe her" She tapped her clipboard on the top of my arm/ "I will see you again tomorrow". She said goodbyes before bowing slightly and leaving the room.
I headed back home in the vehicle the girls came here in. As I reached home Rose came running out of the house, "Let me see him" She said excitedly. her hands covering her mouth in shock. "Kane!" She gasped, "It's like looking at you when you were a baby." I passed him to her as she slowly made her way into the house.
Ryder and Ansel both stopped in the doorway, cooing over him. As I walked up behind Rose, they both shook my hand. "Congratulations man!" they both said together. "And good news about Em, Blair said she's beginning to improve," Ryder asked. as he pointed in Blair's direction. "Girls were giving us updates as much as possible"
I felt a strange tug in my chest, the mere mention of her name. Was I wrong to leave her there alone? "Yeah she's doing good" I smiled trying to put on a brave face.
I walked into the house and was amazed to see it looking cleaner than ever. "Everyone helped, the packs been in and out cleaning, fixing doors, cupboards. Everything is back in order" Ansel explained.
"Yeah I had to go out and buy another sterilizer and bottles, I think I got the right ones. Melissa said they were, Oh, and she premade a couple of bottles when I said you were coming home with little man. They are in the fridge, she said you just reheat them and make sure to check the temperature on your wrist so you don't burn his mouth" I nodded acting like I took all that in perfectly. Whilst looking to Kala like a deer in headlights.
"I'll explain how to do it" She whispered from across the room. Thank the heavens for sisters!
An hour later, I had been shown how to feed, heat the milk, change the diaper and help get him into his first set of pyjamas. It was just the two of us now. The girls offered to have him for the night so I could sleep but I think I would be more at ease with him in here with me. He was such a good boy, I still hadn't heard him cry. I looked down at him one last time before I laid in bed, I had his crib next to me. He looked up at me like he knew who I was and began moving his arms and legs like he was excited.
I kissed his forehead and rubbed his tummy to say night, "Welcome home, my boy"
