Chapter 90 - Fated to the cursed Alpha
Ryder
I had been up most of the night, we had four captives that were found hiding in the forest. They were all supposed to be killed on the spot, but each submitted and asked for the Alpha's forgiveness, pledging their allegiance to our pack. By law we can not kill them, we have to bring them to the Alpha for his final decision, but I feared Kane was under so much stress already.
I didn't want to say anything to him when he got back so late last night. Hoping he was more rested this morning I was hoping to speak to him. I left the cells and made my way back around to the house. It was barely 7 am and I could already hear a commotion in the kitchen.
I was shocked to see Kane, a tea towel thrown over his shoulder making bottles, steam coming from the steriliser as his mini-me lay in a small bassinette on the counter. “Kane, who would have thought the life of a house husband would suit you” I teased as I walked to the fridge grabbing a cold can of pop.
“It took me over half an hour to get that thing working” he pointed to the sterilizer. “I would hardly say I'm house husband material”
“How did this one sleep” I peered into the bassinette at the bright blue eyes staring back at me, I brushed his cheek with my index finger making him flail his arms and legs around in excitement.
“Very well, had two bottles during the night, and slept like a log” Kane answered happily as he screwed the top onto a bottle.
“And you?” I asked him, seeing he was looking tired, I knew having a new baby was tiring but he looked like he hadn't slept at all.
“I'm ok, with everything that went on yesterday I just couldn't sleep. My mind was racing all night long wondering how Em was” he took the towel from his shoulder throwing it onto the side. He rested his hands on the edge of the side, leaning his weight on them, He was exhausted.
“She will be ok, if it was anyone else I would be dubious. But that girl is strong, no matter what is in her way does she fight through it. You really think she will be letting you have all the fun with this little one” I jested trying to lighten the mood.
He chuckled to himself looking back at me “Yeah your right” He walked over to us and looked down at his son. “Mummy will be home soon enough Boy”
“You know you can't keep calling him boy, he needs a name, a strong one like his Uncle Ryder” I grinned.
“He will remain my boy until his mother and I pick a name that fits him perfectly, I don't want to disappoint you but I don't think Ryder will be it”
“How are we all?” Blair asked as she entered the kitchen making a beeline for her nephew.
“All good apparently” I stood back giving her room. “If you are here could I possibly steal Kane away for five minutes?” I asked knowing damn well he wouldn't leave the baby, but with Blair here he may feel more comfortable leaving him in her care.
“Nope I,m going to the hospital, I trust you to make any decisions in my absence” He walked past me, picked up his son and strapped him in a car seat. Wrapping the blanket around him he grabbed the bag he just packed throwing it over his shoulder. “I'm leaving,” He said before walking out.
I followed him out to the car, “Kane there is one matter you have to deal with that I can't”
“What's that?” He asked throwing the bag on the front seat.
“We have four prisoners, all pledged allegiance to you in exchange for your forgiveness” He stood rooted in his tracks. “We found them hiding in the woods, one of them gave vital information about a settlement not too far away where Victor was keeping his men. There are about thirty more men there, unaware of what has happened” He turned to me, still holding the handle of the car seat by his side.
“Kill them all!” He said, his face showing no emotion as he turned back to the car.
“But the prisoners, It's the law they have to be refused by you” I added, I knew this was becoming a raw subject.
He exhaled loudly, looking down at the blue-eyed boy “fine!” he sighed as he began walking around the side of the house.
“Don't you want to leave the baby in the house with Blair?” I asked trying to keep pace with him.
“No, he's not leaving my sight” He deadpanned, heading straight in the door of the cells. Ansel was already there, had all four prisoners on their knees in a line. Their hands are chained together in front of them.
Kane placed the car seat on the table, facing the prisoners. I stood beside it as Kane walked towards the first man down on his knees. He began to plead for his life, beg for forgiveness. “You sided with a man whose intentions were to bring harm upon myself and my family. The result being I nearly lost both my son and wife all in one afternoon!” He raised his voice showing his authority.
“Please, we beg for your forgiveness, we didn't want any part of it, please” The man continued to beg.
“too late, no” Kane stepped forward snapping his neck dropping his body to the floor. The other men began to cry out to him, pleading with him in the hope he would change his mind. He snapped the neck of the second one, I cleared my throat gaining his attention. Nodding my head towards the baby, letting him know his son can see everything.
He walked back to us “My apologies” He said to his son before turning the car seat around so he could no longer see him. Then preceded to go and kill the rest of the men.
"They told us about the settlement where they have all been staying, there's about thirty more of them there, what do you want me to do?" I asked Kane as he walked around to check his son.
"Take however many men you need, go kill them all. Don't bring any back here. None of them deserve forgiveness" He said as he played with his son.
"Ok" I agreed.
"I'm going to the hospital now, ring me if you need me," Kane said as he lifted the car seat and walked out of the room.
Kane
I drove to the hospital. My boy slept all the way here. He has been so good, a part of me thinks he can sense the pressure. I was under. Maybe he knew his mother wasn't here. Who knows exactly how much they know at that age? I walked into the ward where Em was, heading for her room. I opened the door to be greeted by Adele and another lady.
"Ah your here, I was just saying you would be here nice and early" she smiled as she clicked the top of her pen onto her clipboard. "I have just given Embry a shot, hopefully waking her up shortly. Then I can get her off of these machines" she pointed around the bed. The other nurse left as soon as I walked in, Adele was very particular about the people she had in here, especially when she was treating one of us. To see her here I knew Adele must trust her. The humans in this hospital have no idea about us, all they know are the rumours that surround Blackwood forest.
"She's improved? She's ok?" I asked, my brain working far faster than my mouth.
"She's doing well, she has begun healing". She nodded towards her face. I put my boy down on a chair, making sure he was secure in his seat, then walked to Em's side. I could see straight away she looked so much better, the swelling in her face and bruising had almost completely gone. There were just a few cuts left.
I stroked the hair back away from her forehead, "How are the gunshot wounds?" I asked taking in Em's beauty.
"Good, we have changed the bandages this morning, but I think if she carries on healing at this rate, she will be fully healed in a few days. Her heart rate is still slightly below where I would like it but, it's getting there. I'm not concerned"
"I can't thank you enough, Doc. You don't know how much this means to me" I gasped as I looked between her and Em. "Anything I can do for you and your family, please let me know, we are indebted to you."
"Nonsense, it's my job" she smiled as she walked over to see my boy. "I hope this one wasn't too bad for you during the night."
"No, he was extremely good." I praised him.
"And he's taking his feed ok?" She looked back at me.
"Yep, all fine" I told her.
"That's good, we will have to tell your mummy what an amazing job your daddy's doing, won't we," she said to my boy in a Child's voice. " He is doing extremely well, very alert for barely 24hours old. He's going to make a strong Alpha one day."
"He is indeed!" I agreed, smiling down at the blue eyes that were firmly fixated on me
" OK, well, I will leave you. Just ring the buzzer and let me know if she starts to wake up", she pointed to the large red button on the wall behind the bed.
I spent most of the day by her side, there was no change, I was becoming impatient, I just wanted her to wake up and tell me everything was ok and she was coming home to tell me what the heck I had to do. A lady came around and knocked on the door with a small trolley. It contained flowers, sweets, newspapers and various other things for sale.
"Sorry to disturb you, my dear, would you like anything from the cart?" She asked, she was an older lady. I had seen her here before, selling some bits to earn some extra money for herself.
"Yeah sure", I bought a single Rose, and some sweets, I knew Ryder would eat these no problem. I placed it on the side next to the bed, as my boy began to wake up. He had been lying asleep next to his mum for the past two hours. "Time to go, young man" I unwrapped him from his blanket and picked him up. He stretched his tiny body out pulling a strange face as he did so"
I got him all strapped in his car seat and left the room, I planned on taking him home. letting my sisters look after him for a while, so I could come back here. I wanted to be here when she woke up but we had no more bottles made. I saw Adele walk past as I was leaving. "Adele, I'm taking this one home and then I'll be back"
"Ok," She nodded, "Is there no change yet?" She asked.
I shook my head "None"
"I would have thought she would be awake by now," she said confused looking at her watch. "I have a couple of patients to see then I will go check on her."
"Ok, well I won't be long" I nodded as I walked off towards the exit.
Embry
I had been lying here in darkness for so long, It was warm and felt safe, but it was just black. However hard I tried, I couldn't get out of here. It was silent, I couldn't even feel my wolf. It was as if I were floating in the blackness. I remembered we were attacked. He shot me, was I injured or had I left everyone that I loved. Is this what death is like?
As if it was perfectly timed, I began hearing beeping, it was faint, to begin with, but it seemed to be getting closer and closer to me. A different scent hit my nostrils, it was like Kane but covered with strong disinfectant. For the first time, I was able to control my eyes, blinking hard as I squinted my eyes together trying to focus on something inside the room. I noticed it was dimly lit, which was the first thing I was thankful for. My head began to pound as I tried to push myself up.
Something tugged on my arm. Lifting it, I noticed wires were coming and going in all different directions. I looked around me to see various machines all around me. I sat up straight stretching out my body the best I could without it hurting. I looked around, I could sense that Kane had been here, but his scent was kind of strange.
My throat felt like sandpaper, I coughed just once but the pain was too much. I looked around to see if there was some water somewhere. That's when I saw a single red rose laid next to me on the unit. I smiled knowing it must have been from Kane. Picking it up I brought it to my nose and smelt the heavenly scent. As I was about to put it back I noticed something else that was oddly out of place. A baby's blue woolly hat.
I picked it up as dread filled my body. I slowly moved my hand to my belly, "No!" I cried as looked down to see there was no longer a bump there. Why was there a Rose on a baby hat? What did it mean? had my baby gone?
