Chapter 15

Chapter 15
LILA'S POV

Trapped between Alec and Kael on the dance floor was making it difficult to breathe.

And so I take off as soon as I begin to feel overwhelmed.

Not only by their presence but by all the eyes on us.

I run out through the back door, stopping by the pool just outside to catch my breath.

Taking deep breaths, I gather my dress and go to a seat on a chair by the side.

It was going to be all right.

I could survive this.

The alpha twins weren't going to make me lose my mind.

“You're so weak and pathetic it's actually embarrassing to be looking like you and having people know it's not just unfortunate enough to be related to you, but having to be your twin as well.” I don't have to turn to know who just walked out to join me.

From her bitter sneer and malice in her voice, it's obviously Camille.

“Can you just let me be for even a few seconds? What the hell is your problem? Don't you have better things to do?” I yell at her, having enough drama on my plate already.

She gives me a condescending once over and then bursts into laughter like I just said something very funny.

“Dad and mum only let me here on one condition, and that is that you finish what they should have long ago, don't worry, dear sis, soon I'll be the least of your worries.” She sneers at me, evil shining in her eyes.

What had I done to make her hate me so much?

Right from when we were kids, from the lies and accusations she had thrown at me.

The way she had always tried to hurt me.

Both with her emotional slanders and countless physical attacks.

Could I really be that bad that I wasn't deserving of any sort of love at all?

Why couldn't she see me as a sister and not her worst enemy and rival?

“What are you up to, Camille? What brought you here?” She smiles at my question, snapping her fingers, and I stand up, taking a step back as Adrian makes an appearance.

He was wearing a matching sinister look on his face, too, and from the way they were both staring at me, something was definitely very wrong.

“Take a deep breath, Lila; you're going to need it.” And with this statement, Camille charges at me.

I yelp, trying to sidestep her but managing to trip over my dress and fall on my side instead.

“I'll grab her legs,” Adrian announces as Camille and I struggle.

I'm twisting, kicking, biting, and clawing at her so she wouldn't be able to pin me down like she was aiming for.

I try to scream, but she clamps a hand over my mouth, suffocating me.

No, no, no!

I refuse to stay put, struggling with everything in me to no avail.

The attack was completely unexpected, and Camille had always been stronger than me, so I couldn't push her off.

My twisting and struggling are proving futile as she and Adrian lift me off the floor like I mean nothing.

“It was unpleasant while it lasted, Lila; have fun underwater.” At Adrian's statement, what they were trying to do clicked.

I barely make out a scream before I'm flung callously into the freezing cold pool.

I couldn't swim!

My head slams against the edge roughly from the unceremonious throw, and I feel my consciousness begin to leave me as I sink.

The last faces in my blurry vision are Camille's and Adrian's smirking ones as I begin to go down.

ALPHA KAEL'S POV

“Why aren't they back yet?” I growl, and Alec scoffs, giving me a pointed look.

“You've scared her away with your harshness; why would she want to come back?” He snaps at me, and I turn to him, standing to my full height.

It barely intimidates him, seeing as we were almost head-to-head with each other.

I wanted to reach out and just snap his neck.

Not just for pissing me off with his every statement, but for touching my wife.

Having the audacity to ask her to dance.

Right in front of a thousand pack members, when he knew I couldn't lash out and create a scene.

“You talk like you know Lila so well; how can you be sure she didn't run off because of you? You're the one who keeps showing up when she's with me!” I growl at him, trying not to draw attention.

We were waiting for Camille to come back in with Lila after volunteering to run after her and check.

I had wanted to do so myself but had managed to hold myself back after thinking it through.

If Lila wasn't feeling good, what better person would she want to see than her sister?

And so we had let her, and now, about half an hour in, neither Camila nor Lila had made a return.

“Well, at least I'm not the reason she's always trying to run away from pack grounds! You should be thankful I caught up to her the other day, or you'd be having one more dead wife!” He snaps at me, and I go quiet for a second.

Running away again?

That must explain why I had felt our bond weakening the other day, and just before I could go check, I had been informed that she was in her room.

“Don't talk about her in the same sentence as the others.” We're now standing face-to-face, catching the eyes of a few members already.

If we were alone, by now he'd be paying for all his disrespect with his life.

“What? You would rather not accept the truth that you'll soon kill her, too? Are you finally ready to admit that there's no secret as to all the other mysterious deaths, but you're just a sick murderer?” Alec tests my patience further.

I'm one push away from forgetting everyone else here and letting my wolf take control before I feel it.

“Something is wrong with Lila.” We say at the same time.

I feel my heart drop to the floor as every connection I felt with her suddenly breaks.
