Chapter 14

Chapter 14
CAMILLE'S POV

“She won't even see it coming.” I snicker to Adrian, who chuckles darkly, taking a sip from his glass as we stood watching Lila glide in like she was some sort of princess.

She was a nobody.

Never was and never would be.

What did it matter if Dad had thrown her into an arranged marriage far away from home to an Alpha?

It was like Alpha Kael cared for her, not to talk more of even loving her.

He saw her as another one of his many wives.

Just another one that would soon die from the infamous unknown reason the others had passed away.

Trapped in her delusional head of feeling like she was now some sort of confident person because she was married to an alpha, she'd fall right into my trap.

I had planned out everything long before coming here; with Adrian by my side, all that was left was for us to put our plans into motion.

She wouldn't be celebrating her 22nd birthday, for sure… It was time to do what my parents should have done the minute they realized we were two babies.

“She's a green snake in the grass.” Adrian mutters, and I hum in agreement, our heads having been forced into a bow by the power of the Alpha passing by.

I stare at Alpha Kael, feeling a tingling warmth in my belly as I take in how much respect he commanded by just his presence and nothing more.

The way he stood at his stunning height.

Beautiful hair and eyes with his perfectly sculpted body.

I feel Adrian's hand grab mine in his, and a sudden wave of disgust hits me from his touch.

I wanted something new.

Something that wasn't mine.

Something Lila was getting to stand close to that she didn't even deserve.

Eyes locked in on Alpha Kael's every move, envy, bitterness, and longing seep further into my soul.

Just as she and Alpha Kael take their seats on the makeshift throne, a place I should've been occupying… The spitting replica of the alpha I had seen earlier storms in.

Alec… that's what his name was.

Looking just as intimidating and imposing as his twin brother.

Equally handsome, tall, and equally yearned for by me.

Why did she get to have the attention of both brothers, and I had to settle for Adrian?

Her leftover of a boyfriend?

Alec commanded just as much respect as his brother, and I knew for sure there was a story behind him not being Alpha either.

Whenever a situation arose where they were twin alphas, both of them usually ruled side by side.

How come no one had heard of Alec for such a long time, and now he returned?

How come Alpha Kael had been the one ruling single-handedly when it should've been the both of them?

That aside, there was something fishy going on between Lila and Alec.

Something I was sure the alpha wouldn't be pleased about.

It pained me that I didn't have any real evidence as to after catching them in a compromising position in the woods.

It'd be easy to use it to my advantage and get Lila thrown out, seeing as the brothers didn't seem to like each other much.

Alec marches forward to where they're seated, not sparing anyone around a second glance, completely ignorant of the way we were all forced to bow when he walked by.

Alpha or not, the blood still flowed through his veins, his wolf notably more powerful than any of ours.

“What's going on?” Adrian whispers to me, and I roll my eyes discreetly as I try not to pull my hand away from his.

It wasn't like he was blind and couldn't see the alphas were having a stare-down, looking like they were about to pounce on each other.

“Let's just watch and see, but we can't forget the main motive of today: keep an eye out for when we catch Lila alone, okay?” I remind him for about the hundredth time.

Coming here without succeeding would be an absolute waste.

Once I couldn't afford all the effort the plan had taken me.

“Alec,” Alpha Kael's voice booms, cutting through the tense silence.

“Kael.” Alec replies with equal hostility, standing in front of the seated alpha, eyes locked on Lila's.

“Today is a good day, is it not? Why don't we put our issues aside for the night at least?” Kael states, giving his brother a pointed stare.

Slowly making my way through the crowd with Adrian on my tail, I try to get closer to them.

Maybe I'd be able to make sense of this terrifying tension if I witnessed it up close.

“And that's precisely why I've come to request a dance with the birthday girl.” Alec replies.

I snort silently, feeling jealousy fill me.

Like it wasn't my birthday too.

They both turn to Lila following this request, and I can see how conflicted she looks.

What had to be conflicting about having to choose between dancing with your husband's brother or not?

Many things didn't add up in their dynamic.

“I'll dance with you.” She finally answers, and I can see the equally confused expressions on faces around us.

Murmurs begin as they stare, watching the alpha shaking with unmasked rage as Alec helps Lila to the dance floor.

Halfway into their dance, everyone else gradually begins to join, skillfully weaving and gliding on the floor in pairs.

I'm in Adrian's arms, but all my eyes are locked in on Lila and Alec.

Looking too comfortable in each other's arms.

Alpha Kael soon walks up to them, cutting in and demanding it's his turn.

The tension doesn't go unnoticed as the brothers take rushed turns in spinning and twirling Lila around, and soon she snaps.

A sadistic grin paints my face as I watch my sister excuse herself, definitely feeling overwhelmed by all the attention.

Meeting Adrian's eyes that it's time to utilize the given opportunity. I volunteer to go after her and check if she's fine, and no one argues, seeing as I'm her sister.

Adrian sneakily exits the hall too as we rush after the direction she had taken to the backyard pool.

Our plan was falling right into place.
