Chapter 16
Chapter 16
KAEL'S POV
Red.
All I can see is red.
Flaming hot rage courses through me, a terrible mix with the panic as my eyes zoom in on Lila's body in the red pool.
She must've been injured somewhere, making her blood mix with the water around.
I react just before Alec can comprehend the scene, diving headfirst into the pool.
Hurriedly, I pull out her limp form, laying her down on the floor.
“What happened here?” Alec screams at Camille, who stands wearing a shocked face beside Adrian.
“I was just trying to talk to her, and she kept screaming for me to let her be!” She cries hysterically.
“And then she wouldn't stop walking backwards, I tried to get to her in time, but she slipped and fell in, hitting her head.” She continues, sobbing into her mate's chest.
“Someone get the doctor right now!” I order as I try to check for a pulse on Lila.
It was so faint it almost wasn't there.
“We need to perform CPR on her and get the water out first”, Alec says as he comes to kneel beside her too.
His presence wasn't so irritating to me at the moment.
And that was because he was thinking of ways to help my mate.
“She's bleeding out from her head, we have to get her to the infirmary.” I point out, taking her cold hand in mine.
“I can perform the CPR.” The crowd made way for the one who had just spoken.
I turn to see one of the maids, who I'm guessing was called Isabella,, run up to us.
There's no time to argue or wait until the doctor gets here, so I begrudgingly step aside as well as Alec, giving her space.
She's fast and seems to know what she's doing as she checks her vitals and then begins the compressions after positioning her well.
This couldn't be it.
Lila couldn't die thinking I hated her.
She couldn't die just after awakening a new kind of emotion in me.
One I hadn't felt in a long time.
With every compression and blow, my heart beats faster.
Isabella is determined, and we all hold our breaths in anticipation, as I pray to everything that my wife will be alright.
Lila suddenly twitches and sputters before beginning to cough.
I rush back to her side as we help her lie on the side so she can spit out all the water.
“Hey, hey, look at me, you're fine, you're alright.” I try to grasp her attention as she groans in pain, clutching get injured head.
Quickly taking off my jacket, I place it against the bleeding area, applying pressure to slow it down.
“I'm going to pick you up now okay? Take slow breaths and just relax.” I assure her, slowly lifting her up in my arms.
Alec is watching me with an unwavering expression, eyes locked in on my hold on Lila.
He was going to have to put aside his mate jealousy and let me get Lila to the infirmary immediately.
He thankfully doesn't stand in my way because currently, I was definitely going to kill anyone who did and I hurry off.
Lila's small groans and whimpers stop as I run, and my panic triples when her eyes begin to droop.
Just as I get to the infirmary, running into the doctor and ambulance team that were about to head out, she loses consciousness.
ALEC'S POV
“What the fuck did you do to her?” I don't have to look up for the person I'm talking to know it's her.
I'm so close to snapping her neck off as she gasps in exaggerated shock, sobbing more.
“Me? How could you ask me that? She's my sister! I would never do anything to hurt her!” Camille exclaims and I roll my eyes.
She hurt Lila.
It was all just pretence.
I could see clearly beyond her facade and I knew for sure what a conniving, two-faced bitch she actually was.
She might've been fooling everyone else around, but she couldn't fool me.
“I'm going to ask you one more time: why did you push Lila into the pool, you witch!” In the blink of an eye, I'm standing in front of her.
My hand is around her throat, threateningly tight as my wolf fights to come to the surface.
She hurt, mate.
Mate was bleeding and in pain.
She deserved to feel that same level of pain.
“What the hell, man? Have you gone crazy? Get your hands off my mate!” The excuse of a man she calls her mate, Adrian, tries to pull me off.
A look from me is enough to have him rethinking if it was really worth it to test me any further.
“I swear I didn't do anything! Please let me go, you're hurting me.” She's a mess of snorts and tears as I press harder on her neck, making her whimper.
“To be honest, I don't like you, not since the minute I set my eyes on you, nor will I ever. You better pray really hard that Lila's going to be okay.” Staring into her eyes with my expressionless ones, I flash her a dry smile.
“Because if she's not Camille, the moon tonight will be the last both you and Adrian see; you were the last people to be around her… Lila didn't slip and fall into the pool; you're a horrible liar.” I spit at her, dropping her to the floor harshly.
Stepping back in disgust, not caring for the pack members who were watching the commotion, I scoff as she wheezes for air, coughing as Adrian tries to help her out.
For once, I was going to have to trust Kael with something I cared for.
It wouldn't be conventional for me to be the one carrying my brother's wife to the hospital while he stood there.
And so I'd stay back and only go there after dealing with Camille.
The thorn in our flesh that Kael had overlooked.
“Keep an eye on the both of them; they shouldn't be let off pack grounds until I say otherwise.” I give the order to the guards standing around.
Barely sparing the couple a second glance, I hurry off towards the infirmary, desperately trying to feel Lila through the mate bond but failing.
Why couldn't I feel her?
