Chapter 13
Chapter 13
LILA'S POV
Avoiding Camille, Adrian, and everyone else was almost too easy.
Thanks to Isabella, I didn't need to leave my room for food.
Unsurprisingly, Kael hadn't looked for me.
But surprisingly, though, neither had Alec.
Before I know it, it's my birthday… one of my most hated days.
The day I wished I hadn't even made it into the world to begin with.
It wasn't like anyone needed me here.
“Ma'am? Can I come in?” Isabella knocks, and I put away my book, sitting up in bed.
“Yeah, Isabella,” I reply as she pushes the door open, coming in with a massive box in hand.
She had brought me breakfast earlier, so what was this?
“I was instructed by the alpha to bring this in for you; there's a note inside. A guard waiting outside will walk you when you're done.” She seems to be in a hurry, placing the box on my bed and hurrying back out before I can ask any questions.
Curiosity gets the best of me, and I push aside my irritation for Kael, scooting closer to the box and prying the lid open.
There's a beautiful dress wrapped up inside, shoes, a bag to match, Flowers and a small piece of paper.
“Happy birthday… Ring the bell, and whatever assistance you need will be provided for.” As I read it, I searched the box and pulled out a tiny bell I hadn't noticed before.
What was Kael up to this time?
I shake the small bell softly, and almost immediately, a team of people bursts into my room.
“Good day, ma, let's get started with your hair, why don't we?” The chirpy woman in front of the unfamiliar people states.
I stare back and forth between the box, the note, and the people.
“Who are you guys, and what's going on?” I ask, and she giggles softly at my look of confusion.
“We're your personal hair and makeup team, and we're here to make you look like a princess.” She doesn't say anything next, as in the next second, they swarm all over me.
I'm snatched up and planted onto the dress chair, feeling like a thousand hands are working all around me at once.
My hair is pulled, straightened, steamed, and curled all in a crazy rush of routine, makeup being handled by another team at the same time.
In less than half an hour, they've managed to transform my usual lazily kept mid-back-length hair into a wave of beautiful volume and made my bright blue eyes, which matched the dress, look brighter and more alive, popping with colour from the stunning but mild makeup.
And I'm all dressed in the form-fitting dress that was free-flowing from the knee downwards and looked like something royalty would wear.
On cue, the guard Isabella had mentioned earlier comes in, and I'm whisked away along with him, following a path I wasn't very familiar with.
He stops just outside a huge, open-roofed building of sorts that looked ethereal with its designs and the reflection of the moon casting down upon it.
Not saying a single word to me, like he hadn't all along, he then walks off, leaving me standing there, flower in hand.
Was I to go in?
Where was everyone?
“Happy birthday.” A breathy whisper behind my ear startles me, and I gasp, almost tripping.
A hand shoots out, wrapping around my waist and steadying me.
“Careful, my clumsy, stunning wife; we don't want you to hurt yourself on your birthday now, do we?” He jokes, planting a surprising kiss on my cheek.
“What's all this, Alpha?” I can't help feeling timid around him.
The last time we had spoken, he hadn't been the nicest in the least.
I could still remember how he had yelled at me and sent me off.
What was he playing at by setting this up?
I was trying to be careful, not knowing what I'd say next before he lost his temper all of a sudden on me again.
“Stop calling me Alpha Lila, you're my wife, and that makes you the Luna of this pack, deserving of equal respect like me. And this is your birthday present… happy birthday.” He grins at me.
I don't know if I should be more surprised at the fact that he was full-on smiling at me or by what he just said about the present.
“Thank you so much… It's all so lovely.” I gush, feeling excited, and he chuckles lightly at the childlike joy in my eyes.
“Then let's head in so you can enjoy it.” He offers me a hand, which I accept giddily, letting him lead me inside the brightly lit room.
There were a lot of people inside, a few I had seen around who were definitely pack members.
A huge food buffet table sat in the middle, housing various meals, snacks, and a gigantic cake seated at the middle.
All eyes are on us the minute we step inside, before they gradually all go down in bows of respect and acknowledgement as we walk down the path.
“This is spectacular...” I whisper, voicing my inner thoughts, and I can see the pleased smile on Kael's face at my statement.
I catch sight of Camille standing just by the makeshift throne at the end of our walk, wearing a bitter look alongside Adrian as they glared at me.
I feel a confident smile growing on my face as I give them a full-blown grin, feeling more beautiful than anyone here tonight.
Not even Camille and all her effort could belittle me at the moment.
It didn't matter if she had always gotten the shine; today was my day, and I was going to enjoy all the effort that had been made to make it special.
All my smiles and excitement froze as I saw Alec marching in with a determined look on his face, not long after we had seated, eyes locked on his brother's, who looked equally murderous.
I could just feel that things were about to get awful once more.
