Chapter 37 Chapter 37: What's There To Discuss?
Leila Ryker's POV:
I have to say this was getting rather interesting. Here I was waiting on text messages from two different individuals, both of whom seemed to want something from me. I take that back. On the one hand, Klay seemed like he didn't want anything to do with me at all, let alone want something from me.
As I thought about it further, there was a connection that we both shared. One that I had with him that made no sense at all. I didn't quite understand it, nor could I process why the connection came about in the first place. However, the only thing Klay could think about as for his personal goal was to break the connection between us.
Then there was someone else completely different. One who I would consider to be the total opposite of Klay. Alaric seemed to hold himself to a higher standard in a way. As if that was how I could explain it to myself to better understand why he was the way he was.
I couldn't help but wonder in the back of my mind if those two had something against each other. The more I thought about that particular instance, the more I remembered the day I was sitting on the stairs of my aunt's apartment with Alaric. That's when Klay rushed up right at the moment Alaric tried to kiss me.
From that point on, I just knew in the back of my mind that Klay didn't like him. He had tried to tell me to stay away from Alaric, but I was well enough on my own to make my own decisions and who I hung out with and such.
Right then, I was getting aggravated as this was seeming to take way too long. I was still waiting for a reply from them both. It was rather late after all, especially after that botched date. Honestly, what's taking them so long to respond to a simple text message? It's not like I am being inconsiderate and trying to ruin their night.
I thought to myself as I was still waiting to get another reply from Klay as well. Did Alaric not see that I asked him where he wanted to meet me, to make up for tonight? Granted, tomorrow was a Sunday. No matter. I still had to work, but I could make some time before then.
'Are you going to respond to me or not?' I asked in another text I sent to Alaric, but I thought that specific thought to myself as I sent it to him. Then I also sent him, 'Are you wanting to meet me or not?'
I was starting to get impatient. The more I needed to get to bed, the grumpier I got. I still had to get sleep so I could get up in the morning. An attempt to start another day filled with chaos, among other things. There's no telling at this point.
I was about to say just forget it when my phone chimed, signifying that a text message had come through.
'There is a park about a block away from where you work. Will that work?' The message from Klay read.
I sat back on my bed, defeated, as I dropped the phone beside me. I don't see how I had another choice.
But what was I supposed to do? Klay didn't want anything from me, and it was like Alaric seemed to want something from me. This was just too complicated.
Just then, there was another time on my phone. As I looked at it, the screen lit up. The message was from Alaric.
'I know you have to work eleven. I can stop by then if you wish after you arrive. Let me know.' Alaric's message read.
"Great," I said out loud to myself. "I just hope he doesn't want to cause a scene at work. That is the last thing I need. I've already been fired once, only to be called back by Monty and hired under mysterious circumstances. What else could go wrong?"
"Fine," I said as I typed up two different text messages with the same phrase and sent them.
'That will be fine.' I sent to Alaric, and 'I will see you there.' I sent to Klay.
As long as the two of them didn't cross paths, I didn't think there was going to be an issue. They were supposed to meet me an hour apart. What else could go wrong?
I stood up, walked over, and put my phone on silent before I put it on the charger. I don't need any more disturbances tonight if I can help it. Then, when I walked back to my bed, I threw my covers back before crawling into bed. This is definitely going to be an interesting evening.
When I lay down with my head on my pillow and covered myself back up, I rolled over on my side. I had so many things running through my head that it was hard to fall asleep.
However, before I even realized it, I had seemingly passed out. I found myself in a random dream. It wasn't all that often that I remembered my dreams, but I certainly thought this one was particularly odd.
In the distance, I could hear my name being called. "Ryker... Ryker..."
"I'm over here," I shouted as I found myself looking around the wooded area.
"Ryker... Where are you?" I heard a random voice call out again.
"I'm over this way," I called out again as I found myself trying to make my way through the dense area of trees. "I'm over here!"
Suddenly, it was like I heard someone talking, but they were talking to me. As I neared a small clearing, I could hear voices speaking at a normal tone.
"Ryker! Did you find her?" One particular individual asked, standing in the clearing, speaking to somebody else.
"Ryker?" I asked softly out loud to myself. "My name is Ryker. Well, my last name is. Who is that?"
I was whispering as I hid behind one of the trees there at the edge of the clearing, trying to listen in on their conversation.
"No, Alpha, we were unable to find her," said the individual standing in front of the person whom they called Ryker.
"Sir? They called Ryker an Alpha?" I couldn't help but ask myself in a whispered tone. "What is going on here?"
Suddenly, it was as if they turned to immediately look in my general direction. I thought I had been found out.
I quickly pulled my head back around the side of the tree as I laid my back up against the bark. It was almost as if I could feel it. It seemed to poke right through my nightgown as I looked down at what I was wearing. It seemed to be the same thing that I went to bed in.
If only I could have seen their faces. I've never heard that before, as I'm pretty good about picking somebody's sound of voice out of the lineup.
Buzz buzz buzz... I heard in the distance.
"No, it's my alarm!"
