Chapter 38 Chapter 38: What A Weird Dream
Chapter 38 Chapter 38: What A Weird Dream
Leila Ryker's POV:
Well, that was the most uncertain yet interesting dream I have ever had. I thought to myself as I rolled onto my back and began to rub the sleep out of my eyes. My phone was still buzzing the alarm that I needed to get up.
"Might as well start the day," I said as I tossed the covers back and then stood up on my feet as I walked over and turned my alarm off on my phone.
Sure enough, it was a few minutes just after 9 o'clock. I needed to hurry up and get ready so that I could meet Klay at the park before I had to go into work at eleven. It's not like I had a vehicle or anything, so I had to walk wherever I went.
I was never fortunate enough to get a vehicle for my aunt. That would've been the furthest thing from anything that she thought I would've deserved. Love was definitely not on that list. Not even from her. Appreciation? That didn't happen either.
I quickly got myself ready as I got into the shower. As the water started running, my mind couldn't help but wonder, going back to the dream I had last night.
When I placed my face under the running water of the shower head, I couldn't help but wonder why that particular person's name was Ryker. An Alpha no less. Did that mean what I thought it meant? That this particular individual... Could have been a werewolf?
"No, let's be real here," I said as I pulled my face out of the water after wiping my face and running my hands back through my wet hair. "It's just a strange dream."
I quickly finished up everything that I needed to get accomplished while in the shower and got out, dried off, and dressed before I even realized it.
"Is it me, or is this morning just seeming to fly by?" I asked myself aloud as I walked over to pick up my phone on the dresser and my bag so that I could head on out.
I shrugged my shoulders as I walked out of my apartment, closing the door behind me.
My head was kind of in a daze today, which was unlike me. I didn't understand a lot of things about Klay or the fact that he was a werewolf. I didn't understand the reason behind the connection that we shared either. It's not like I could go to my aunt, who was my only living relative that I knew of, to ask questions about why things were happening.
Just then, my phone buzzed in my hand as I was walking on the sidewalk. I lifted up my phone and looked at it, and my eyes went wide with shock.
"Speak of the devil," I said as my eyes read over the name that was flashing across the screen.
It was my aunt. She had sent a text message. She wanted to meet.
"That made absolutely no sense," I said as I left the concrete sidewalk and walked through the grass of the park, as I had arrived at my first destination.
'Well, this is going to have to wait.' I said to myself within my head.
As if reading my thoughts again, I instantly heard Klay speak up from across the area, and that's when I heard him say, "What's going to have to wait?"
"What?!" I asked out loud this time as I looked across till I laid my eyes upon him. "I didn't say anything!"
Oh wait. I did say something, just not out loud where anyone else could hear me. I lightly shook my head back and forth as I realized Klay had read my mind in that precise moment.
I remained standing there as I watched Klay run at a slow pace to reach where I was waiting for him, in a dense area of trees. As he was rushing up to me, I looked down at my phone. It was five minutes before 10 o'clock. He was early. Why was he early?
"I'm glad you could make it," Klay said as he slowed his pace to a quick walk, closing the short distance to me. "Are you ready to get this over with?"
"I'm as ready as I'll ever be," I said as I dropped my bag off my shoulder so I could put my phone in my bag.
I didn't need any more disturbances at this particular moment.
"What did you mean?" Klay asked me right then.
"What are you talking about?" I immediately responded, asking him back.
"You had mentioned that this is going to have to wait," Klay spoke up right then. "Did you not want to try to break the bond today?"
My jaw dropped open as no words came out, and I lightly shook my head from side to side. I still didn't understand how he was able to read my mind, but even then, my own thoughts were safe to myself. It didn't matter what the situation was. And I didn't understand how he was able to pick certain thoughts out of my head.
"Can you just stay out of my mind?" I asked in frustration. "You know that's one reason in particular, which is why I look forward to breaking this bond with you. I still have no idea how that took place, or why."
Right after I said that, it was like Klay looked as if he were visually defeated. I couldn't help but furrow my eyebrows whenever I looked back at him. Klay seemed to realize his change in facial expression and immediately wiped it clean as if he had never looked that way in the first place.
I lightly shook my head back and forth to myself as I looked back up at him, dismissing that fact altogether
"So, what is this particular way in which you attempt to break the bond?" I asked him as I dropped my book bag down, completely setting it beside my foot there on the grass.
"Here I will show you," Klay said to me as he put his phone in his back pants pocket. "Hold your hands out like this."
As I looked at Klay, he held his fingers wide apart as if surrendering, but he placed his hand up in front of his at the point of his shoulders.
I reached up and scratched the back of my head at that moment, as I looked at him standing there in front of me with his fingers set wide apart.
"You want me to copy you?" I asked, dropping my hands back down to my sides. "Like right now?"
"Yes, but you have to put your hands on mine, just like I'm doing," Klay said in that moment.
I furrowed my eyebrows once again as I looked at Klay. He took a step closer to me, and I took one step back.
"No, that's the thing, Leila," he called out to me in a low tone. "We have to be right in front of each other."
I was reluctant, but I stepped closer to him.
"Now what?"
