Chapter 56 I thought you forgot about this place
After much thought, Danieru finally understood Camilla's plan. He had read it all, and now it was his turn to introduce her to the company as his personal secretary.
The man leaned back, closed his eyes, and tilted his head back. Danieru took a deep breath. He didn't know what to expect, but he would try to keep fighting for this.
The man thought back to Camilla's problem. Up until this moment, she hadn't spoken about her past. He opened his eyes and pondered this. His curiosity continued to rebel, compelling him to delve deeper into Camilla's situation.
Danieru immediately sat up straight, glanced at the clock on the wall, and smiled slightly. Perhaps asking his father-in-law about this directly was a good thing. He quickly stood up and reached for his phone. Now he had to do what he wanted. If Camilla could freely help and interfere in his life, why shouldn't he?
Danieru grinned and quickly sent the document Camilla had been working on to Derin. Luckily, he had the man's email address, making everything easier.
"Okay, let's get started." Danieru stepped away. He had to visit as soon as possible, and that too without his beautiful wife knowing.
Danieru headed to the garage. He hadn't said goodbye to Camilla when he left the mansion. He didn't care if Camilla would be angry and consider him too intrusive. He was definitely going to help her.
Danieru immediately headed to one of his cars. It was black, and it made him feel quite cool when he got out of it.
The man pressed a button on the remote control connected to his car key. He smiled as the car door opened. Danieru quickly got in, then closed the door and drove out of the house.
While Danieru left the mansion, Camilla watched him leave from their bedroom balcony. She just stared blankly, her heart aching slightly as she remembered what he had said to her moments earlier.
Camilla looked up at the sky, remembering when her childhood friend Danieru had been shot. She kept wondering, was the Danieru who was now her friend the same as her childhood friend back then?
Camilla quickly shook her head. It was all clearly impossible. Their attitudes were so different, and Danieru didn't seem as warm and kind as her friend.
Camilla had many things to consider. Everything about Danieru, her husband, and Danieru, her childhood friend, were such stark contrasts.
The beautiful woman lowered her head again, remembering the changes in her mother. After she returned home, her mother disappeared for a while and ended up in prison for murder. From what she heard from her father, the person her mother killed was just an ordinary employee at a New York hotel.
Reflecting on the past made Camilla feel a little uneasy. She quickly went inside and lay down again. Camilla's eyes closed, trying to sleep and mend her troubled heart.
...
Danieru had just arrived at the Alistair family mansion. She smiled as several servants bowed and smiled kindly. The mansion wasn't too far from the city center, but it was quiet enough to feel undisturbed.
"Young Master, please come in." An elderly woman immediately opened the door for Danieru. She led the family's daughter-in-law into the living room, and the old woman didn't ask Danieru much.
Danieru simply followed, seeing numerous family photos, including one from when Camilla was a teenager. He hadn't paid much attention to his surroundings before, and he was quite surprised to see every aspect of the mansion.
The two continued walking, and soon they arrived at the central room of the mansion. Danieru stopped immediately, seeing his mother-in-law sitting there reading a magazine. The woman was quite annoying, and Danieru didn't like her habits. He remembered lending her money in the past.
"I thought you forgot about this place," said the mother-in-law.
Danieru looked at the old woman who had escorted him. "Ah, Camilla and I have been busy and just returned from Macau."
Mrs. Alistair closed the magazine, placed it on the table, and looked at Danieru. The woman glanced at the maid who had escorted her son-in-law, waving her hand as a signal for her to leave.
"Sit down," the woman said when the maid had left. She leaned back on the sofa, a smile forming on her lips.
"Is Father here?" Danieru asked matter-of-factly. He would have preferred to have his curiosity satisfied sooner, as he didn't know what to talk to his mother-in-law about.
"My husband is in his study," Mrs. Alistair replied. She exhaled a shaky breath and reached for the magazine on the table again.
"Very well, I will go see him in person." The man immediately looked around and saw a servant who had just emerged from one of the rooms. The servant was carrying a tray with a cup of hot drink.
"Go ahead, the servant will be heading to my husband's study."
Danieru didn't say much; he immediately walked over and followed the servant. His eyes darted around, quite drawn to several paintings.
The servant, realizing someone was behind him, immediately stopped and turned his attention. He was quite startled to see Danieru, almost dropping the tray in his hands.
Danieru approached the stairs and quickly reached for the tray. "Lead the way, I'll give it to Father."
“Yes, sir… yes, Young Master.” The servant looked a little stiff, barely able to form words.
Danieru simply smiled, then followed the servant. They climbed the stairs and soon reached the top floor.
There were three long hallways upon arriving. Danieru glanced at the servant, and he walked down the left hallway to his father-in-law’s study.
They continued walking, neither of them daring to speak a word. Danieru also looked around; there were many doors on both sides of the hallway. They continued walking until they reached the end of the hallway, and saw a dark brown door, tightly closed. The door had two sections, and it had intricate, elegant patterns.
“Young Master, how is Miss?” the servant asked.
Danieru didn’t expect the servant to finally speak. “Camilla is fine; she was out doing some work when I arrived.”
The servant slowed his pace, perhaps quite surprised. “Work?”
“Yes, she’s working on some proposals.”
The maid immediately stopped. “Miss, are you handling company matters?”
“Yes, Camilla is quite skilled at that.” Danieru waited for the maid to open the door, eager to meet his father-in-law.
“Miss often refuses to work in the family company, and I was quite surprised when she did.”
Danieru couldn’t believe Camilla never helped her father in the company. She was so skilled, and his curiosity deepened. How could Camilla never be directly involved in her family’s company? Wasn’t she incredibly intelligent?
“But Miss is often a frequent companion for the Grand Master.” The maid then looked at Danieru, smiling so gently that he knew how much she cared for Camilla.
Tok ...
Tok ...
Tok ...
Danieru, who had been stunned by the knock on the door, looked up at the servant, who was standing upright.
“Come in!” A voice echoed from inside.
Danieru looked around and saw a relatively small speaker above the door.
Click...
The door opened, revealing a middle-aged man sitting behind his desk. The man appeared to be studying some documents, looking very serious. Danieru and the servant quickly entered, but Danieru remained silent.
“Sir, excuse me for taking so long.” The servant bowed.
Danieru, still behind the servant, remained silent, waiting for his father-in-law to take a moment to distract himself.
Mr. Alistair quickly closed the documents and glanced toward the door, pleased to see Danieru behind the servant.
“You may leave,” the man said, standing up and walking toward Danieru.
The servant who had escorted Danieru to the room immediately withdrew, closing the door behind him as he left Danieru and his master.
“Is Camilla not here?” asked Mr. Alistair.
“Ah... Camilla is running some errands.”
Mr. Alistair, hearing his son-in-law's words, simply nodded. He then took a deep breath.
“Please sit down. Father has missed you both very much.” Mr. Alistair walked to the corner of the room and sat down with a smile.
Danieru followed his father-in-law's lead, placing the tray and cups on the table.
“Thank you,” Mr. Alistair said upon seeing the warm tea. “What would you like to drink? Father can ask the servant to bring it.”
“No, I've had too much soda today.” Danieru smiled.
Mr. Alistair nodded and reached for the teacup, taking a whiff of its aroma. The man seemed to be enjoying it, and this didn't go unnoticed by Danieru.
Danieru glanced at the desk and saw a photo of Camilla and two other children.
“That’s a photo of Camilla when she was fifteen,” Mr. Alistair said.
Danieru then focused his gaze. “Father, may I ask you a few questions?”
Master Alistair put down his teacup, took a deep breath, and smiled. “What’s bothering you?”
“It’s about Camilla, and I can’t wait to know everything.”
Master Alistair nodded. Perhaps now was the time to speak, and he felt confident.
“What really happened when Camilla was fifteen?”
