The Betrayal

Chris's car was speeding away. Dust flew, soaring behind the car. He ground his teeth. His emotions were currently running high. And it was caused by his sister's humiliation.

"You'd better get out of here. I'm giving you a chance to stay alive," Joe said fiercely. "We're still brothers after all."

Chris put the gun back in his hand. He felt like a loser who lost the war. The plan he had so carefully laid out was now in tatters. Someone had betrayed him, and allowed Briana to escape.

The betrayer was Angela, his girlfriend. Angela gave John and his friends a drink that she had laced with sleeping pills. After they were all unconscious, Angela took the key to the room where Briana was kept. With a quick move Angela helped the girl escape.

"Angela. Open the door!"

Chris pounded on Angela's bedroom door, yelling as he got no response from Angela. He had been standing there for five minutes, but the door hadn't opened yet.

Angela got up from the sofa and lazily walked over to the door. She opened the door to find Chris standing there staring at her. She wouldn't be afraid of Chris

"What have you done? Why did you let that girl go?" snapped Chris. He raised his hand, preparing to slap her on the cheek. He had to teach Angela a lesson for making such a fatal mistake.

Angela stepped aside from the doorway to make way for Chris to enter her room. She should have run away with Briana. But she didn't because she loved Chris so much.

"I feel sorry for him. He's young, and deserves to live," Angela replied quietly.

Chris gave Angela a sharp look and groaned loudly upon hearing Angela's answer. He walked back and forth and looked a bit disheveled with his disheveled hair and rumpled suit. A minute later he decided to sit down and face Angela.

Chris growled. "How could you let Briana go when you don't know the wrong she's done to me."

Amber returned Chris' stare no less fiercely. She then snorted in annoyance. "I don't want her to die in vain."

"Angela!" snapped Chris. He stared intently at Amber.

Angela put her index finger to her lips. This time she wasn't going to let Chris intimidate her. "Don't yell at me, I've been trying to endure all your abuse. But not today," Angela said more boldly.

"You're ...." Chris had lost his temper. He slapped Angela so hard on the cheek that the corner of her lip bled.

"Prepare to receive your punishment after this. I will not let a traitor go free." After saying that Chris walked away from Angela.

Angela burst into tears. Maybe her life would end soon. And she had prepared herself for when that time came.

Actually, being Chris's lover was not her dream. At that time she desperately needed a place to take refuge after receiving violence from her previous boyfriend. It was Chris who came to her rescue.

Suddenly Angela remembered her daughter who was far away. It had been a long time since she had seen her little girl. Who knows how she is now, Angela doesn't know for sure.

"Mom. I got a perfect score today!" Rosie said out loud as she walked over to find her mother. She smiled widely and was very proud of her achievement today. Rarely did she get the opportunity she had been craving for so long. She also wanted to be praised by her mother, just like her brother.

"Mom!" Rosie's voice rang throughout the house.

Rosie's mouth dropped open when she saw her mother suddenly appear in front of her with a swollen face and blood stains on her mother's lips. Rosie's tiny hands tried to touch her mother's face.

"Mama ...." Rosie immediately hugged Angela's waist. The test paper she wanted to show her mother slipped out of her hand. It wasn't important anymore.

"Listen mom. From now on we will live separately. You won't see me anymore," Angela said after that.

A few days later Angela took Rossi to an orphanage. She left Rosie there. Angela was forced to do so because she didn't want Rosie to suffer the same fate as her. It was with a heavy heart that she had to part with her only daughter.

That day was the last time Angela saw Rosie. She could still clearly hear Rosie crying as she walked away from the orphanage. She was currently doing well.

Chris went to John. He slapped John on the cheek, then punched John hard in the stomach. He was very upset that John and his friends had let Briana go.

"We're sorry boss. We didn't expect Angela to give us a drink with sleeping pills," John pleaded guiltily.

"I don't want to hear your excuses. You've let me down," Chris said, then he left John.

"Angela has conspired with Joe, Boss," John shouted.

Chris immediately stopped his steps at the sound of the shout. He turned his body around. Then he approached John once again.

"What do you mean exactly?" urged Chris looking impatient.

"Angela called Joe before letting Briana go," John said quietly.

Chris's hands immediately clenched into tight fists. He hadn't expected Angela to do that. Not only did Angela let Briana go, she also conspired with his brother.

Chris looked intently at Angela. He slowly approached her. The look in his eyes was no less deadly.

"It turns out I misjudged you all this time. You secretly betrayed my trust," Joh said quietly. Then he turned to look at Chris.

"Now it's all up to you. You can choose who you trust. Him or me."

"I'm not who you say I am," Angela snapped no less fiercely. She had not been given a chance to defend herself.

"It seems like it's useless for me to talk at length." John looked at Chrt and Angela in turn. Then he took out a brown envelope, and handed it to Chris.

"What's this?" Chris looked at John with a puzzled look.

"You can see for yourself." After saying that, John turned around and left Chris' room.

Chris opened the brown envelope. Inside he found several photographs. He quickly took them out and was astonished by what he saw there.

The look on Chris' face instantly turned stiff. He grabbed a photo, staring at it for a few moments. He mercilessly crumpled the photo into nothing.

"Tell me, what are you looking at?" asked Angela in an agitated tone.

Chris looked at Angela. At first glance, the look in his eyes was smoldering and frightening. He threw all the sheets of photos at Angela.

The sheets scattered under Angela's feet. He bent down and picked up a few of them. Her eyes widened as she stared at a portrait of herself sitting in front of a café with a man.

"Can you tell me what's going on in that picture?" Chris's voice was low, but it sounded very scary. "How did you meet him?" she demanded.

Angela stuttered, and struggled to speak. She shuddered, wanting to close her eyes and not look at him. She couldn't understand how such a brief encounter could have been discovered by Chris. Now she wanted to get the hell out of here.

"I...he's ...."

"You met with him to conspire with Joe," Chris snapped irritably. "You cooperated with him. And you betrayed me for him."

Angela's hands flew up. "It wasn't like that. Your assumptions are wrong. I have nothing to do with all the accusations you're throwing at me," Angela said desperately.

"Now I don't want to see you. You'd better get out of here as soon as possible." Chris immediately turned around, his back to Angela.

Angela's mouth dropped open. It was hard to understand. Chris had dismissed her so easily without waiting for her explanation. Chris didn't give her a chance to defend herself.

"I'm completely innocent. I never betrayed you," Angela said quietly. "I met with him because I had something to say." After giving her explanation, Angela hurried out of Chris's room.

Meanwhile at Joe's house. Joe walked slowly as he left Briana's room. The girl was currently in the middle of resting after a hard day.

Joe had to thank Angela for helping him free Briana from Chris' captivity. Who would have thought that he would get help from the person closest to Chris. After receiving a call from Angela, Joe devised a plan with Antonio to buy time for Angela to carry out her actions. Without Angela's help, Briana might not be with him anymore.

"We can't let our guard down," Joe told Antonio. "Chris must be up to something by now. He must be holding a grudge, not just against Briana, but against me too."

"So, what should we do, Boss?" asked Antonio.

"Of course we have to plan one step ahead of Chris."
