THE CORNERSTONE?

THE CORNERSTONE?
Chapter 83

Alessia's pov

“Cyril, Nooo!!’’ I screamed horrifically as blood oozed off Annalise's throat, splashing all over Cyril’s hand and face.

She hadn't seen that one coming. No one did. The painful look in Annalise's eyes as life sipped out of her. There were still chances of saving her. There were still chances that she might make it alive if I stopped Cyril now.

I dashed forward to pull him off, but it seemed his anger had taken more parts of him than imagined. He dug his claws deeper into her flesh, the squelching sound echoing within the walls with Annalise choking grunt. More blood pumped into his palm, flowing across his stained skin and dropping to the floor like a flowing tap.

“Cyril!!!’’ I screamed in horror, my legs stiffening to a compelling stop as I watched the terrible scenario before my sight.

Cyril withdrew his claws with such great force, more blood came spilling off Annalise's throat.

“No!’’ I staggered back, watching Annalise's eyes go blank and her head dropping downwards. I stumbled flat on my butt, unable to withstand the appalling sight.

“Dispose it.’’ Cyril stated, referring to Annalise's body.

I couldn't believe my ears.

“I should take it to her husband, he might want to see her for the last time.’’ Alan answered, completely unaffected by whatever happened in the last few minutes.

Speak of ruthless! How could I have forgotten that so easily? The Lycans were ruthless creatures who wouldn't blink an eyes to go on a bloodshed spree.

“Then do that.’’ Cyril simply answered, turning over towards the door were I grouped on the floor.

My heart bursted at once as his scary eyes darted my way. My breath seizing up in my lungs, I struggled for air while forcing attempts to move aside the path for him.

Without another glance at me, he started onwards, stomped past my frame and out of the room.

Silent tears found their way through my lips. My heart clenched with the horrible experience of Annalise's sudden death. I couldn't believe she was gone when she literally spike some minutes ago.

I watched Alan bundle up her remains. Not a single word he spared at me until he was at the door with Annalise's corpse hanging over his shoulder.

“You are not ready to leave? I'm locking this place.’’

“How can you be so unaffected? Don't you have even a tiny piece of conscience left in you?’’ I poured out my thoughts without reluctance.

“Get up. It's late into the night, you should be in your bedroom.’’ He answered instead, ignoring my question.

“This isn't right. Butchering her like that wasn't the right thing to do!’’ I yelled.

‘‘I'm out of here. The guards will be here to lock it up in ten minutes.’’

With that, he walked out.

The continuous bangs on the wooden surface was starting to build a pounding headache in my skull.

Mustering strength, I pushed my weight off the bed to realize it was a knock from the door all these while. I managed to climb down the bed, dragging my feets along the tiles to open the door without even finding out who it was first.

“Hey!’’ Thompson bursted in, almost pushing me down as he shut the door in a rush.

“Th-thompson?’’ I called, my grogginess averagely dispersing.

He picked my wrists, staring softly but impatiently into my eyes.

‘‘We need to leave here right now. Pack up and come with me.’’

“Wh-what are you…talking about….’’

‘‘It's dangerous. Both for yourself and Adrian. I can't have either of you remain here.’’ He urged.

Dangerous!

That word echoed soundly in my head all through the night. The brutal death of Annalise. How unaffected both lycans seemed after the scary incident. It all spelt dangerous!

“Are you okay?’’ I asked in the softest voice I could, subconsciously. “Annalise…’’

“Shhh.’’ He stopped me, grabbing my shoulders in a soft squeeze. “The more reason you have to come with me. These lycans are dangerous.’’

I swallowed hard. No matter how intensely I tried reasoning with him, I couldn't picture myself with Thompson ever again. If I had to leave the lycans kingdom anyway, Silverstone wasn't an option either.

“I-I'm sorry….’’

‘‘There's nothing to be sorry about, Alessia. Whatever happened to Annalise was what she deserved. She tried to hurt Adrian.’’

“Yeah that and… and myself.’’ I almost interrupted.

“What do you mean yourself?’’ He paused.

“I can't leave.’’

“What? You… you can’t?’’ He scoffed out a chuckle. An obviously unintrigued chuckle. ‘‘Why not? Why can't you?’’

‘‘I have to do what I have to do. For Adrian. For us…..’’

“You don't have to….’’

“For destiny!’’ I broke into him, commanding silence around us. “To fulfill my destiny. It is what I should do.’’ I added.

“Alessia….’’

‘‘No, Thompson. Don't try convincing me cause nothing's gonna work. If Adrian has to get out of here with you unharmed, I have to fulfil my end of the deal. There are no other ways about it.’’

‘‘I'll find a way.’’ He insisted.

‘‘I'm sorry about Annalise. I couldn't even do a thing to help her.’’ I said sincerely, an image of last night crossing my head.

I had the least memory of how I got to the room last night. I'd simply woken up some time at midnight to find myself in bed.

“Tell me one thing, Alessia. You don't have plans of mating with the lycan king, do you?’’ Thompson bursted out of the blues, leaving my mind in a vast void.

“H-huh?’’ I hadn't seen that coming from him.

“I'm your husband. I apologise for every unruly behaviour I directed at you. You can forgive me right?’’ He urged, stepping closer to cover up the little gap between us.

‘‘Um…Thompson….’’

‘‘I'm sorry, Alessia. I promise to make up for everything. Whatever you want, just say the word.’’ He closed our faces in a wet kiss, pulling me into his frame like his life depended on my warmth right now.
