STANDING FIRM
STANDING FIRM
Chapter 84
Alessia's pov
Hairs poked agitatedly on my skin, following the irritation that builded up in my guts as Thompson's lips moved wetly against mine. Cold and fucking too soft for my preference.
I pushed him off immediately, not minding the rash force with which my energy pulled.
He staggered back and almost ceased into the wall, however, kudos to his Alpha experiences he maintained stability. Not without widened eyes at me though.
“I..I uh…am sorry. I just… it's just um….’’
A knock came at the door, interrupting the crazy moment. Perfect timing!
“I'll get it.’’ I moved to get the door quickly, avoiding Thompson's stunned gaze on me.
“Oh.. uh. May I help you?’’ I asked as Lance's face came to view.
“Mr Weverse is who I seek. I know he's in here, you even have his scents all over you….’’
“Gosh I wasn't trying to lie about it, why try so hard?’’ I slapped my forehead in frustration.
Lance pushed the door wider, stepping a foot out to hold it open.
“Get here Mr Weverse, it's time to go home.” He announced.
Turning over to see Thompson stretching out his jacket properly, I moved out first to avoid the guilt that came at me upon noticing the disappointed look on his face.
“Baby!’’ I called once I spotted Adrian at the living area, rushing up to pull him in an embrace.
“We are returning home, why aren't you dressed yet?’’ He asked, literally pulling out of my embrace when it barely even started.
Boom! I hadn't explained things to him. He was oblivious of all that was going on which was quite fine, but me not returning to Silverstone with he and Thompson. That was one huge explanation I'd have to make him understand.
A heavy sigh blew it's way off my face, my heart beginning to falter as I searched for what best words to feed him with.
“Hurry up and go put a dress on, we have to leave soon.’’ He urged, looking up ahead of me. I almost turned to check out what he stared at but his gaze returned.
“Daddy is here already, we don't have lots of time to wait for you so be quick, will you?’’
“Baby….’’ It broke my heart to disappoint him, especially at this time, with everything that'd happened the past days.
“Sad but your mother won't be joining us back home. She has chosen to stay here instead.’’ Thompson echoed loudly from behind me.
My eyes swelled wide open in bewilderment, rising on my feets to face him.
“What are you doing?’’ I fired.
“What do you mean? Didn’t you choose to stay here by your own will?” Thompson drew out, completely feigning ignorance.
Okay, was this his way of getting back at me for disrupting his kiss?
“Why do you make it sound like I'm trying to neglect him? It's also hard for me!’’ I screamed.
“It's okay.’’ Adrian reached my leg, tugging at my dress. “You don't have to fight over it, just go get dressed okay?’’
“Adrian.’’ I tried saying, but he shook his head.
“You have to get dressed before daddy decides not to wait for you. I don't believe him. You don't want to stay here without us right? You’re leaving with us right?’’
“Adrian, please.’’ My emotions caught up. Tears pooled up my vision and dropped effortlessly. My heart clenched with the words that were about to leave my lips, how much damage they were likely to cause Adrian.
“I'm sorry.’’ I managed to say with tightened chest. “I promise to get back as soon as possible.’’ I added admist struggles.
“No.’’ His little lips spelt out, his full cheeks curving downwards by seconds.
‘‘Please, baby. Just a few days, I promise it won't take long…..’’
“Let's get out of here, Adrian.’’ Thompson interrupted before I could landed properly.
I tried taking Adrian's hands, maybe soft light squeezes might help keep him assured. But he yanked his hands away before I could g. et them, moving ahead to join Thompson.
“Adrian! Adrian!!’’ I called and called after them, but he refused to spare even a single glance back.
“Excuse me.’’ Lance went after them, leaving me to my grief alone.
Adrian had never ignored me, no matter the circumstances. Instead he always came to me for succour.
I dropped to the floor, sobbing silently, even though it didn't seem like I'd reach my heart content anytime soon.
“My lady.’’ A maid stepped into the space, she slowly approached me but stopped halfway. “Oh, I'm sorry my king.’’
With that, she turned and left.
Turning over with the new unsettling realisation, I found Cyril indeed standing right there, watching me so intensely that I was forced into doubts that he was conscious of my stare on him.
Bringing my hands to wipe my face, he eventually jerked back to the present. Of course he'd zoned out these whole time. But what did he have going on his mind?
“You should've asked for him to stay longer if you were going to bawl your eyes out this way.’’ He spoke, putting gentle steps forward towards me.
A scoff left my lips. “I wasn't bawling.’’
“If you say so. We had a topic to be discussed this morning right?’’ He answered, halting on his tracks just a slight distance to me.
“How about you don't bring it up now? As you can see, I'm not in the best mood.’’ I stood, ready to leave for my bedroom.
“You're sure this isn't the best time to hear it? I'm afraid you might have to bawl the whole night if we move it.’’ His voice stopped me.
Inhaling deeply, I exhaled sharply and turned to face him.
‘‘What is it about?’’
“Aren't you even by the slightest chance eager to know what process is attached to redeeming the kingdom with your supposed special energy?’’ He threw.
It seemed almost as if he wasn't sure of the best right way to present his discussion.
“What process is involved?’’ I inquired uninterestedly.
Maybe because I already knew the answer to it, even though a part of me still wished for some positivity in his response.
