CHAPTER 162 A PICNIC

“I was surprised when she told my sister she would return early.” Selena left his side and went back to her closet. “What are your thoughts on this one?”

“But it is pretty thin. There’s a lot of cold outside.”

“You, Selena, are a werewolf. You don’t feel cold. Come on, if you need fur, I can cover you with mine.”

Selena blushed as she grabbed the top from him. “You’re so good with words.” She wore the top and retrieved her trousers from the bed. Selena was ready in no time. When she had finished, she turned to face Titus. “Let’s get the fuck outta here,” she exclaimed.

They started their walk right into the woods. When Selena suggested taking the car, Titus declined. He wanted to spend the remaining hours holding her hand and keeping her close to him. They chuckled their way to the nearest tree, holding hands. Selena was astounded by what she was seeing. She came to a stop and looked at him.

“No, you didn’t.” She was stunned.

Titus nodded. “I hoped to see a smile on your face. Estry’s actions and what you saw were not your fault. It was a battle of two werewolves.”

“You did great, Titus. I mean, a picnic?” she gasped as she ran towards the tree. “This is lovely, Titus. Thank you for your efforts to make me smile.” She kissed his neck after wrapping her hands around it. “I love you so much. Titus.” Selena spoke as soon as she let go of his lips.

Titus held her hand and assisted her in sitting on the sheet that had been laid on the floor. He sat across from her. “I’m glad you’re smiling, Selena. I love you too,” he said, opening the picnic basket. “Tell me now, do you like strawberries?”

Selena took in a deep breath. “I absolutely love it.” As she watched Titus dip the strawberry into a bowl of chocolate, she couldn’t stop smiling. It was as if she was seeing someone else in front of her. Selena could not help but think while chewing on the strawberry as she watched him feed it to her. Should she be worried about the bad luck, or is it something that’s not true?

Titus looked at her, and she smiled. She smiled even though they were a mix of real and fake. She fed him some of the fruit, and they could not keep their hands away from each other. On that floor, they kissed and played romantically together.

Selena was awakened by the sound of an owl. She looked at Titus, who had caught her attention. “You are awake.” Titus stated.

Selena raised her head from his lap and stretched her body. “For how long have I been asleep?”

“Oh. You were so exhausted from our lovemaking that you did not notice when you fell asleep.”

Selena pulled out her phone to check the time. She gasped. “You could have woken me up. It is late already.”

“Selena, I wanted you to sleep.”

Selena rose to her feet. “We need to go. Unless you want to spend the night.”

He gave a sly grin. “That won’t be bad.”

Selena scoffed as she pulled him to his feet. “Let’s go.” She picked up the basket and the sheet. Titus offered to carry it while he took them from her. He also kept Selena close to him as they walked home, placing his hand on her shoulder.

Titus let go of her hand and walked to the door as the mansion became visible to them. He opened the door and looked at her. “Ladies first,” he stated.

“Thank you.” Selena chuckled softly as she entered the apartment.

“You should go inside and have a bath. Spending another night together won’t be so bad, right?”

Selena shakes her head. “No, it won’t.” She kissed his lips. Titus’s voice interrupted her as she turned to walk away.

“Wait,” Titus replied. Selena turned her gaze back to him. “Before I forget, I want to show you something.”

Selena studied his eyes. “What is that?” She wondered.

“Please wait here. I’ll be right back.” Titus cheerfully made his way to the stairs. He dashed to his safe as soon as he opened the door to his former room. He took a deep breath and inserted the pin. After unlocking the safe, he opened it.

Titus had always wanted to give her what she deserved after taking it the night she was bitten, but he did not have the chance. He smiled as he took the phone and handkerchief from his safe. He looked at the two objects in his hands. He stood up to his feet.

Selena would be overjoyed when she discovered that her phone was never lost and was actually with him the entire time. Titus was about to leave his room when something fell on the floor. It appeared to have fallen off the back of her phone.

He came to a halt while inspecting what appeared to be a thick piece of paper. He knelt to pick up the thick paper. Instead of a blank page, turning it over revealed a picture of Selena and a man. They seemed happy. The longer Titus looked at him, the more familiar his face became. He then noticed some writing at the bottom of the image. “Love you, Daddy?” Written boldly and small.

Titus’ jaw dropped as he quickly lost his balance. When he suddenly remembered who the man was, his heart started racing. The hunter he had killed, as he struggled to breathe, he clutched the paper tightly in his hands. He scowled and slammed the phone down on the table, releasing a low growl.

Was Selena’s father the hunter responsible for his parents’ deaths?

* * * *

Selena hummed softly as she washed her skin with rose-scented water. The memory of Titus kissing her a few hours before was difficult for her to forget. Selena chuckled softly as she stepped out of the water. She took her robe and left the bathroom.

The room was exactly as she left it. Titus had yet to return. Selena decided to search for him in her robe. They were unable to spend the night together on the night of her wedding, but they would do so now. She looked around the library and the office, but he was not there. If he had gone to get the item he had mentioned to her, it had to be in his old room.

She stood in front of the door, inhaled deeply, and knocked. “Titus. Are you there?” There was no answer. Selena knocked one more time. “Titus?” When she received no response, she gently opened the door with her hand on the doorknob. She peered in and noticed Titus sitting sadly on the chair. His mind was somewhere else.

Selena swung open the door and stepped inside. “Titus.” When she called this time, he looked at her as if he just woke up from a nightmare. “I waited for you, but you never came into the room. Are you ok?” When she approached him, he stopped her with a raised hand.

“Don’t come close at all.” Titus gave a warning. He still had that frown on his face, which perplexed Selena. They were both smiling at each other a few minutes ago, but now he was upset with her.

“Titus.” Selena feigned a smile. “It’s me. Your wife, Selena.”

Titus took a deep breath. Selena’s previous sense of happiness was no longer there. This time, everything was sad and gloomy. “Selena, I think you should go home.”

“Home? What exactly are you talking about? We planned to spend the night here together.” She approached him and put her hand on his, but he pushed her away. Selena couldn’t believe what had just occurred. “Titus,” she couldn’t even cry. He was transforming into a different person. “Titus.” She attempted to touch him again, but she paused. She sniffed and hid her trembling hands. She was holding back tears.
