CHAPTER 161 BETRAY THE PACK

Selena flipped the book open. “It says here we should drink.”

“Alright.” Trisha shifted her gaze to Dalett. “Hold it for me. I will raise the rat; you will feed it. Okay?”

“No way. Allow Jade or Selena to do that. You know how much I hate rats.”

“Dalett, get out of the way.” Jade spoke as she reached for the cup. She held it close to the rat’s mouth and carefully placed it into its mouth. “Is that sufficient?” She asked Trisha.

“I don’t know. Maybe you should feed it more.”

“It won’t even drink it because it’s dead.” Selena said.

“It can taste water. Selena, the water is making its way to its mouth. That means something.” Trisha placed the rat back in the box.

“It didn’t work?” Dalett stated.

“I suppose not,” Jade responded. “This is a complete mess. We just slaughtered an innocent rat without reason.” Jade went over to her bed and sat down. “It didn’t work. This is completely useless. Selena, what should we do now? Tell mum that we know about your role.”

“We cannot do that. Not yet. My life is even at risk right now. If they find out who I am, I’m as good as dead. I don’t trust my mother, Jade, so we’ll have to keep this a secret for the time being.”

“It’s just that I despise it, Selena. I just wanted to have a normal life. A normal family. Not the ones who kill creatures that don’t even haunt them.”

“We share your sentiments, Jade.” Dalett replied. “This morning, on my way to dinner, I couldn’t be as open with my parents as I used to be. The more I looked at them, the more irritated I got. I wanted to ask a lot of questions, but I couldn’t.”

“Same here.” Trisha came up to them. “I was angry on my way to church because how could they go to church after killing so many creatures? Those creatures weren’t asked to be like that, you know?” Trisha sat next to Selena while they all hugged.

“Did you hear what I heard?” Jade blinked open her eyes.

“Hear what?” Trisha asked.

“The squeak.” She took a step away from them, her gaze drawn to the box. “Selena. Guys. The rat is moving.” Jade rose to her feet. When they noticed the rat jumping around in the box, they all gasped.

“OMG. It worked.” Trisha screamed.

“It’s alive.” Dalett dashed towards the box. “You’re alive.”

“I still cannot believe it.” Selena said. She began laughing. “Guys, it worked. It really worked.” Their celebration came to an end when they heard a knock on the door.

“Selena.” They could hear Hania’s voice. Selena told the girls to keep the rat, book, and everything else used in the experiments. She approached and unlocked the door.

“Hania,” Selena said, smiling.

“Why is your room’s door locked?” Hania entered when Selena cleared the way for her. “Jade is also present. I had no idea you were such close friends now.”

“What is it, Hania?”

“Mom called; I don’t think she would be staying in Mexico for a month.”

“What exactly do you mean?” Selena asked.

“Selena, she will be back in two days.”

When the electric rod was used on Alexander, his voice could be heard in a high shout. “Tell me where Alpha is.” Ferdinand groaned angrily.

Alexander began laughing. “Believe me; no matter how much you torture me, you will never get a word out of me. As much as I want the Alpha dead, I will not endanger the pack’s life.”

“He’s not ready to give in!” Ferdinand activated the electronic rod once more and applied it on him. Alexander wailed in agony.

“You’re going to kill him, Papa.” Patricia said. “If you kill him, we will be unable to locate the Alpha or the pack.”

“Do you have any better idea of getting the words out of him?” Ferdinand spoke as he set down the rod on the table. “Do you or you don’t?”

Patricia let out a smirk. “Let me speak with him, Father. Alone.”

“Do what needs to be done.” Ferdinand replied. She shifted her focus away from Ferdinand and towards Alexander. Patricia tightened and lifted Alexander’s jaw with her hand. “Beta, I will make it simple for you. Will you be willing to give your life for the Alpha and his pack?”

“No matter what you do, I will not show you the pack house. Even if I did, no human could get there because it is magically sealed.”

“Well then you will take us there. Don’t you think so?”

“Ah! Patricia, you make me laugh. This is why I like you so much.”

“You won’t give in, will you?”

Alexander shakes his head. “You can’t make me.”

Patricia began laughing maniacally. “What are you thinking?” She leaned in and seductively bit her lower lip. “I can make you do whatever I want, as long as I have your precious sister with me.” Alexander’s eyes widened. “Don’t worry, I won’t kill her. I will just use her to get what I want.”

“Don’t!” Alexander became enraged.

“It’s of no use. You won’t be able to mindlink her either because you’re blocked. It looks like your sister will have to betray your pack to save you.” Patricia chuckled as she walked away.

“Don’t! Don’t! Nooooooooooooo!” Alexander’s yelling increased as the cave’s gate closed.

Selena’s towel fell to the floor as she opened her closet door. She was happy with the results of the red water. She had no idea such a thing was possible in this world. A healing water. A reviving water. She chuckled quietly and shook her head. Selena reached for the pink sweatshirt staring back at her. She took the cloth off the hanger and examined herself in the mirror. She was not going anywhere, but she wanted to look good. Perhaps Jade and her friends could go to the ice cream shop later for some ice cream.

Selena sighed, remembering what Hania had told her the day before. Isabel will come back tomorrow. How would she live as a werewolf if her mother was present? She groaned quietly as she turned around. Selena’s heart nearly dropped out of her chest when she realized who she had seen. “You terrified me.”

She took a breather.

“Hi, wifey.” Titus smiled at seeing her naked body. “You look great.”

Selena knelt to get her towel from the ground. She wrapped it around her chest. “How long have you stood there staring at me?” She came closer to him.

“Not long at all. Just don’t assume that the pink sweatshirt is to your taste.” He crept into her room, bringing her closer to him. He pressed his lips to hers.

Selena let go, locking her gaze on his. “What are you doing here?” She offered a gentle smile. “I miss you." But there was no way of seeing you.”

“Well, you no longer have to miss me because I am here to take you with me.”

Selena was bewildered. "Will you take me with you?”

“Come home, Selena. I have come to take you home.” He tucked the hair that clung to her face behind her ears. He could now see her face with clearness. “Everything’s been settled. Uncle Theodore’s funeral took place this morning.”

“Oh. I was thinking about it. Estry hasn’t spoken to me since that day. I would like to spend some time with you, too, but my mother will return tomorrow.”

Titus studied her eyes. “Didn’t you say she would be away for a month?”
