CHAPTER 162: FAMILIAR

CHAPTER 162: FAMILIAR
~MIRA’S POV~

I was eating slowly. I shoved a spoonful of the oatmeal into my mouth without looking away from the laptop. Grey nudged me with his elbow and my eyes flew to him.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I had been unusually quiet since his mother left the room. He was glad his mother showed up to apologise because he couldn’t handle the tension between them. I dragged the breakfast tray to the centre of the bed.

Tucked between his legs, he couldn’t see my face fully. “What is it?”

“What is what?” He quirked a brow and I let out a laugh that seemed too forced.

“Just enjoying the movie.” The movie he could have sworn I wasn’t paying attention to.

He let this slide.

I finally finished my breakfast and he pulled away so he could be facing me. “Do you have any idea who the guest might be?”

“No.”

The guest might be one of his mother’s friends as she would be eager to show her son off and announce his arrival.

“Are you worried about it? If you are, we can stay here for…”

“No.” I shook my head, then spoke again slowly. “I don’t think we should miss lunch with your family.”

Since my head was cast down, Grey couldn’t tell if I meant that so all he did was nod. His family was my family and vice-versa, no distinction. Putting the tray down, he hugged me and I relaxed against his body.

~GREY’S POV~

We continued the movie together and soon, she was completely relaxed. She fell asleep in my arms. For fear of waking her, I let her stay there even when my arms protested the weight.

Someone knocked and I ushered them in. It was the maid. “Lunch will be ready in thirty minutes, sir,” she told me. Pointing at the tray she lowered to the floor a while ago.

“Sure. Thanks.”

The maid was gone when Mira stirred. I pulled my arms from under her and laid her on the bed gently so I could cuddle her. I was still waiting for that phone call and I couldn’t tell her about it till I received the confirmation.

Propping an elbow on the pillow, I watched my wife sleep. She was beautiful and was mine.

She rubbed the back of my palm and I realised she was awake. She rolled away from me.

“A penny for you thoughts?” she asked, fingers playing around his jaw. “What are you thinking about?”

“You.”

“Me? What about me?”

“Everything. Nothing. About how cute you are.”

She ducked her face when my lips came down. I chuckled and grabbed her hands before placing a kiss on her lips. “Lunch will be ready in thirty minutes.”

Watching her face closely for any reaction, I didn’t miss the slight intake of her breath. She smoothed the front of my top. “Right. Lunch. I should go get ready then. You too. Your mother asked us to look lovely.”

She was out of the bed before I said another word. We got ready in silence. I gulped when she took off her gown to change into a new one. I had seen my wife naked plenty of times but she still managed to arouse me. Closing the gap, I tugged on the waistband of her panties. She looked up, confusion brewing in her eyes.

“Take this off,” I ordered.

“Grey.”

“Please.”

On a defeated sigh, she discarded it. I blessed her with a grin and returned to buttoning my shirt. She finished dressing before me. Her hands shook as she helped me with the button on my sleeves.

Patting my chest, she said, “All done.”

Nervousness rolled off her in huge waves that worried me. My mother wasn’t that bad. Circling her wrists, I placed a kiss on the inside of her palms. “Baby, it’s just lunch. If you feel uncomfortable, just let me know and we will be excused. But my mum doesn’t bite, try to relax.”

“I guess so. I’ll try.” That emotion flashed across her eyes.

I couldn’t tell if it was uncertainty or fear. I pulled her in for a hug and her arms came around me. She was not happy and I didn’t like it. This visit wasn’t going half as good as I expected. I expected bonding between both females. Mira tapped me to release her.

“Alright, I think I’m ready, baby. Let’s go.”

I didn’t let go of her hand as we stepped out. She was dressed in a blue fitted gown with a long slit in front. Her hair was still curly so she hadn’t done much to it but she had applied a bit of makeup. I wouldn’t have cared if she was dressed up, I was most excited about the access provided to her body by the front slit. I guided her down the stairs to our dining hall.

The table had already been set. China wares that sparkled from thorough cleaning. A bucket of champagne and sealed plates were on the table. We were the first one to arrive. I pulled out a chair for my wife and took the one closest to her. Mira fumbled with the tablecloth, folding and unfolding it till I pried it from her.

“Baby, relax.”

“I’m relaxed,” she countered.

“You’re not,” I said gently. “Look at me.” Mira obeyed and I placed her hands on my chest. “I’m here for you and I love you, my sunflower.”

“I know.”

The sound of footsteps stopped me from saying more to my wife. I took her hand under the table and waited for the other members of the house to show up. My youngest sister came out first. Angel stopped behind a chair, nose scrunched as if seeing me for the first time.

“Hey, sis,” I said.

And the spell holding her broke. Angel flung herself into my arms, nearly pushing me off the chair. We both laughed as we separated. She sat on my lap like the baby of the house she was.

“This is your wife, right?” Angel asked before I could do the formal introduction.

I gave a curt nod and she jumped off my laps to hug Mira. “You’re so pretty.”

“Thanks,” Mira replied. “You’re also pretty. I’m Mira.”

“Oh, stop it,” Angel retorted.

Mira threw me a look and I shrugged. She and Angel would get along well. I could feel it.

“I know your name, sis. I know so much about you because Grey won’t stop running his mouth.”

“Hey, I was not running my mouth.”

“Whatever.” Angel took the chair beside Mira. “I’m Angel Anderson, in case this big head didn’t tell you all about his lovely babysister.”

I rolled my eyes in faux anger, grateful for her presence. Mira’s smile was doing things to my heart. I owed my sister a gift, maybe I would get her that Lamborghini she had been talking so much about.

“I’m the baby of the house. You are expected to treat me with care, okay?”

“Okay,” Mira agreed with a laugh and I couldn’t help smiling. “I didn’t see you yesterday.”

“Yeah. Had a shoot.”

“What do you do?”

I tuned them out as they familiarised with each other. I palmed Mira’s knee to remind her of my presence and also calm myself. My pretty heavenly flower had a cast a spell on me and I couldn’t go for long without touching her.

The vibration from my phone alerted me to the glaring pop-up email. Typing with one hand was a bit difficult but I managed it. The long awaited text had come in. I was happy. Today was perfect. Mira would love this. I peeked at my time. My mother was late but I couldn’t be bothered. Mira and Angel were doing fine.

“I never thought the workaholic would get married first, you know?” I heard Angel tell my wife.

My head snapped up. I didn’t need a sage to know they were talking about me. I slipped my phone into my pocket and Angel continued, “He never dated anyone. He was always so busy to even talk to girls or go out.”

“Shut up, Angel. Dating isn’t compulsory.”

My sister shrieked with laughter. This was one of the reasons I preferred talking to Mimi about sensitive issues. She knew how to keep a secret. Angel didn’t. Once Angel knew, the whole house automatically did. Seeking comfort from my wife, I snuck an arm around her waist.

Mira wiggled her brows. This was what I meant. We didn’t date but they were in love. “Don’t listen to her. I didn’t have time to go out because I was waiting for the love of my life. You.”

Angel clapped. “Aw. That’s so sweet.”

Sensing my irritation, my wife kissed me. Angel caught my eyes and I blushed. I braced a hand on the table. My family didn’t get to see this side of me often.

Mira cupped my face and told me in a whisper, “You are the love of my life too, Grey. And I really like your baby sister.”

Angel hugged my wife from behind. “I like you too.”

“Is mum coming or what?” I asked a while later when we were all settled.

“Oh, she is. She went to get the ‘guest’ joining us,” my sister replied.

My brows drew together. Something about her reply made me wary. Mira laced out fingers and my lips twitched.

“Do you know who?”

Angel never answered. There was a voice, followed by another strangely familiar one. My mum walked to the table, looking regale and unapologetic in her formal outfit.

“I’m sorry we are late.”

“We?” I asked in a whisper.

“Yes, Grey We.” Turning to someone behind her, my mother stretched her hand.

“Come here, darling.” The figure came into view and I understood why she had sounded so familiar.

I spared Mira a glance and I wished I hadn’t. Lunch was about to be an uncomfortable affair.
