Chapter 161: MADE UP.
~MIRA’S POV~
The next day, I woke up famished. I barely ate dinner last night because of my mood and I wasn’t looking forward to having breakfast with the whole family. Grey seemed to be the only nice person here.
A hand snuck into my gown. I peered at my husband and stretched up to capture his lips in a kiss.
“Good morning, baby.”
“Morning, my love,” he replied. His fingers wove into my hair, stroking my scalp sensually to elicit a small moan from me. “What were you thinking?”
“Nothing. Just hungry.”
Light cracked in through the curtains. I rolled onto my back and placed a hand over my eyes. If we were at home, I wouldn’t need to rush to get out of bed except for work. But now, I forced myself to move. My mother-in-law didn’t need another reason to hate me.
Grey’s worried eyes followed my
movement. I fast walked to the bathroom and cleaned up, only to return to the room to see him in the same position I left him. His legs were hidden under the covers, he shifted and the cover rolled down to his knees, showing off the bulge straining against his shorts.
My cheeks flushed. But I managed to maintain the distance between us. I clutched the hem of my gown, avoiding my husband’s gaze. The idea of having sex at my in-laws house wasn’t so appealing.
“We will be late for breakfast,” I told him.
He shot to his feet, stalking slowly towards me like a hunter appraising its prey. I backed away from him till my legs hit the dresser. He pried my hands from the gown. I tugged on the rope and the gown loosened. I gulped. The pad of his thumb traced my lips, my jaw and I sucked in a small breath.
“I think we should eat in the room this morning.”
His words pleased me more than I cared to admit but I kept a straight face. “Why? Is that okay?”
“It’s more than okay, Mira.” he grabbed my hand and covered his bulge. “But this… this isn’t okay.” I gulped again.
He was making it so hard to resist him. His nail trailed the path between my breasts, my nipples peaked and he rolled one between his fingers. His hot, fiery gaze latched onto mine nd my body pulsed as he returned me hand over his erection.
“Leaving your husband like this isn’t okay, baby.”
Playing along, I replied, “What can I do?”
His hands lowered to each side of my head. His chest flushed against mine and he whispered, “Whatever you like.”
I blushed to the roots. My hand slipped into his shorts to cup my husband’s manhood. I didn’t get on my knees. Instead, I worked with my hands, eyes locked on his as I pumped him into an orgasm. His seed spilled into my palm and his shorts.
Grey struggled to maintain eye contact, my lips parted just enough to let out a moan. I finished it by licking my fingers clean. K
Grey cursed and I placed a chaste kiss on his lips. “You should clean up, baby,” I whispered into his ear. With a finger, I pushed him back. “Love you.”
He was still too stunned to move as I sashayed to the bed to wait for him. My cheeks were warm with embarrassment and excitement. He made me do crazy things, explore parts of myself I didn’t know existed. My husband finally snapped out of it and offered me a smile. He loved me as I was.
When he was gone into the bathroom, I arranged the place and sent Lisa a text to know I was fine. My best friend thought my mother-in-law was nice to me and I intended to keep it that way.
Grey met me in front of the dresser curling my hair. I set the hair stretcher on the table after I was done and looked to him to hear his opinion. His fingers ran through my hair and a ghost of a smile crossed his lips.
“Looks good,” he commented.
Our eyes connected in the mirror. “Thank
you, baby.”
His hands descended on my shoulders and he gave them a small squeeze. “I’m not sure breakfast will be ready by now. But I’ll go check.”
My husband sauntered to the wardrobe and came out with his laptop bag. I hid a smile. This man could never get a full break from work. It was his price to pay for being a young CEO. He knelt beside me and set the laptop on the surface. Netflixx homepage was on the screen.
“Will you be okay on your own for a bit? You can watch any of these shows while waiting.”
I took his hand. “I think your mum would mind if we stayed here to eat.” I looked down at his black shorts. He was fond of wearing shorts in the house. A finger followed the lines on Grey’s palm. “I think we should join the family forbreakfast. It feels right.”
“What will feel right is her apology to you.” Tilting my face, his lips brushed mine. His grey eyes told me to trust him on this. “I already told her. If she doesn’t apologise to you, we won’t eat with the family. I love my mum and I love you. She needs to accept that.”
“Yeah,” I mumbled.
This trip wasn’t turning out the way I wanted. I only agreed to this visit because I assumed it would give me a shot to change Grey’s mother’s perspective of me, so my mother-in-law would see I loved her son for who he was, not his wealth. But the woman wouldn’t even give me the opportunity.
I kissed Grey again because he was staring at me too long. I wasn’t ready to share my thoughts with him.
“I’ll have the maid bring up our breakfast, okay?”
“Alright, baby.” I hugged him before he left and he blew me a kiss.
Alone in the room and unwilling to dwell on my thoughts, I focused on the movie playing on Grey’s screen. The door opened a second later and my heart skipped. He didn’t stay long but I missed him. Without looking up from the laptop, I murmured, “Baby, that was fast. I missed you.”
“Baby? Does Grey look like a child to you.”
I jumped to my feet. “No, ma. I’m sorry ma.” I didn’t know what I was sorry for.
This woman made me nervous. I hid my hands behind me. My smile died when I met my mother-in-law’s gaze.
“We call each other that, ma. It’s a pet name for both of us.”
“I see.”
I was certain she didn’t see anything. My mother-in-law stepped inside and shut the door behind her. My pulse quickened I might trust Grey but I didn’t trust his mother.
“Mira, right?”
“Yes, ma.”
“What time do they have breakfast where you come from?” The question was suspicious so I delayed answering. “Speak, Mira. Look at the time and reply me.”
On cue, my eyes followed my mother-in-law’s gaze to the clock above the dresser. 8:45 am. What? I didn’t know. Mrs Anderson eyed me from top to bottom and I shrivelled inside.
“It’s… it’s almost 9 am, ma,” I replied.
“Are you trying to starve my son?”
“Ma?”
“Don’t ma me, child.” I quickly nodded. I felt small, like someone who didn’t matter standing in front of this imposing woman. “What are you doing here instead of getting food for your husband to eat?”
“I thought… I thought Grey went down to get the…”
The statement died in my throat at Mrs Anderson glare. My palms were sweaty, same as my underarms. I took an involuntary step back when my mother-in-law stepped forward. I couldn’t say for sure that I would not strike back if she hit me..
“Is that so?”
“Yes. Grey said the maid would bring our food to the room.”
“Maids?” To that, I didn’t answer. Every word that came out from Mrs Anderson’s mouth could be used against me.“Did you have maids growing up, Mira?”
“No, ma.”
“Then why are you expecting them to bring up your food? Don’t you have hands and legs, Mira? Are you better than them in any way?”
“I didn’t say that,” I yelled. My breath came out in harsh pants. I pictured Grey’s face and was able to calm down. “I know you don’t like me but you don’t have to be rude or say these unnecessary things. I love Grey and he loves me. If you cared about him one bit, you’ll try to get along with me. I’m just asking that you be nice to me for the period we will be here.”
“Gold-digger,” the woman said instead.
I wiped the silly tears that dropped to my cheeks. I could not let this woman get to me. Good thing her son wasn’t like her.
“I see through your lies and acting.”
Chin jutted in determination, I replied, “If you think this is acting, then that’s cool. I have nothing to prove to you. Your son loves me for who I am and if it wasn’t for me, this ‘gold-digger’ you hate so much, we wouldn’t be in this place right now. And if I tell him I want us to leave, we will leave immediately.” Shock and other emotions danced across Mrs Anderson’s face. It lent me strength to continue. “You know why? Because my happiness matters to him. If his happiness mattered to you at all, you would try. You wouldn’t be so hell-bent on making me miserable.”
“You conniving bit..”
The door opened, cutting off my mother-in-law. Grey walked in with a tray, his eyes landed on me and I tried to smile. I didn’t want to worry him. Anderson’s expression changed, she carried the tray from Grey before I could do it and lowered it on the nightstand.
“Son,” his mother whined. “I came here to apologise to my daughter-in-law. I might have been rude earlier but I’m asking you to forgive me.”
I gulped. Why was she directing the apology to Grey, instead of me. As if he was thinking the same thing, Grey led his mother by the hand to stand in front of me. She touched my cheek with a smile only Grey believed. This woman was a professional actress.
“Do you accept my apology? I’ll try to do better, okay?”
“Okay, ma,” I croaked out.
Mrs Anderson clapped. “Good. I’ll be seeing both of you in the dining room for lunch. Look lovely, we will be having a guest.” She pinched Grey’s cheeks, my lips turned down in a real smile. I hugged myself. “Your sister will be coming home today. I’m so happy.”
“Me too,” Grey replied.
His mother left the room and Grey spinned me in a circle. He kissed my nose. “I’m so glad you two are finally getting along. I can’t have two of my most favourite women fighting with each other.”
My responding smile was so fake but Grey didn’t notice. “Yeah. Your mum is a real sweetheart under all that tough exterior.”
