Chapter 284 CHAPTER 284
Chapter 284 CHAPTER 284
I blinked slowly, my eyes opening gradually.
It was night time and I was moving.
No, being moved.
My eyes snapped open, alert and terrified.
I should be wet or getting tossed around by that storm I'd fallen into but..
"Zorath?" I realized, sitting up properly on my dragon's back.
"Hey Troublemaker," he answered and I could feel him smiling kindly, "glad to have you back."
"What happened?"
"Orealeus smelled your emotions. So we came after you and then you walking on air one second, cool as fuck by the way, and then you plummeted into the deep abyss."
"I didn't know I could fish before today," Orealeus chuckled and I couldn't smiling.
"You guys are the best," I sighed in relief.
"And we're proud of you. Standing up to Draktar like that reminded me of why we came up from the belly of the volcano."
Zorath's words dug deep into my heart and fed me warmth and I was happy they were on my side.
"So, where are we headed to?" I asked, not recognising the environment.
There was still a less volatile river by the far left, but we were flying over a desert now and I wondered how both extremities could exist on both sides.
"We're heading to the Ward over the great Wall. Wasn't that where you were going to?"
"Wait, how did you guys know?"
"Your mind is quite open when you're passed out, Troublemaker," Orealeus replied, twirling around in the sky, flying at the same speed as Zorath.
"And you guys are okay with it? With me going to attack them alone?"
"What do you mean alone? We're coming with you," Zorath said, and I grinned.
"Best dragons ever!"
That seemed to push him and soon, everything blurred past us as we traveled to the end of Drakkonia.
Hopefully I hadn't misunderstood my mother.
Else, this is a suicide mission.
As we flew, I experimented with the power in my body, not physically fighting, but checking possibilities.
Knowing which elements were easier to manipulate.
And planning what to do with my dragons.
From what I saw in the Volcano, it was easier to get a picture of what I was about to face, and how.
The book was useless here, all it wants is for the battle to happen on their turf not on ours, so I depended on the power now to get out alive.
There was a sudden break in the desert, filled with fruits, vegetables and animals running around freely and they stopped for me to get something to eat.
I roasted a squirrel like animal but bigger and ate it. It was surprisingly sweet and I finished off with some fruits while my dragons consumed large animals that I didn't even get a chance to know what they were.
Just woomp, swallowed.
I climbed back and we headed forward again, and I realized that although I'd not been aware of the hunger, it had been holding me back a lot.
"How long was I in the dungeon, Zorath?"
"Ten days. I'll never forgive Solvarion," he grunted the last part.
"Eh. I kinda pity him. He can't hurt his rider, can he?"
"He didn't establish his authority at the beginning, and now that little rat is ordering him around. He's the Dragon King for fuck's sake! He has no right to be weak or passive!"
I've never felt their anger in this magnitude before neither did I know what to even say.
The sun was slowly rising, one before the other as my eyes lifted and saw the ward.
It rose all the way into the sky and it was anchored between two mountains that were more like a fence.
From up here, I could see how nature made things difficult for the Faes.
Even if they climb the mountains, I doubt the fire spilling from it would let them cross.
The ward however, groaned with intense power, something old and sacred.
Like it was built on the blood of many.
I'll never understand this war, because time buries facts and the longer the war has gone on, the higher the stacks of grievances.
But the Fae have refused to stay on their own side and make something out of it.
They don't treat their Dragons like the powerful beasts of blessings they are and that's why their lands are hungry, their people are starving and their King, cruel.
If allowed, they'll come to Drakkonia and render it equally barren and keep spilling into the rest of this world.
The fates have enough conscience to want this to end so I have to push morality aside and become this cruel person that unleashes death on people who are already suffering.
I wish there was a way to separate those in power from everyone else, but the second I step into this realm, it's either they kill me or I pour this chaos on them.
There's no in between.
"We're here," Zorath informed me as he began flying down towards the chaotic battle happening on the ground and in the air.
The Fae, from the other side were doing everything to get in, as though they hate their lives so much they don't care dying for a chance to get in here.
They attacked in a large number, trying to overwhelm our soldiers.
The ward doesn't stop them from entering but I could see how weak it made them.
The ward was getting tired too.
I watched as they clashed against them, some using swords and others, raw, elemental power.
It was impressive, but many were dying from both sides.
Many didn't notice me and my dragons coming, they were fighting hard for their lives.
So I had to stand on my dragon and call their attention.
"Drakkonian soldiers, I'm Alira and I have come to help. Please step back from the ward."
My voice was heard, I know that, but only a few turned to look at me and immediately went back to fighting.
I know, I look crazy, I've been wearing these same leather pants and a tight leather top with a mesh cutout in the center and dragon scales drawn on the side. It was sleeveless and when I'd worn it, with the coat to match, it was beautiful and badass at the same time.
Now, after days freezing in the dungeons and being doused in the deep sea, I don't look anything like the girl that's supposed to save the day.
But I wasn't here for optics, they were losing men and their stubbornness will get us nowhere.
We're better than the Fae who sacrifice their soldiers for nothing, so I decided to show them.
"Zorath, take me back up."
My dragon obeyed, rising into the air with grace.
Some of the sick soldiers behind watched me with wary eyes but too tired to do anything about.
I reached for the darkness first, I needed it to serve as a warning, and I poured it on the other side of the veil.
Then from the depth of my soul, I opened my hands, and my dragons opened their mouths and we rained down fire and volcanic liquid.
I watched in relish as Dragon kin separated from Fae in seconds.
Now, I can get my job done without looking back.
