Chapter 283 CHAPTER 283

Chapter 283 CHAPTER 283
My hands felt like they were on fire as I woke up. I could tell it was the next morning because of the routine of my life these past five months. But I knew that if I stayed here longer, it would get messed up.

The part I hated most was that I couldn't speak to my dragons and the book wasn't even coming up in my head.

I didn't know this rope was as powerful as I'm discovering now, I would have fought harder to run away.

But then, to where?

The last time I did, he let go a bit because of the attack and how everyone attested to me saving the day.

But now, except I'll be going into that battleground alone, there's nothing running away will achieve.

I'll be tagged a traitor and killed just like my father, without any ceremonial flight.

And I had my men to think about, I'd already abandoned them before, I couldn't do that again, permanently.

At least when it's in my power.

But then, I'm here now, a prisoner with no idea how to escape, and if they go to that battle without me, who knows if it's just one of my men that will die?

They'll all be at the forefront. What if I lose them all?

Hoping the King would forgive and allow me to fight behind him like he'd wanted to before was pointless.

I'd gone too far.

I don't feel bad about that, he should never have tricked me, but the consequences are regrettable.

Time passed at a snail's pace while I dug around in my head, thinking of what to do.

The dungeon was getting colder and colder and for some reason, it was affecting me more than it should.

I guess fire and frost can't exactly coexist, especially since my fire was caged.

My eyes went to the ropes tying my hands and I sighed.

Even if I get out of them which seems so impossible the more I look at it, what next?

Run?
To where?
It'll be selfish to go back to the Academy and disrupt training.

So I just.. caved.

Slowly, days passed, until I couldn't count them anymore.

I jumped awake all of a sudden and I realised there were noises coming from the passageway of the dungeon.

The King hadn't done much but repair the walls I'd broken out of the last time, but everything else remained the same.

I gasped when I saw my mum step in front of the cell I was kept in.

"Mum?" I whispered, rushing towards her.

"He has refused to let you go," she murmured, "but you must do it."

I frowned, "Do what?"

"The Crescent moon is next tomorrow. That's what the book says. They don't know that and they would have if they'd let you lead the battle like it was written," she hissed the last part out angrily.

"Mum I don't know what you're talking about!"

She took a deep breath and looked at me, "My darling, I don't have much time here. He doesn't know I'm here but he will soon and I need to be far away from here before that or I'm joining your father tonight."

"Don't say that!" I snapped, "I'm done losing people, you hear me?!"

She nodded, reaching to touch my hand.

"Just do it, Alira. You're the power. Not them. You."

"I don't.. understand Mum."

"Tomorrow night. I love you so much, Alira. Don't ever forget that," she said, and kissed my hand.

And she was gone.

If not for the scent of her rosy perfume stuck in my nose, I'd have thought I'd dreamed the whole thing up.

But she was here and she wasn't making any sense to me.

Ugh, why can't anything be easy around here?

Her words roamed around in my hand as I played with the rope, for hours on end.

Do it alone.
I'm the power, I am the one to lead them to victory.

But what if I can't lead them?

What if I'm meant to.. oh shit.

Did my mother just ask me to sacrifice my life for Drakkonia?

The ropes finally came off, my human-like teeth were sharp enough to dig into every bit of the rope jnt it was weak enough for me to tear it.

Power roared in my veins, demanding blood, retribution, vengeance.

But that's not me.

I'm the power but the power isn't me.

To escape, I must be discreet and keep everyone shut out until I make it out of here.

Because my dragons are connected to Solvarion and me, and if the Dragon King knows, the chance of his rider finding out is very high.

Sometimes I wonder if he wishes he could just kill his rider but it's probably not worth the pain.

So I willed the doors open and although already stale, I followed my mother's scent and I found another set of stairs.

Old, wooden and rickety, built into the walls of the old Palace.

I slowly climbed until I was spat out at a balcony overlooking a waterfall.

Now, I either call my dragons and risk getting caught or jump in here.

No Alira, remember you can manipulate the wind.

But for how long?

I couldn't see the end of the large sea it was rushing into because of how violent the whole thing was.

Plus all the rocks and uneven cliffs around mean that I might have to do this for a long.

Well, let's see how long this power will last, after all, I'm about to go against an entire realm, all by myself.

I wish I could just go find my mother and make her explain what she meant properly, but I can already feel the Palace rising.

Soon, they'll all be aware of my absence and come chasing. I can't outfly a dragon and I'm not even flying.

I stepped into nothing, and let the power push me forward, I was walking on thin air, my heart beating rapidly in my ribcage.

And here I was, thinking I was no longer scared of heights.

But I was, am, the waterfall below was rough and it didn't even out for a bit and I can swim, but to where?
There's only so much one can learn about this place and I don't know what sea this is or where it leads to.

But I kept walking, counting my steps to stop myself from overthinking.

Soon, I began feeling that fatigue that has nothing to do with your muscles.

It's soul deep and nothing around me could prevent the impending doom headed towards me.

I looked down at the violence underneath me, and realised I was slowly descending towards it.

My eyes fluttered and for a second, I wished to just go back to Earth and move to a different country and start life afresh again.

But that didn't happen.

Instead, gravity opened it's maws wide as though I'd not let it breathe in a while, and inhaled me towards the roaring waves.
