Chapter 30 Mistaken Identity

Aria said, "How did you end up drinking like this? Did you have another social event? I told you not to drink so much, and it's bad for your health, but you just wouldn't listen. I really don't know what to do with you."

Although these were words of reproach, there was no hint of blame in the tone, instead, it carried a touch of sweetness.

I tightly gripped my phone, my body trembling uncontrollably.

A thought arose in my mind: could it be that the "honey" Henry just called wasn't me but Aria?

Perhaps eager to find an answer, I didn't hang up the phone.

What Henry just said were things we used to do, so he shouldn't be talking about Aria, right?

Aria giggled, "You're hugging me again. Ever since I moved in, you come back drunk every day and hug me, calling me honey. But I'm not your wife; we haven't even gotten married yet."

Henry said lazily, "You are my wife. You have the scent of my wife, so fragrant. Honey, you're finally back. Please don't leave me again, okay?"

Aria chuckled, "Okay, I won't leave you."

Honey muttered, "Honey, you're the best."

Listening to Henry and Aria's conversation on the other end of the phone, my heart felt like it was being crushed by a boulder, so heavy that I couldn't breathe.

It turned out those affectionate calls, those bits, and pieces of memories, had now become the tenderness he gave to another woman.

A bitter smile appeared on my lips. The persistence and struggle over the years seemed so ridiculous at this moment.

"Honey, I want to drink the soup you made." Henry was whining to Aria.

The tone of his whining was exactly the same as when he used to whine to me.

Was Henry now lying in Aria's arms, whining with his hands around her waist, just like he did with me back then?

At that time, I was obsessed with romance novels.

I smiled and asked Henry if he would mistake someone for me when he got drunk, just like in the novels. But Henry looked into my eyes very seriously and said he would never mistake anyone for me in this lifetime.

Now, he directly replaced me with someone else.

My heart sank bit by bit, and the little warmth that had just risen disappeared completely.

Aria kissed Henry. "Okay, I'll make soup for you now. Wait here obediently, okay?"

Henry said, "Okay."

Aria should have left; I couldn't hear her voice anymore. Only then did I speak, "Henry, it's over between us. Don't call me again. Let's set a time to get divorced."

I struggled to squeeze out these words, my voice trembling.

After saying that, I hung up directly. The phone felt like a hot potato, burning my hand and scorching my heart.

The moment I hung up, I seemed to hear the sound of my heart breaking. Tears broke through again, blurring my vision.

Oliver in my arms seemed to sense my sadness too, gently licking the back of my hand with his warm little tongue, as if trying to comfort me in this way.

I hugged Oliver tightly, burying my face in his soft fur, letting the tears flow freely.

In the dead of night, the moonlight outside the window seemed particularly cold. I shivered, curling up under the blanket, but still felt cold.

The next morning, I was startled by my own appearance. My eyes were swollen, my face haggard, as if I had aged several years overnight.

I touched my face, forcing a smile, but it didn't look good at all, even a bit ugly.

Today, I had to go to the company to meet with people from the Sullivan Group. I couldn't meet them looking like this.

I found the face mask Elara gave me and put one on, feeling much better.

Elara came to pick me up, bringing breakfast made by her mom.

Seeing my face, Elara was shocked. "Ms. Martinez, how did you become so haggard in just one day?"

I asked, "Am I that haggard? I just put on a face mask, feeling much better."

Elara pursed her lips and nodded seriously. "Good thing I brought makeup. Ms. Martinez, let me do your makeup."

Elara was eager to try, and I didn't refuse.

Elara said a bit proudly, "I often did makeup for my roommates in the dorm. Don't underestimate me. My makeup skills are good. I did their date makeup for them."
