Chapter 29 He Called Me Honey
I was stunned and looked up to meet Brian's smiling eyes.
I awkwardly looked away and gave a forced smile, "Really?"
Brian nodded seriously.
For some reason, I always felt that he was different from when I first met him.
Brian played with Oliver for a while before leaving.
Oliver watched his departing figure, then turned to me and meowed twice. I patted his head. "Can't bear to see him go?"
Oliver meowed twice, seeming really reluctant to see Brian go.I picked up Oliver, and he obediently lay in my arms, gently rubbing his little head against my chest. Stroking his soft fur, I felt a bit of comfort.
That night, while I was half-asleep, I received a call from Henry.
He seemed to have been drinking, and was quite drunk.
As soon as he spoke, he called me "honey."
On the other end of the line, his magnetic, husky voice touched my heart, and I almost instantly gripped my phone tightly.
I couldn't remember how long it had been since Henry last called me that. Three years? Maybe even longer.
Even before we got married, Henry hadn't called me "honey" for a long time.
He used to call me that when we had just started dating, during our sweet and passionate phase.
Back then, Henry would also drink because of social engagements. He would come home drunk, hugging me and burrowing into my arms with his alcohol-scented body.
He would hold me tightly, his cheek pressed against mine, rubbing against me like a little puppy, and mischievously blowing air into my neck.
Henry said, his voice languid and hoarse, "Honey, why are you ignoring me? Are you mad at me? Please don't be mad. I know I was wrong. I promise I won't make you angry again."
Listening to Henry's slightly childish apology on the other end of the line, my eyes couldn't help but well up with tears.
Over the years, the rift between us had grown deeper, and the sweetness of the past seemed out of reach.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep my voice calm. "Henry, you're drunk."
He seemed not to hear me and continued to murmur, "I'm not drunk. I just miss you, honey. I miss you every day. Where are you? Honey, when will you come back? I really miss you. Please come back; don't leave me."
My heart felt like it was being squeezed in a vice, and my tears flowed uncontrollably, like rain from a stormy sky.
I remembered that Henry hadn't drunk alcohol for a long time.
Since he became the head of the Phillips Group, everyone had been catering to him.
He no longer had to drink for social engagements like before.
Did he drink today because I mentioned divorce? Did he still care about me?
"Henry," I called him softly.
Henry responded hurriedly, "Honey, I'm here. Please come back. I want to hold you. When I used to get drunk, you would hold me in your arms, make me hangover soup, and feed me honey water."
"My stomach hurts so much now, like it's on fire. I don't know where the medicine is. Honey, please come back and get the medicine for me. I want to drink the soup you make."
"Don't you love the sandwiches from that place in the Gemstone District? If you come back tonight, I'll take you there tomorrow morning, okay?"
"And their meat pies, you always have to eat two, even though you can't finish them, but you love them so much. Every time you eat until you're full, you still don't want to stop."
The more Henry talked, the more my tears flowed.
"As long as you come back, I'll take you to eat whatever you want. I'll do whatever you want to do. If I make you unhappy, you can punish me, and I won't complain." Henry kept rambling on the other end of the line.
I listened quietly, my heart gradually softening.
Just as I was about to agree, I heard Aria's voice. "Henry."
