Chapter 28 Staying in the Police Station

Henry's words were left unfinished, but the threat in his tone was unmistakable.

Perhaps she couldn't stand our closeness, Aria glared at me angrily and leaned on Henry's shoulder. "Henry, I feel so dizzy; let's go."

Henry let go of my hand and turned to ask the police, "Where do I pay?"

The police replied, "Turn left when you exit."

Henry took Aria and left.

A policeman glanced at me and stopped Henry. "Aren't you going to bail out your wife?"

Henry sneered, "Let her stay here for a few days to cool off."

Now everyone looked at me with even more sympathy. Maybe they had never seen a woman as miserable as me.

I stroked Oliver's body repeatedly, feeling empty inside.

Henry's behavior was getting worse each time; what was there for me to hope for? Should I expect him to turn over a new leaf? Or hope that he still had a shred of pity and love for me?

I laughed mockingly and hugged Oliver tightly, as if that could give me a bit of comfort.

A young policewoman walked up to me, pursing her lips. "Ms. Martinez, I'm sorry, but we have to follow the procedure. If no one bails you out, we can't let you go for now. Maybe you can contact your friends again?"

I nodded lightly, knowing she wanted to help but was truly powerless.

The policewoman suggested, "If you're unhappy in your marriage, why not get a divorce? Everyone has the right to divorce. The marriage law guarantees the freedom of divorce, and since your husband cheated first, you are the victim."

I responded softly, "Thank you."

I took out my phone, Nova hadn't replied yet; the surgery must not be over. I decided to try calling Brian.

When he answered, he asked what had happened.

I clutched the phone and asked tentatively, "I'm at the police station; can you come and get me?"

"Okay." Brian didn't ask why; he just agreed, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Brian arrived quickly, paid the bail, and I followed him out of the police station. I took out my phone to transfer the money to him.

Brian refused, "I promised Dr. Ramirez to take care of you. I'm sorry I didn't get here sooner today."

Brian looked down at me, his thin lips pressed together, with a hint of guilt.

I shook my head. "Dr. Scott, this isn't your fault; you don't need to apologize."

Brian looked at me for a moment and said, "I heard Oliver was thrown; can I take a look at him?"

I nodded and handed Oliver over. Oliver didn't resist Brian at all, obediently lying in his arms.

Brian examined him, looking a bit serious, "I don't see any external injuries for now, and he doesn't react when touched, but I can't rule out internal injuries. I remember there's a pet hospital nearby; let's go for a full check-up to be sure."

I nodded, even if Brian hadn't suggested it, I would have taken Oliver to the vet. I couldn't rest easy otherwise.

I got in the car with Brian, and there was a pet hospital just a mile away.

I bought a full check-up for Oliver. After the examination, the doctor told me Oliver was fine, just a bit scared, and suggested I take him home and comfort him.

I exhaled in relief and bought some pet supplies from the hospital before heading back.

Brian looked at my face and offered, "You have an injury on your face; let me treat it for you. It doesn't look serious, but it would be bad if it left a scar."

I touched my face, it did hurt a bit. I realized I had gotten hurt during the fight with Aria, but I hadn't noticed because my body hurt too much at the time.

Brian took out a first aid kit and treated my wound. "Luckily, it's not serious and won't leave a scar, but you should keep applying the ointment for the next few days."

I looked at myself in the mirror, the blood on my forehead had already scabbed over. Earlier at the police station, Henry must have seen my injury, but he didn't show any concern; his mind was full of Aria.

I clutched my chest, my eyes stinging.

Brian handed me the ointment, and I nodded. "Got it, Dr. Scott, thank you."

Brian smiled, his smile was very comforting. "You really like to say thank you and sorry a lot."
