Chapter 65
Ryder’s p.o.v “Just where do think you’re going Ryder? Luna Rebecca sent me to find you. She was worried something was wrong when you left without a word.” Brett came out yelling at me.
“Didn’t seem to me like anyone cared that I was there. I decided my time was best spent on trying to go and get the rest of the rogue pack. I’m just hoping to find them all still alive.” If Darius had made it back, they wouldn’t be.
I looked around the grand hall of this pack house and saw people running about. They all looked as though they were on a mission. Some were relaxing with friends though. They didn’t pay attention to me wondering out here. It was as though they were content in their own little world.
I had to admit that this place was pretty cozy. My sister would love it here. It reminded me of my pack house. It was boisterously decorated without being pretentious. I could tell a lot of thought and love had gone into decorating this place. I wondered if it was that Luna Alexandria that had done the layout.
“That’s not fair Ryder. If you would have stayed, you would have figured out why everyone was so happy. That couple that you helped us find in the cells, well, those are Alpha Jared’s parents. They were thought dead. What you saw was them being reunited with family. I’m sorry if you thought the Luna didn’t want you there, she was just excited to find them after all this time.” Who was he kidding?
“Look, I realize that was the only reason the Luna needed me around. After all, I’m just a rogue. Now that she has her family and her pack is safe, she doesn’t need an outsider in her way.” I wasn’t sure where to go from here.
“No, that’s not true. She wants you by her side. She trusts you and your judgement. She will need your help with the settling of the rest of your pack. On top of that, she wants you as her warrior. You should have seen the look on her face when she realized you had left. It was as though she had lost her best friend.”
“Yeah right. You’re just saying that to get me to come back in there.” Of course he would.
“No, she finds comfort in you. Perhaps it’s because of everything that’s happened tonight, she’s under so much pressure to be the Luna for this pack. She’s here at the house trying to make sure everything is taken care of instead of at the clinic with her mate that almost died, or even her own father. She’s still trying to make sure everything is set right at risk to her own health. But you, for some reason it’s you that seems to calm her nerves. She feels safe with you by her side. She needs that if she’s going to stay strong for her pack.” Could Brett be telling the truth?
“Why do I matter so much? I’m just a pack less rogue. I’m not anyone special.” I am a disgrace and I know it.
“It’s all due to the fact that she saw what you have been through. The fact that you survived with your humanity intact. She saw your heart, Ryder. There’s no denying you have one.” He laughed one of those deep belly laughs.
“I might have a heart, but that doesn’t mean it belongs here. I must find Darius now that he has no help. He must be destroyed. If not for me, for everyone else’s life he has taken from them, or future wolves that are in his path.” Who knows what he has planned next.
“And we will. But first we need to secure the safety of the people here now. That includes your Omegas. Don’t the rest of your pack deserve a home. That’s what we need to figure out first.” He had a point.
“Ryder! You’re coming with me! Let’s go. Brett, you too. Grab some warriors and hurry up! We need to get there and back as quickly as possible!” Jack was walking quickly past us.
“Where are we going now.” What did he have planned was more like it.
“Did you think we were going to leave your sister and the rest of your pack on their own. I want to go get them before Darius has a chance to get there. We’re bringing them back here to the clinic. I want everyone checked out and healed if need be. Tomorrow, we start separating and housing. So, let’s get a move on it already.” Maybe they did want me to stay.
It was only a half hour later that we arrived at the rogue camp. There was no sign of Darius anywhere. No one had seen him return either. He probably figured there was no reason to bother with a bunch of Omegas and children. They couldn’t help him anyway.
Everyone in the camp was happy to be free at last. They couldn’t wait to get back to the Four Prairies pack. Just to have a chance at a real meal and a bed. I found my sister near her tent. With all the commotion she had been woken up in a daze.
“What’s going on Ryder? Are they here to capture us?” She was still so innocent.
“No my dear sister. They are here to help save us. Darius is gone. He ran away from his challenge and has lost both his packs. I’m taking you to the Luna of the other pack. I want you to help her with the rogue relocation. Just remember, you are no longer a slave. You will be safe there, I promise.” No one would ever hurt her again.
“What about you? Aren’t you going to stay there with me? You can’t think of leaving me all alone.” It wouldn’t matter, as long as I know she’s safe.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. I’ll be around for awhile though. The Luna needs a guard until her mate, the new Alpha, heals. He was injured during the challenge. He almost didn’t make it. So, it will take time for him to heal. The Luna will need encouragement and support. Do you think you can do this for her?” I knew my sister would be perfect for the job.
“Of course, just take me to her. I’ll do my best.” She never could resist helping anyone.
“There are some things you should know about our new Luna though. I’ll tell you on the way.” Where do I start?
