I wanted to sleep but my mind couldn't stop wandering and it was giving me a headache.
I heard a knock on the door and I sat upright then told whoever knocked to come inside.
It was Alina with a glass of milk, “Here you go,” she placed it in my hands.
“Go on, take a sip,” she instructed while sitting next to me.
“Why? Did you put some love spell in here?” I looked around the glass.
“Liam cut the crap and took a sip,” she held my hand and pushed the glass towards my mouth and I took a sip.
“Done,now I believe I'm all yours ma'am…use me,” I placed the glass on the table next to my bed.
“Please finish it before dinner,” she pointed at me and she was dead serious.
“Okay ma'am I understand you very well and it will be done as you say,” I gave her a smile then picked up the glass.
“By the way,the main reason why I'm here is that my girl requested to talk to you so I'm here to take you to her room for some chit chat,” she said.
I almost choked on the milk I was sipping after hearing those words from her because last time I checked,Kara wasn't fond of me and she's the last person I expected to talk to in this house.
“Why are you looking like you have seen a ghost? Are we going or not?” She asked.
“Uhm,please forgive me but I was just surprised by the news,” I replied.
“Haha yeah I can understand but people do change so I guess she also did,” she replied.
“Okay please let's go and I meet her,” I took another sip of milk before we left my room.
We reached her room and her mom knocked before getting in…we found her reading some book and when she saw us,she put it away on the bed just next to her.
“Baby how are you feeling?” Alina asked as she sat next to her.
“I feel fine mom…hey Liam please take a seat,” she pointed at the couch opposite to her bed.
“Would you like anything to eat or drink?” Alina asked.
“No mom,I'm okay thanks,” she replied in a soft voice.
Alina kissed her on the forehead and then said, “ I think I should leave you two to talk as I go check on my work on the laptop,” she stood up.
“No mom please stay,I would love you to also be here,” Kara said and her mom sat back on the bed.
“Uhm Liam,I know we started off really on a bad note but I acted the way I did because I was greedy when it comes to my mom. All these years it has always been me and her so when she introduced you as my dad,I knew you had come to take my place in her life of being her first priority,” her eyes became watery all of a sudden.
“Baby,you will always be my first priority no matter what so please don't think that anyone can ever take your place,” Alina moved forward and gave her a tight hug to comfort her.
“I'm sorry mom that I doubted your love,” she sniffed.
“It's okay baby,please don't blame yourself because I do understand you,” Alina rubbed her back.
They pulled out of the hug and Alina rubbed off her tears from the face.
“Liam,when I was in your room and mom told me the news that you were going to be my donor,out of shame,I decided to just walk away instead of saying thank you and showing my gratitude because you gave up your life to save mine…I called you here to tell you that from the bottom of my heart,I'm sorry for being mean to you before and I'm grateful that you gave me a second chance to life,” Kara said with a bit of shaking but her mom held her hands to keep her steady.
“Kara,I accept your apology and I trust me when I say that I would save your life over and over again if I have a chance because you're my daughter and I love you so much.yes we haven't gotten time yet to bond but I still have hope,” I squeezed my lips in a flat line.
“Liam,that's so sweet of you…can I please hug you?” She asked while sobbing.
“Yeah sure,” I stood up and walked towards her bed and then we hugged.
“Thank you so much,” she whispered.
I just rubbed the back of her head to show her that I'm with her.
“Okay Kara,I think we should leave you to have some rest…come on Liam,” Alina stood up and I followed her behind but we met up with the nurse at the door.
“Oh you guys are here? No wonder I have been looking for you but couldn't find you,” she said.
“Oh we are sorry about that…yes,how could we be of help?” Alina asked.
“I wanted some ice to fill my kit where I keep Kara's medicine but I met up with one of your maids and she did a great job to help me with that,” she replied.
“Oh then that is good to know,” Alina replied.
“So,I'm here to check on Kara and give her medicine on time,” she showed us what she was carrying on the tray.
“Oh okay,please go right ahead,” Alina and I stepped aside so she could enter and do her job.
We left her room and moved back to mine and I reached out to my glass and gulped down all the milk in one go.
“So you mean to tell me that the conversation you had with Kara drained you to that extent of taking the milk in one go?” She was dumbfounded.
“Ma'am you told me to finish it before I sleep,” I replied.
“So are you going to sleep now?” She asked.
“No but you never know I might forget to take it so I did it once and for all,” I replied.
“Hmm I see,so by the way I always wanted to ask you how you managed to handle work at the office for all the time we spent at the hospital?” she asked.
“Oh about that,my secretary is very good…even if I go missing for a year,she knows the do’s and don't’s of the company,” I replied.
“Hmm do I know her?” she asked.
“Yes of course you do,Cynthia,” I replied.
“Oh my goodness! You guys are still working together??” her eyes almost fell out of their sockets.
“Haha yeah we are still together,she's really good,I can't just let her go,” I replied.
“Now I understand why you're at peace with no pressure,” she replied.
