Chapter 265 I'll Go Back and Take Photos for You
Seeing Daisy's puzzled expression, Ethan gave her a quick rundown of what had happened the night before.
Daisy didn't think much of it. "He said before that I'm Luna's mother, so he wouldn't let anything happen to me."
Ethan pressed, "Are you sure that's all it is? If that were the case, he could've just had someone drive you home. Plus, I was right there and even mentioned getting Felix, but he insisted on holding onto you like we were about to tear you apart!"
Daisy frowned. "I don't know... but he shouldn't have any bad intentions toward me."
Seeing she wasn't getting it, Ethan said bluntly, "Have you ever considered that Vincent might regret things?"
Daisy shook her head in denial. "How's that possible? He's about to marry Vanessa."
With that, she headed off to work.
Seeing how certain she was, Ethan began to doubt his own instincts. But his gut told him that the way Vincent had looked at Daisy last night was anything but simple.
Daisy noticed Noah was giving her strange looks too.
She asked, "Why are you staring at me like that?"
Noah said, "You're really something. Dating Felix, making him push himself to meet his family's expectations for you, while also keeping Vincent hung up on you."
Daisy frowned. "Noah, I haven't done anything to you. Why are you slandering me?"
Noah appeared to be in a foul mood and scoffed coldly. "I'm stating facts!"
Daisy shot back, "Felix and I are in a relationship by choice. We both work hard and push ourselves, partly for each other, but that's because we share the same goals. Even if we weren't dating, we'd still work hard! As for Vincent, I have no idea what you're talking about!"
She was already stressed enough, and now two people in a row had questioned her first thing in the morning. Her mood had soured considerably.
Noah rarely saw her angry, so he fell silent.

At the office, Vanessa tracked down Angela. "That thing about Vincent buying a diamond ring last time—who told you about it?"
Angela froze. "I... I can't remember..."
Seeing Vanessa's frown deepen, she quickly corrected herself. "I'll think about it carefully and ask around again!"
Though she was confused—hadn't that huge diamond already been given to Vanessa? Why bring it up again?—Angela kept her doubts to herself when she saw Vanessa's dark expression.
Before long, Angela found several reliable sources, and Vanessa followed the trail, confirming the ring's value.
When she learned the truth, a chill spread through her chest.
The world's most precious Cullinan Diamond was housed in the British royal family's collection—a national treasure not for sale.
The diamond Vincent had purchased was only slightly smaller than the Cullinan. Once cut and set into a ring, it was worth nearly ten billion dollars.
She had jewelry consultant contacts, and the message they sent was devastatingly clear: [A natural diamond this size starts at five hundred million dollars minimum.]
Vincent had given Daisy a five-hundred-million-dollar gift?
Vanessa was usually good at showing little jealous tantrums, but this time she thought it over carefully—she couldn't ask Vincent directly.
First, because their wedding plans weren't finalized yet.
Second, her past displays of jealousy had been to make Vincent care more about her. But if she exposed this now, she feared...
She feared it would provoke Vincent and make him realize his true feelings.
So after pacing in circles, she chose to call Luna instead.
"Hello? Luna?" Her voice was gentle, but her fists were clenched tight.
Luna's voice came through the phone. "Hello? What's up, Vanessa?"
Vanessa smiled. "I told you, call me Vanessa."
Luna didn't correct herself. "I'm doing crafts. The teacher's going to check them soon!"
"Okay, okay, I won't keep you." Hearing Luna was about to hang up, Vanessa quickly added, "I just wanted to ask—that big diamond your dad gave your mom, do you have a photo? I'd love to see it!"
Luna said, "I'll take a picture when I get home!"
Vanessa's heart leapt with satisfaction. That was exactly what she wanted. When Luna had helped her steal Daisy's documents before, she'd used the same tactic.
She hadn't expected it to work even more easily this time.
It seemed that despite being kept at a distance on the surface, the child was still quite close to her.
She instructed Luna carefully, "Be careful when you photograph the diamond. Don't let your mom catch you, or she'll think you're trying to take it and get upset."
"She won't!" Luna said. "Mommy said the diamond is for me."
If this had been earlier, Vanessa might have believed it.
Because Vincent's affection for her had been so convincing. She would have thought the gift was truly just for Luna, that Vincent only cared about his daughter.
But recent events had shaken her confidence badly.
She said, "Your mom might just be saying that. She probably loves that diamond and put it in a safe, right?"
Luna replied, "Nope, the diamond's in my room! Mommy didn't seem very happy when she got it. She kept saying it was from Daddy for me. Great-grandma told me to keep it too."
Vanessa paused. "Really?"
She suddenly doubted her own judgment again.
Had she misread everything? Did Vincent not actually like Daisy at all? Was all his kindness toward her really just because of their child?
After thinking it over, she asked, "What was your dad's reaction?"
Luna said, "Daddy wasn't very happy. He said it was for Mommy, and he'd give me a birthday present when my birthday comes!"
She sounded excited. "Vanessa, what do you think Daddy will give me for my birthday? Will you give me a present too?"
Vanessa couldn't speak.
Her phone dropped to the floor with a sharp crack. All she could hear was the questioning voice on the other end: "Vanessa?"
Vanessa steadied herself before picking up the phone, but her hands felt foreign—they were shaking badly.
When she looked at the screen again, the call had already disconnected.
---
That evening, Luna bounced home and asked Daisy, "Mommy, what will you give me for my birthday?"
Daisy was surprised. "Why are you talking about birthdays now? Is there something specific you want?"
Luna said brightly, "Yes! I want a punching bag!"
Faced with the child's sparkling eyes, both Daisy and Grandma fell silent.
