Chapter 207 What Exactly Are Cordelia's Virtues and Abilities?

Chapter 207 What Exactly Are Cordelia's Virtues and Abilities?

"Amber fell asleep in the castle playground today and I couldn't find her. He came over to help me look for her."

Cordelia gave a brief explanation as she walked into the house.

Donald nodded slightly and said seriously, "Then we really should thank him."

"You're probably the only one who could make him pause a meeting to come help you find Amber."

Cordelia pressed her lips together, as she emembered the day she was still in Alaric's car and he got called away by Janet's phone call.

Janet probably had that same ability too.

Cordelia quietly sighed and didn't respond.

Donald could tell something was off from her expression and asked softly, "What's wrong? Did you two have another disagreement?"

Hearing this, Cordelia smiled faintly and shook her head.

The problems between her and Alaric would keep existing as long as Janet was around.

Seeing she didn't want to talk about it, Donald let out a soft sigh.

He knew Cordelia's personality well.

Cordelia and Donald entered the house. Dominic also got up from the sofa, pulling his luggage.

"Mr. Stone, Cordelia, I should head back too."

Donald nodded and didn't insist he stay for dinner, instead saying with a smile.

"Alright, drive safe. When you throw your housewarming party, we'll come see your new place."

Dominic nodded slightly, disappointment flashed across his eyes,, "Okay."

"I'll walk you to the door." Cordelia wore her usual smile.

Dominic nodded.

Walking out of The Stone Manor, Dominic hesitated for a moment before finally speaking.

"Cordelia, Herschel has been working at the bar all these years, dealing with all kinds of people. You shouldn't get too close to him."

"You didn't know about what happened back then, and it wasn't your fault, so you don't have to—"

Cordelia pressed her lips together, cutting off Dominic's words.

"Dominic, I know what I'm doing."

"But if it weren't for your phone call that night, I don't think Mr. Trevino and I would have had any contact."

Hearing Cordelia's words, Dominic's expression froze. He thought about that night when Cordelia came to the bar to pick him up—it was indeed with his silent permission that Herschel and the others called her.

He had really wanted to know whether Cordelia would come to the bar to pick him up.

After all, they hadn't been back in the country long, and Alaric had gotten drunk a few times, and Cordelia had gone to take care of him each time.

So he had been strangely compelled to find out if he held even a tiny bit of the same place in Cordelia's heart as Alaric did.

"Cordelia."

Dominic opened his mouth, wanting to say something but stopping.

Cordelia smiled calmly, "After all, I was the reason Herschel got fired. I'm just making up for it in my own way."

"But Dominic, you must know something about how the Murphy family pushed all the blame onto Herschel, right?"

Dominic's expression changed slightly, his tone becoming somewhat heavy.

"Fiona was just too worried about being punished by her parents, so she lied without thinking. Her parents were strict with her, and her mom isn't even her real mom. If she had admitted her mistake back then, it would have been hard for her to survive in the Murphy family."

As Dominic spoke, he couldn't help but look up at Cordelia.

Seeing Cordelia watching him quietly, her gem-like eyes showing some confusion that seemed unable to understand, Dominic suddenly didn't know how to continue.

"Cordelia, I'm sorry."

Dominic took a breath, feeling inexplicably flustered.

Cordelia's expression remained composed, her tone normal, "Dominic, you haven't done anything to wrong me. Why are you apologizing?"

In Cordelia's mind, Dominic had always been a very upright person, a true gentleman.

She just hadn't expected that during the year Herschel was fired, Dominic knew all the details and knew that Fiona had lied.

She had thought that maybe Dominic didn't know about Fiona's lie.

But he knew everything. He even took Fiona's side, choosing to sacrifice Herschel's future.

Cordelia really wanted to ask Dominic—if Fiona would have had a hard time surviving in the Murphy family, did Herschel have it easy after being expelled?

But she was the trigger for the whole incident, so she had no right to question Dominic.

At the same time, her guilt toward Herschel was gradually growing in her heart.

Dominic fell silent.

Cordelia withdrew her gaze from him, her expression calm, "Dominic, I won't walk you out any further."

"Take care."

After speaking, Cordelia turned and went back inside.

Dominic stood in The Stone Manor's courtyard, watching Cordelia's retreating figure, not moving for a long time.

After a while, his phone rang. Dominic took out his phone and saw it was a call from Fiona. His expression darkened as he swiped to answer.

"What is it?"

Before Fiona could say anything, she heard Dominic's extremely displeased voice.

Her expression changed, and she laughed awkwardly.

"Who made you unhappy in the middle of the day?"

Dominic: "Get to the point."

Fiona was taken aback by his attitude. She took a deep breath and said softly.

"What I'm about to tell you might also make you unhappy. It's about Ms. Stone."

Dominic frowned. Hearing Fiona mention Cordelia made him slightly uncomfortable.

"Hurry up and say it."

Fiona sighed softly.

"I just wanted to let you know about Ms. Stone drumming up business for Herschel last night."

Dominic's face went cold, "I know."

Fiona took a breath, "What I mean is, Ms. Stone's relationship with Alaric seems unusual."

"As far as I know, Ms. Stone was taken away by Mr. Hughes last night, then stayed at his place the whole time, and only left this morning."

Dominic's hand gripping the phone tightened slightly.

"You're following her?"

Fiona laughed helplessly and said, "What kind of person do you think I am? Why would I follow her? A friend of mine was at the bar last night and saw Mr. Hughes. You know Mr. Hughes' status in the country now—everyone wants to have some connection with him."

"She told me after she saw them. Ms. Stone isn't as innocent as you imagine."

Dominic snorted coldly, "Stop gossiping about her from now on."

Fiona fell silent.

"Dominic, I'm doing this for your own good. I know your feelings for Ms. Stone. After all, you two grew up together since childhood. I can understand that. But if only one person is putting effort into a relationship, isn't that just wasted effort?"

"After all, we've been friends for many years. Seeing you like this breaks my heart."

"Ms. Stone's heart isn't with you at all. She—"

If Cordelia could go to a bar once and get taken away by Alaric, clearly all that usual noble elegance was just an act.

With something like this happening, she naturally didn't want to miss the chance to drive a wedge between Dominic and Cordelia.

But before she could finish, the call disconnected.

She pulled the phone away from her ear and saw the ended call. She clenched her teeth so hard she could have crushed them.

What made Cordelia so special that Dominic would stay so devoted to her for all these years!
