Chapter 206 She Has No Other Intentions Towards Alaric
Herschel has been working in nightclubs all these years, so his mind is pretty complicated.
Cordelia is very innocent, and she worries that Herschel might take advantage of her.
Donald saw Alaric carrying Amber into the house from outside. He got up from the sofa with a smile and asked quietly.
"Asleep?"
Alaric nodded, his tone soft.
"I'll carry her upstairs."
Donald nodded, then looked at Allegra.
Allegra immediately led Alaric upstairs to Cordelia's room.
Amber had her own children's room, but she liked staying with Cordelia, anddelia couldn't bear to sleep apart from her either.
Alaric nodded slightly and carried Amber upstairs.
As he went up, he saw a suitcase next to Dominic, and his mood suddenly brightened.
Cordelia entered the house, saw Dominic, paused for a moment, and took the initiative to greet him.
"Dominic."
Since the day Fiona sent her that provocative message and Cordelia told Dominic about it, she hadn't seen him.
She glanced at the suitcase beside him and knew why he came today.
Dominic nodded.
"Did you and Mr. Hughes take Amber out?"
Cordelia nodded slightly without much explanation, walked over and sat down on the sofa, looking somewhat tired.
Taking a child out is exhausting in itself, and after being frightened today, only when she got home did Cordelia's anxious heart finally settle down.
A flash of disappointment crossed Dominic's eyes.
Donald saw this and felt a bit heavy-hearted.
He had always been clear about Dominic's feelings for Cordelia, but since Cordelia didn't have feelings for Dominic, that's why he made Dominic his godson.
Dominic hadn't been living at The Stone Manor recently.
He came today to pack his things. Donald had a pretty good idea that some conflict must have arisen between Dominic and Cordelia.
The two had grown up together, and the Gray family and the Stone family were old friends.
Donald didn't want their family relationship to become strained because of Dominic's feelings for Cordelia.
"I heard the Hughes Group has been developing other projects lately, yet Alaric can still find time to spend with you and Amber. He's really thoughtful." After Donald finished speaking, he picked up his teacup and took a light sip.
He said this to discourage Dominic's hopes.
Hearing Donald's words, Dominic felt an inexplicable panic.
He had always considered Alaric his rival.
He knew very well that if Alaric paid enough attention to Cordelia, his own chances would be cut in half.
After all, Amber was Alaric and Cordelia's child, and Fiona had sent Cordelia that kind of message. With barely any chance to begin with, under these conditions, he had even less of one now.
But he just wasn't willing to give up.
Why could Alaric do it, but not him?
"Yes." Cordelia responded dully.
The fact that Alaric rushed over immediately after receiving a call from the amusement park manager did show he cared.
But his caring actually made Cordelia feel quite uncomfortable.
She could call Alaric over with one phone call, but Janet could also call him away with one phone call.
In Alaric's heart, she really wasn't anything special.
Dominic looked at Cordelia's distracted expression, felt a sharp pain in his heart, and didn't want to continue talking about Alaric, so he changed the subject.
"My place has been renovated, but I still need to buy some furniture."
"Cordelia, when are you free to help me pick out some furniture?"
Hearing this, Cordelia hesitated and nodded.
"Sure, but the style I like might be different from yours."
"Plus, I don't really know much about furniture."
Donald naturally took over the conversation at this point.
"For buying furniture, you can ask me! I'm an expert. When we were decorating our house, I personally selected all the furniture."
Donald got excited about this topic.
Seeing Cordelia's lack of interest, Dominic could only smile and chat with Donald about it.
After Alaric put Amber on the bed, he walked downstairs.
When he reached the stairway, he saw Cordelia leaning back on the sofa, her whole body sinking into it.
Dominic's attention had been on Cordelia all along. Hearing footsteps from upstairs, he looked over and saw Alaric standing at the stairway looking at Cordelia.
His expression changed slightly, and he immediately looked back at Cordelia.
Cordelia didn't look up at Alaric. Her gaze was somewhat unfocused, lost in thought.
From Alaric's angle, Cordelia's eyes seemed to be fixed on Dominic's luggage.
His eyes darkened as he walked down from upstairs.
"Mr. Stone."
He greeted Donald.
Donald nodded and immediately smiled at Alaric.
"Alaric, will you stay for dinner tonight?"
"I'll make something you like."
Hearing this, Alaric looked down at the time, his expression showing some difficulty.
"There's still a meeting at the company that hasn't finished. I need to go back and continue."
Hearing Alaric's words, Cordelia looked up at him.
"You interrupted a meeting to rush over?"
Alaric responded flatly, his tone revealing little emotion.
Cordelia pressed her lips together, a flash of guilt in her eyes.
Alaric withdrew his gaze from Cordelia and said to Donald.
"Mr. Stone, I'll head back to the company now. I'll come by another day."
Donald nodded and got up to see Alaric out of The Stone Manor.
Cordelia sat quietly on the sofa.
Only after Alaric and Donald left the living room did she get up from the sofa to go out.
At this moment, Dominic called out to Cordelia.
"Cordelia, nothing happened between Fiona and me. I was very drunk that day, so..."
Cordelia listened quietly to Dominic's words, her gaze calm without any emotional fluctuation, as if she were listening to a patient describing their condition.
Seeing Cordelia's expression, Dominic paused, "So nothing happened between Fiona and me."
Cordelia nodded slightly. She didn't know what to say, but seeing Dominic looking at her so seriously, as if hoping she'd say something, she hesitated for a few seconds and then said.
"Drinking can lead to mistakes. You should be careful."
She made this rational comment based on her own experience.
After all, last night, she had made a mistake after drinking.
After Cordelia finished speaking, she walked toward the living room exit.
Donald had already seen Alaric to his car.
After Alaric got in, the driver started the car and left.
As the car drove out of The Stone Manor, Alaric glanced out the window but didn't see Cordelia. He frowned and looked away.
When Cordelia came out of the living room, Alaric had already left.
Donald turned back and, seeing Cordelia come out, said flatly.
"Alaric's already gone."
Cordelia paused, her expression somewhat subtle, and said with an awkward smile.
"I wasn't—"
"I know, you didn't come out to see Alaric off." Before she could finish, Donald cut her off.
Cordelia was speechless for a moment, then said, "I just wanted to say thank you to him, nothing else."
Donald nodded again, "Okay, I know you didn't mean anything else."
Cordelia fell silent.
