Chapter 317 Her Boyfriend is Herschel
Chapter 317 Her Boyfriend is Herschel
Cordelia walked over to her car and opened the door. Just as she was about to get in, Alaric strode over and grabbed her car door.
"Are you jealous?"
Cordelia paused at his words and glanced at Hazel, who was standing not far away. Hazel was waving at her, looking very friendly.
She bit her lip lightly, realizing she had lost her composure, then said coolly.
"No."
"I'm about to be late, so I want to get back to the hospital quickly."
Hearing this, Alaric reached out and ruffled her hair.
"There's no engagement between Hazel and me. Don't be upset."
Cordelia looked at him patiently, explaining, feeling inexplicably reassured. "I'm not upset."
She answered softly, then said in a low voice.
"I really am going to be late."
Only then did Alaric let go of the car door and reminded her.
"Drive safe, and call me when you get there."
Cordelia nodded, started the car, and left.
When Cordelia's car drove past the entrance of the Hughes Group tower, Hazel hurried to wave her farewell, looking super friendly and obviously trying to cover her bases.
Alaric watched Cordelia's car leave before walking into the company.
Hazel quickly followed.
"Mr. Hughes, I heard Mr. Harris is back in the country and is holding a yacht party in Sunrise City. Could you recommend the Morrison family to him?"
The Harris family was the key to unlocking the Luminar market's.
This time, Gabriel personally returned to the country, and the Morrison family also wanted to get on his radar early, but none of the Morrison family members had received Gabriel's invitation.
Without hesitation, Alaric refused directly.
"No."
Upon hearing this, Hazel's eyes showed some embarrassment, and she quickly said.
"Mr. Hughes, it's just a small favor from you. You can recommend the Stone family, so why not recommend me too?"
The Morrison family's business was much bigger than the Stone family's now.
Evelyn was indeed capable, but after the Stone family's major setback three years ago, they still hadn't fully recovered. Compared to the Morrison family, they had fewer assets.
If Alaric wanted to find a strategic partner, the Morrison family would be a great choice.
"I haven't recommended anyone to Mr. Harris."
As Alaric spoke, he walked into the elevator.
Hazel naturally didn't believe what Alaric said. If Alaric hadn't introduced her, why would Gabriel invite Evelyn?
Although Evelyn was capable, among all the wealthy families in Sunset Ridge Town, she had always been a lone wolf, so there were many others Gabriel would invite before her. Evelyn definitely wouldn't be on the list.
"You're lying."
Alaric glanced at her coldly and signaled the manager to hold Hazel back.
The elevator door closed. Hazel tried to get in but was held back by a nearby staff member.
"Ms. Morrison, if you keep this up, Mr. Hughes is going to get angry."
Hazel took a deep breath and snorted, saying unhappily.
"He's really been blinded by love."
Alaric must have recommended Evelyn to Gabriel because he wanted to pursue Cordelia.
Although Hazel was upset that Alaric didn't consider the relationship between their two families, she didn't keep pestering him and left angrily.
Seeing Hazel leave, the manager secretly breathed a sigh of relief before returning to his workstation.
After work, Cordelia had just finished packing up her things when Hannah appeared at her office door, knocked, and poked her head in.
"Ready to go?"
Cordelia nodded slightly, walked to the storage room to change out of her white coat, and saw Hannah's carefully done makeup and styling . A smile curved her lips.
"A woman nourished by love really does bloom like a flower."
Hannah felt a bit shy from Cordelia's compliment.
She gently pushed Cordelia with her hand.
"Are you talking about yourself?"
"I heard Mr. Hughes has been pursuing you lately. How does it feel?"
Cordelia smiled. "He's really making an effort."
Hannah chuckled and quickly said, "That's good. You absolutely can't forgive him too easily."
"He ignored you and neglected you for so many years. You should really make him work for it."
As Hannah spoke, her expression suddenly became nervous. She grabbed Cordelia, moved closer, and said in a low voice.
"What if Mr. Hughes finds out down the road that Amber is his kid and realizes I messed with the hospital background checks? He's not gonna kill me, is he?"
After Cordelia and Alaric divorced, all the hospital doctors conducted physical examinations.
Cordelia was pregnant back then. If the screening had caught it, her pregnancy would probably have been discovered. So, during the examination process, Hannah swapped Cordelia's real test results for a clean report under Cordelia's name, allowing Cordelia to get through the screening.
Cordelia pressed her lips together and said softly.
"If this really gets discovered, then I'll just have to protect you."
Getting Cordelia's promise, Hannah finally felt at ease.
She was Cordelia's best colleague and friend. Even if Alaric was angry, he would forgive her for Cordelia's sake, right?
The two chatted as they entered the underground parking garage.
Cordelia sat in the passenger seat, fastened her seatbelt, yawned, and said softly.
"I barely slept at all last night. When you guys are having fun later, there'll be somewhere on the yacht where I can sneak in a nap, right?"
No one was working tomorrow. According to the plan, they would leave at seven and wouldn't return until midnight.
Cordelia was already feeling sleepy, and her body felt tired.
Hearing Cordelia's words, Hannah's lips curved into a smile as she said.
"What? Did Mr. Hughes wear you out last night?"
Cordelia raised an eyebrow slightly.
Last night, she had indeed been tormented by Alaric.
But it was in her mind.
She had barely slept all night.
Seeing Cordelia's silence, Hannah took it as confirmation and became even more excited.
"Tell me more details?"
Hearing this, Cordelia scoffed lightly.
"Try having some normal thoughts in your head."
Hannah laughed. Just as she was about to respond to Cordelia, her phone rang.
Hannah answered.
"Honey?"
"We're already on the way, we'll be at the dock soon."
"How much good wine did you bring? Go ahead and move the wine onto the yacht first. The captain Harry hired should be there."
Cordelia listened quietly to Hannah's phone call, feeling that the faint male voice coming through seemed somewhat familiar.
After Hannah hung up, Cordelia asked with a smile.
"Your boyfriend?"
Hannah nodded.
"Yes."
Cordelia looked at her sweet smile and smiled along with her.
"I really want to see who could win over our beautiful lady."
A blush crossed Hannah's face as she looked at Cordelia and said softly.
"Actually, you know my boyfriend, too."
Hearing this, Cordelia raised an eyebrow slightly. Thinking of the male voice she had just heard, she paused and said to Hannah in a low voice.
"It's not Herschel, is it?"
