Chapter 318 No One Would Be as Foolish as Her
Hannah saw the undisguised surprise on Cordelia's face and grinned.
"Yeah."
She glanced at Cordelia, and seeing that Cordelia seemed to need a moment to process this news, she hesitated before adding softly.
"He's Dominic's classmate, and they're really close. You must know something about him, right?"
"Come on, tell me what you think of him."
Hearing this, Cordelia didn't know where to begin.
"Actually, I haven't been in touch with him for many years either. We only reconnected when we went to the bar that time."
"He was excellent at school."
Hannah said quietly, "I know that, but later he transferred schools for some reason, so his grades dropped quite a bit."
"But even after the drop, he's still better than most people."
When Hannah talked about Herschel, she changed from her usual cheerful style, her face full of smiles. Cordelia could even see a lot of tenderness in her eyes.
She pressed her lips together lightly, feeling somehow that something wasn't quite right.
But seeing Hannah's happy expression, she seemed to be getting along very well with Herschel. Maybe she was just overthinking it.
"Did he tell you all this?"
Hannah nodded. "I just mentioned it briefly, I didn't press him. But he's doing pretty well now. I thought he was just working as a promoter at the bar, but it turns out he has his own design company doing home renovation design."
"He works as a promoter at the bar because the people who go there are all wealthy, so he takes the opportunity to bring in clients for his company."
Cordelia had no idea that Herschel had also started his own company, so she could only listen quietly as Hannah spoke.
Hannah's satisfaction with Herschel was completely evident from her voice and facial expressions.
Cordelia felt a wave of relief wash over her. She'd been planning to tell Hannah that she had played a role in Herschel's transfer, but when she saw how happy Hannah looked, and since it was her birthday, she chose not to bring it up.
They arrived at the dock.
Hannah parked the car.
Herschel spotted Hannah's car from a distance and walked over.
A few other people were standing at the dock.
Cordelia looked over and saw Fiona, Dominic, and others.
During her time in Ravenshollow, Hannah had probably been spending all her time with Herschel, so naturally she'd gotten to know Dominic, Fiona, and the others.
Herschel walked to the driver's side to open the door for Hannah, and the smile on his face faded slightly when he saw Cordelia.
"Ms. Stone."
He greeted her.
Cordelia smiled faintly and nodded lightly, unbuckling her seatbelt and opening the car door to get out.
Hannah's fingers slid from Herschel's hand as she stepped down. She took his arm and, with a playful smile, fixed her eyes on Cordelia.
"Cordelia, you know everyone, so I don't need to introduce them, right?"
Cordelia smiled back and said softly.
"If you want to introduce them, go ahead."
Hannah chuckled softly and actually did start introducing.
"This is my boyfriend, Herschel."
Cordelia smiled slightly.
"Hello, I'm Hannah's boyfriend."
Hannah laughed and patted Herschel, saying, "Herschel, this is my bestie, Cordelia."
Herschel nodded lightly, clearly a bit uncomfortable.
Hannah didn't notice the change in Herschel's expression and instead looked at Cordelia, saying.
"I've officially introduced you to my boyfriend now, so you can't say I kept it from you."
Cordelia nodded.
Dominic and Fiona were standing at the dock.
Fiona saw Cordelia, and the corners of her lips curved up slightly. She wanted to reach out and take Dominic's hand, but Dominic avoided her.
Fiona gritted her teeth secretly, her eyes full of displeasure, and said softly.
"Dominic, do you think keeping your distance from me will make Cordelia give you a second look?"
"She's a smart person. When she has better options, she'll definitely choose the better person."
"No one is as stupid as me, only thinking about you."
Hannah walked toward the dock arm in arm with Herschel, chatting as they went.
Cordelia quietly followed behind them.
Fiona saw Cordelia approaching and reached out to take Dominic's hand. This time, Dominic didn't pull away.
Fiona smiled and took the initiative to greet Cordelia.
"Ms. Stone, good afternoon."
Cordelia nodded lightly and looked at Dominic and Fiona.
"Mr. Gray, Ms. Murphy, good afternoon."
She spoke with complete indifference, as if she were watching two people who meant absolutely nothing to her.
Fiona smiled smugly and, holding Dominic's hand, followed behind Herschel and Hannah onto the yacht.
As they boarded the yacht, Herschel covered Hannah's eyes with his hand.
Hannah walked very slowly. After entering the yacht, a chorus of cheers rang out.
The yacht was decorated very romantically, with flowers everywhere.
After Herschel let go, he took out a ring from the side, got down on one knee, and looked up at Hannah.
"Hannah, happy birthday. I love you. Will you marry me?"
Hannah covered her mouth, her eyes full of surprise.
People around them started chanting, "Marry him, marry him."
Several of them were people Cordelia had seen at the bar before, probably from Herschel and Fiona's circle.
Harry, on the other hand, was sitting to the side, completely uninterested. When he saw Cordelia, his eyes lit up, and he quickly waved her over.
Cordelia walked over to Harry.
Harry patted the sofa, gesturing for her to sit down.
After Cordelia sat down, Harry covered his mouth with his hand, leaned close to Cordelia's ear, and said in a low voice.
"Cordelia, is this Herschel your friend? What's he like? He's only known Hannah for a few days, and things have progressed this far?"
Harry had been very busy lately. After connecting with Alaric through Cordelia last time, he'd landed several endorsement deals.
Hearing Harry's words, Cordelia couldn't help but look toward Hannah.
Their progress was indeed a bit fast.
It hadn't even been two months.
And Hannah had met Herschel through her. If Hannah wasn't happy in the future, she would feel uneasy about it too.
Harry also noticed the worry on Cordelia's face and immediately frowned, speaking up.
"Herschel, Hannah is dramatic and has a bad temper. At home, only her parents spoil her. Outsiders generally can't stand her temper."
"You've only known each other for how long, and you dare to marry her? I really admire you."
Harry had a smile on his face, none of the seriousness from before. His words sounded completely like he was joking.
Hannah glared at him.
Harry chuckled.
Hannah also snapped out of her surprise thanks to Harry's interruption.
She and Herschel had indeed only just met not long ago, and now they were getting married.
"Herschel, I'll accept the flowers, but as for the ring, you hold onto it for now."
"I'm not ready yet to become someone's wife or someone's daughter-in-law."
All that honeymoon bliss is just an illusion - eventually, reality kicks in with mortgage payments, grocery shopping, and daily routines.
Flash weddings rarely end in happily ever after.
Hannah wasn't about to roll the dice with her own future.
