Chapter 224 The Necklace She Lost Hasn't Been Found Yet
She used to desperately want to be part of this circle, but now, she felt grateful that she wasn't one of them yet.
Fortunately, she was still a nobody, so her embarrassing moment wouldn't last too long in this circle.
Robert walked over to Alaric's side at just the right time.
Alaric handed him the bracelet with a cold face.
"Destroy it."
When Robert saw the bracelet placed in his hand, a flash of surprise crossed his face, and he quickly admitted his mistake.
"It's my fault for not handling things properly."
He had no idea when Janet had stolen the design.
Alaric's face darkened as he sat down in his chair with a cold expression.
At this point, Robert wisely excused himself.
Cordelia stood to the side, quietly watching the scene, her eyes full of confusion and mixed emotions.
Janet, on her part, bit her lip hard. Seeing Alaric's heartless attitude, she knew that staying here wouldn't earn his forgiveness. She might as well just leave quietly.
Under everyone's gaze, she took a deep breath and slowly walked toward the outer hall.
She wanted to walk faster, but somehow, her legs felt weak.
If she walked too fast and ended up falling, that would be even more embarrassing.
She endured everyone's contemptuous and scornful looks as she left the inner hall.
When she reached the outer hall, she exhaled deeply.. But she had barely taken two steps when Marlowe came over and slapped her across the face. "How dare you mislead me!"
Janet was stunned by Marlowe's slap, her expression somewhat dazed.
"What did I mislead you about?" She asked in confusion.
Marlowe gritted her teeth hard.
Janet clearly knew about Cordelia's background. In the dressing room, she chose to hide it and even hinted that Cordelia had a bigger backer.
When she asked if Cordelia was someone's sugar baby, Janet didn't respond, acting like she didn't want to talk about other people's private matters.
After Marlowe calmed down and thought about it, she felt like she had fallen into Janet's trap.
Janet had used her to target Cordelia, causing her to have to kneel and beg for forgiveness in the inner hall.
"I treated you as a friend, and you tried to harm me!"
Marlowe was getting angrier by the minute, wanting to tear off Janet's fake face.
The other people in the outer hall didn't know what was going on between them.
Many of Janet and Marlowe's mutual friends came over to break up the fight.
Janet covered her cheek, looking at Marlowe with red-rimmed eyes. "What does the Butler family's business have to do with me? Don't take your anger out on me just because you got upset in there. Anastasia was there too. Ask Anastasia, what did I say?"
Anastasia was Marlowe's other bridesmaid. She was completely shocked by the current situation.
Being timid by nature, she had no idea what to say.
Nevertheless, she spoke up. "Marlowe, we're all friends, and today is your wedding day. Calm down."
"Marlowe, calm down first," Janet also begged. "Whatever it is, we can talk about it another day. You probably don't want to see me today anyway, so I'll head back. Congratulations on your wedding." She didn't want to keep arguing with Marlowe.
After saying this, she tried to leave.
But several friends held her back, urging her not to go.
Still, she insisted on leaving.
Marlowe, on the other hand, was holding back her anger. Looking at Janet, she said in a low voice. "Leave? My missing necklace hasn't been found yet, and you want to leave? Earlier in the dressing room, it was just you and me. Anastasia wasn't there."
Janet's expression darkened when she heard this. After being wrongly accused, she instinctively tried to explain, "I didn't steal your necklace. It was just the two of us in the dressing room. Couldn't you see my every move?"
But Marlowe walked up to her and grabbed her wrist, sneering, "Who knows if you stole it or not? The bracelet you were wearing just now was also stolen, wasn't it?"
Janet froze, feeling like she couldn't defend herself anymore.
She gritted her teeth hard. She had hidden the necklace under the carpet though, so it wasn't on her.
Looking up at Marlowe, she said with a calm expression, "Then call the police."
Marlowe narrowed her eyes, staring at Janet, "You think I won't dare call the police?"
But Janet looked completely indifferent.
Marlowe took a deep breath. Just as she was about to have someone nearby call the police, the Butler family's butler came over.
"Marlowe, is this your necklace?"
Marlowe's expression was subtle. She took the necklace and nodded. "It's mine."
The butler, Calvin, was a distant relative of the Floyd family. Knowing what Marlowe had done before, he didn't have a good attitude toward her.
"The necklace was found under the carpet," he informed her. "Marlowe, Mr. Butler wants you to behave yourself and stop causing trouble."
Marlowe fell silent.
After handing her the necklace, Calvin turned and left.
Many of the influencers had now seen that Marlowe didn't have much status in the Butler family, since even a butler could act superior in front of her.
"Can I go now?" Janet asked, looking at Marlowe quietly.
Marlowe didn't answer.
Janet simply pursed her lips and walked away.
After taking a few steps, she stopped, then turned to Marlowe and said, "Marlowe, what happened today was just a misunderstanding. I don't blame you. We're still good friends."
Marlowe bit her lip subtly, her heart filled with nothing but hatred for Janet.
She still insisted in her heart that she had been misled by Janet.
But with Janet now acting all generous, all her insistence would seem unreasonable if she expressed it outwardly.
In this circle, what they lacked least was fake friendship.
"Janet, I'm sorry. I wrongly accused you. I was just too anxious," she apologized.
She had no choice but to swallow her anger. She even faked a somewhat stiff smile and tried to ask Janet to stay.
After all, Evelyn and Cordelia hadn't come out from the inner hall yet.
Many people in the outer hall didn't know what had happened in the inner hall.
Marlowe thought that since she had already been so humiliated, she could not allow Janet get away unscathed.
Janet, on her part, naturally didn't want to stay at the scene. No matter how Marlowe and her friends tried to persuade her, she insisted on leaving.
"Janet, if you leave today, I'll take it that you haven't forgiven me. Then I won't think of you for any business collaborations in the future. Besides, I don't think Mr. Hughes will give you any resources either."
Janet understood the threat in Marlowe's words.
The Stone Group controlled most of the resources now, and Evelyn had never liked her, so she couldn't get any benefits from the Stone Group.
Alaric wouldn't care about her either, and Julian hadn't been so much in touch with her lately.
Over the past two months, most of her gigs had been introduced by Marlowe.
Although they weren't big deals, the income was stable.
Hence, right now, she couldn't afford to completely cut ties with Marlowe.
