Chapter 225 In Order to Attract Alaric's Attention, Drag Them Down
Marlowe noticed a hint of hesitation in Janet's eyes, so she took the initiative to link her arm through Janet's.
"Even if you want to leave, you have to wait until after my wedding. You're my bridesmaid."
The other friends also tried to persuade Janet to stay, and in the end, Janet stayed.
She couldn't break away from this circle just yet.
Seeing Janet stay, Marlowe's lips curved into a smile. After a while, everyone started organizing games.
Micah and Marlowe each led a team.
At first, Marlowe's team won more often, but as the penalties became increasingly harsh, Micah's team started taking the game more seriously.
If Marlowe's team lost the game, they had to jump into the pool and perform a sexy dance for everyone.
Janet was wearing a light-colored dress.
If it got wet, the color would become very see-through.
Almost everyone on Marlowe's team had already done a penalty, except Janet who hadn't done a single one yet.
At the crucial moment that would decide victory or defeat, Marlowe made a mistake and ultimately lost the game.
Micah's team started clamoring for Janet to do the penalty.
Janet naturally refused.
From the start of the game, she had never wanted to do this penalty.
"Let's not do this. What I'm wearing today isn't very convenient," she softly declined.
The more she refused, the more excited Micah's team became.
"Just now, no matter what penalty you gave us, we all did it. Finnegan is allergic to mangoes, and you made him eat mango, and he ate it! Now you want to back out?"
Marlowe had kept Janet here specifically to see her embarrassed, so how could she let her off now?
"Janet, it's just dancing in the water, it's not such a big deal as a penalty. Just do it."
"We can't let them think we're backing out."
Janet's expression showed some hesitation.
Two of the groomsmen directly picked Janet up, making a fuss about throwing Janet into the pool.
Marlowe didn't stop them, and naturally the others took their cues from Marlowe's expression.
Marlowe could have clearly won just now, but she deliberately lost, obviously targeting Janet.
Janet was suddenly picked up by two men, her face full of panic.
She saw Alaric being led toward the exit of The Butler Estate, and in her panic, she called out his name.
"Alaric, save me."
The banquet in the inner hall had ended, and many guests were coming out from the inner hall.
Evelyn and Cordelia were talking with Nicole.
Alaric was being surrounded by Floyd and many Ravenshollow businessmen as they walked toward the exit of The Butler Estate.
Everyone wanted to chat with Alaric a bit more during this walk.
Janet's voice suddenly rang out.
Her voice was tense and aggrieved, sounding utterly pitiful.
Nicole was holding Cordelia's hand and talking when she heard this voice. Cordelia looked up and glanced over, seeing Janet being held by two men about to be thrown into the pool.
She instinctively looked toward Alaric ahead.
Alaric's steps didn't pause. He just said something to Floyd, then walked out the main gate of The Butler Estate.
"Floyd, regarding the development project in the western suburbs of Ravenshollow, I'll come to your office another day to discuss it."
"Thank you for your generous hospitality today. I'll take my leave now."
Floyd also heard Janet's voice and looked over there. Seeing the situation, he felt embarrassed.
He had wanted to continue chatting with Alaric, but if he continued to let them act so outrageously, the Butler family would probably become the laughingstock of all Ravenshollow by tomorrow.
"Alright, Mr. Hughes, take care. I'll come find you another day and we can discuss it in detail."
Alaric nodded slightly and left.
The two men holding Janet heard her suddenly scream out Alaric's name and felt panicked, their movements pausing slightly.
Fortunately, Alaric's gaze didn't look their way, so they unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.
Janet watched Alaric leave just like that, and her heart instantly turned cold.
Guests from the inner hall were gradually coming out.
To leave The Butler Estate, they had to pass through the outer hall.
She bit her lip tightly, already prepared to be embarrassed, but the next second, Floyd's furious voice rang out.
"What are you doing?"
Floyd walked over angrily.
The two groomsmen naturally didn't dare continue their nonsense and put Janet down, saying sheepishly.
"Mr. Butler, we were just playing a game. Everyone was willing."
Janet bit her lip tightly, looking toward the main gate.
Although Alaric didn't stop, he still had Floyd come save her.
She knew it—Alaric wasn't that heartless toward her.
Marlowe looked at Janet's pitiful appearance now and felt contemptuous, but thinking of the trouble Janet had just brought her, she secretly gritted her teeth.
She glanced at one of her good friends beside her.
The friend immediately understood what she meant.
"Ms. Martin, how could you disturb the Butler family's distinguished guest? You clearly agreed when we were playing the game. Even if you want to attract Mr. Hughes's attention, you shouldn't frame everyone, right?"
"Making it look like we bullied you—is that even fun?"
Others nodded in agreement.
Janet pressed her lips together, wanting to defend herself, but before she could speak, Floyd said sternly.
"All of you, pack your things and get out of The Butler Estate."
Everyone's faces stiffened, and they looked at Janet with resentful eyes.
Janet's mind was entirely on Alaric at this moment. She bit her lip lightly, no longer defending herself, grabbed her phone, turned around and left The Butler Estate.
Seeing this, the others also left one after another.
Nicole saw that in such a short time, Marlowe had managed to embarrass the Butler family again, and felt a headache coming on.
She sighed softly, looked up at Cordelia, her tone plaintive.
"Ms. Stone, what you said about all professions being equal is right, but their circle is really too toxic. Those despicable schemes and tactics are so embarrassing to watch."
"You can't blame me for not liking them—it's really that they have no sense of boundaries."
Nicole looked troubled.
Cordelia and Evelyn didn't feel it was appropriate to comment on the Butler family's affairs, so they remained quietly silent.
Nicole also knew that Cordelia and Evelyn weren't the type to gossip about other people's family matters, so she smiled and changed the subject.
"I wonder how long Cordelia and Evelyn will be staying in Ravenshollow? Today we didn't host you well—please give us a chance to make it up to you."
Nicole still wanted to set up Cordelia and Eric.
But today Micah and Marlowe had been too embarrassing, so she felt too awkward to bring it up.
Now she could only get Cordelia's contact information and proceed with her plan step by step.
