Chapter 223 Alaric Has Never Treated Her So Roughly
Cordelia hadn't expected to get dragged into something like this.
Today was really not her day.
"Aren't there any cameras in the hallway?"
She responded quietly, not falling into the trap of having to prove her innocence just because of Marlowe's words.
Floyd was furious when he saw that Marlowe dared to disturb the VIP guests in the inner hall over such nonsense, and that her words even seemed to be leading somewhere else.
He suddenly raised his hand and slapped Micah.
"You embarrassment, get out to the outer hall."
Floyd hadn't hit him earlier because he wanted to leave Micah with a shred of dignity, but he never expected Micah to be so clueless about the situation and occasion, making scene after scene.
Floyd rarely used violence when raising his children. Micah and Eric had hardly ever been hit growing up.
Now that Micah had been slapped, he looked up at Floyd in disbelief.
Floyd's face was stern and full of authority, which immediately made Micah not dare to act up anymore.
Evelyn let out a cold laugh, glancing at Janet standing beside Marlowe.
Marlowe and Cordelia had never had any contact before, let alone any grudges.
If Janet wasn't deliberately stirring things up behind this, she absolutely wouldn't believe it.
Her gaze lightly swept over the bracelet on Janet's wrist, and she immediately found it familiar.
She had always had a good memory, and quickly remembered that this was a design she had seen in Alaric's office.
Alaric had once asked her about the details of the bracelet that Cordelia had lost.
The bracelet Cordelia wore was the jewelry their mother had left behind, and Cordelia had always loved it.
The bracelet Janet was wearing was an unfinished version from an incomplete design.
"Marlowe, what you're saying is really interesting. Does walking past your dressing room make someone the thief who stole your necklace?"
"The bracelet on your bridesmaid's wrist looks quite similar to the one my sister wore for many years. By that logic, couldn't I also randomly accuse people?"
When Janet heard Evelyn suddenly mention her, her body stiffened, and her hand couldn't help but tremble slightly. She quickly covered the bracelet on her wrist.
Because she was so nervous, her behavior looked especially guilty.
Evelyn laughed softly and said, "I'm just joking, why are you so nervous?"
"Unless..." She didn't finish her sentence, slightly opening her mouth, then covering her lips with her slender, elegant fingers, leaving everyone's imagination to run wild.
Bruce stood to the side watching.
Evelyn's scheming yet exaggerated expression looked exceptionally cute to him.
As long as it wasn't directed at him, it was all very cute.
Everyone's eyes turned to look at Janet.
Although Janet was tightly covering the bracelet, Alaric still caught a glimpse of it.
He remembered every version of the bracelet design very clearly, so when he saw the bracelet, his deep eyes immediately turned cold, his brows lowered, and his forehead furrowed.
He suddenly remembered what Cordelia had said to him on her birthday.
Thinking back to that scene now, his heart still ached faintly.
So that was it.
Janet also looked at Alaric in panic, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
She was afraid that Alaric would suddenly say something inappropriate at this moment.
She had indeed stolen Alaric's design for this bracelet.
Marlowe also noticed Janet's nervousness, and her expression darkened slightly.
"Janet, what's wrong?"
Under everyone's gaze, Janet took a deep breath, suppressed the panic in her heart, and said calmly.
"Because this bracelet of mine is a knockoff, I didn't want to offend everyone's eyes."
Her expression looked very embarrassed as she said this.
She didn't want to humiliate herself, but if Alaric suddenly reached out to take back the bracelet, that would be when she'd truly lose face.
Hearing this, people's expressions turned mocking.
Marlowe felt like she'd lost face too. After all, Janet was her bridesmaid, and if her bridesmaid was exposed for wearing a fake, her own status would naturally be dragged down with it.
In everyone's eyes, they weren't just mocking Janet for wearing a fake, they were also looking down on her.
In their view, she was of low status, so her social circle was also of low status.
Marlowe had always thought Janet had a very gentle and dignified personality, which was why she made her a bridesmaid, thinking she definitely wouldn't cause any problems.
She never expected to be embarrassed because of Janet.
And Cordelia wasn't just some influencer! She was Evelyn's sister!
Evelyn's reputation was quite prominent in their circle.
After all, on the influencer earnings rankings, the top three were all influencers under the Stone Group's subsidiaries.
The Stone family had sold off their heavy assets back then, traveled light, and invested the most in short video development.
Now the short video app under the Stone Group could be said to be the industry leader.
Those of them in the influencer business naturally had to maintain their relationship with the Stone family to survive.
Marlowe had almost offended Evelyn due to misinformation, and felt very anxious inside.
Now that things had reached this point, if they continued to make a scene, they wouldn't gain anything.
Micah had already annoyed Floyd. If she didn't bow her head and apologize, things would be even more irreversible.
Marlowe bit her lip hard, and after thinking, suddenly dropped to her knees.
"Dad, I'm sorry, Micah and I were wrong."
"I'm sorry, Ms. Stone, I'm sorry everyone."
Micah was stunned when he saw Marlowe suddenly kneel, and wanted to pull Marlowe up, but Marlowe said to him in a low voice.
"Micah, hurry up and apologize to Dad."
Micah's expression froze slightly, hesitating, unable to let go of his pride.
Seeing this, Nicole sighed, naturally not wanting everyone to misunderstand that they really had mistreated Micah and Marlowe.
"No need to apologize, Marlowe, get up quickly."
As Nicole spoke, she walked to Marlowe's side and gave her a pull.
Floyd didn't want them to embarrass themselves here anymore, and said sternly, "Go back to your outer hall."
Marlowe took the opportunity to stand up and pulled Micah away.
Janet also followed closely behind to leave. She kept her head down, and just as she was about to walk past Alaric, she heard his cold voice.
"Leave it behind."
Janet's expression stiffened. She wanted to quickly escape from here, but for some reason, her steps involuntarily stopped.
She looked up at Alaric, her eyes showing a bit of grievance, "Alaric."
She had already humiliated herself just now, but she didn't expect that Alaric still wouldn't let her go.
She bit her lip hard, stubbornly covering her wrist.
"Does it have to be like this?"
Alaric's eyes narrowed coldly, radiating strong pressure, "Hand it over."
Janet didn't dare to continue the standoff, and could only lower her head to unfasten the bracelet on her hand, but she was too nervous, so for a moment she couldn't undo the clasp.
Alaric, with a cold face, reached out and yanked it. The bracelet immediately fell off her wrist, and Janet felt a sharp pain on her wrist.
Her wrist had been scratched by the bracelet. Alaric had never treated her so roughly before.
Janet immediately felt so wronged that she wanted to cry.
