Chapter 124 Does Janet Have Such a Great Attraction to Him?
Robert noticed that Alaric had been silent for a while, so he immediately said, "Mr. Hughes, don't worry. I'll do my best to convince Ms. Martin to come forward and testify against Wyatt."
As soon as he finished speaking, Alaric's deep voice responded almost immediately.
"No need."
"If she wants to forgive him, then let her forgive him."
"We won't pursue Wyatt's violations for now either."
Robert was surprised when he heard this.
They already had evidence of Wyatt's violations. Even without Janet coming forward to testify, they could still send Wyatt to prison.
For business crimes, he'd probably be released after about five years in prison.
If Janet was willing to testify, the sentence would definitely be longer.
"Mr. Hughes."
Robert wanted to say something, but then thought that Alaric might have other plans, so he paused.
"Are you planning to use Ms. Martin as a shield?"
As Alaric's personal assistant, Robert naturally knew who Alaric cared about most.
Janet was just a thing of the past.
Alaric had no place for Janet in his heart anymore.
But because Janet had been marketing herself all these years, many people mistakenly believed that Alaric still had deep feelings for her.
Now that Janet had chosen to forgive Wyatt because he was Vivian's uncle, Alaric was naturally going along with it.
"Isn't this what she wanted - to forgive him?"
Alaric's voice was emotionless and cold.
Hearing this, Robert didn't ask any more questions. "Okay, I understand."
Alaric gave a brief response and hung up.
During Janet's hospital stay, Alaric never came to visit. Instead, Robert came very often.
Cordelia ran into Robert almost every day.
Robert was Alaric's trusted aide, so his presence represented Alaric.
Being mentally prepared, Cordelia didn't feel too disappointed.
However, Robert looked very uncomfortable every time he saw Cordelia. He wanted to explain to her but didn't know how to start.
When it was time to get off work, Cordelia walked into the elevator and headed to the underground parking garage.
Carl was already waiting by Cordelia's car. When he saw her coming down, he forced a smile and walked toward her.
"Ms. Stone, off work?"
Cordelia nodded slightly, polite but somewhat distant. "I heard Ms. Lewis has been discharged. Who is Mr. Lewis here to visit now?"
She had learned from Hannah a few days ago that one of his cousins was hospitalized.
That's why Carl had been coming to the hospital so often lately.
But this morning, that person had already been discharged. Yet Carl was still at the hospital, so Cordelia naturally understood his intention.
When Cordelia questioned him, Carl's expression showed no embarrassment. Instead, he looked completely sincere.
"I've been waiting here especially for you."
Cordelia's expression remained calm as she looked at him quietly, waiting for him to continue.
Carl felt uncomfortable under her calm gaze, and the gentle smile on his face showed some cracks.
But he still pushed on.
"I've known Ms. Stone for so many years, but I don't think I've ever treated you to a meal. I wonder if Ms. Stone is free tonight? I've already booked a restaurant."
Carl thought that by saying he had already booked a restaurant, Cordelia would feel too awkward to refuse.
But Cordelia just glanced at the time and politely declined.
"Sorry, I already have plans."
Carl paused, his eyes showing some urgency.
"Ms. Stone, you're not just making up a poor excuse because you don't want to have dinner with me, are you?"
Cordelia's gem-like eyes flashed with embarrassment as she asked in surprise, "Is it really that poor?"
Carl's expression froze slightly. So she really was making up an excuse about having plans.
Cordelia smiled faintly and looked at him seriously. "Mr. Lewis, I really don't have time. I'm sorry."
After saying this softly, she opened the car door and got in.
Carl watched Cordelia get in the car, feeling unwilling to give up. He moved closer to her car.
"Ms. Stone, I haven't done anything to make you dislike me, have I?"
Cordelia shook her head. "Mr. Lewis is overthinking it."
Carl felt relieved after getting Cordelia's response, and a smile returned to his lips.
"Since Ms. Stone isn't free today, I'll ask you out another day."
Cordelia didn't answer and started the car to leave.
Carl really hadn't done anything to make Cordelia dislike him, but disliking someone doesn't need a reason.
Cordelia just didn't like Carl. She even felt his gentleness was too deliberate, so she had no interest in him at all.
She drove out of the garage, completely unaware that Alaric's car was parked in a corner of the garage.
He was sitting in the back seat, expressionlessly watching Cordelia talk with Carl.
It wasn't until Cordelia's car left that his tightly clenched jaw relaxed slightly.
Carl failed to get Cordelia to agree, looking somewhat defeated. His expression darkened, showing a sinister look, completely different from his gentle, refined appearance earlier.
If Cordelia continued to keep her distance from him, he would have to think of another way!
Robert finished visiting Janet upstairs and came back down to the car. Seeing Alaric sitting in the car deep in thought, he immediately opened the driver's door and got in quietly.
Alaric in the back seat suddenly spoke, his voice low.
"Is the Lewis family very idle lately?"
Hearing this, Robert answered seriously, "Carl does have some ability. He somehow got investment from somewhere and plans to take a gamble to lead the Lewis family out of their predicament."
"Ability?" Alaric snorted. "Then I'd like to see just how capable he really is."
Hearing this, Robert's eyes flashed with surprise.
But thinking about how Carl had designs on Cordelia at Luminary Ventures Group's anniversary celebration, it was natural that Alaric wanted to punish him.
Robert nodded. "Understood."
Alaric's eyes were cold as he leaned back on the seat. On his phone was a group message from Bruce.
Bruce: [Meet at Enchanted Valley Resort tonight.]
Sebastian and Jack replied almost simultaneously.
[Got it.]
[Got it.]
Julian: [On my way.]
Seeing Julian's reply, Bruce immediately typed out a message.
[@Julian, don't you dare bring Janet with you, or I won't be able to explain it to Evelyn tomorrow.]
Julian: [Okok, you should be saying that to Alaric.]
Janet was injured and hospitalized, and Alaric had Robert visit the hospital every day.
Janet's management company had been building up this topic.
Julian had been following it, so he knew everything right away.
When Bruce saw this message, he was stunned for a long time. After a while, Alaric's phone received a private message.
[Are you mixed up with Janet again?]
Alaric frowned. In everyone's eyes, did Janet really have that much appeal to him?
Could it be that Cordelia thought the same way?
