Chapter 123 Her Injuries Are Not Serious
Taylor was driving up ahead. She glanced at the side mirror and noticed Alaric's car had been following them the whole time, so she couldn't help but speed up.
Cordelia sensed the change in speed and tightened her arms slightly around Amber.
"What's wrong?"
She asked quietly.
Taylor answered softly, "Mr. Hughes's car is behind us."
Hearing this, Cordelia turned to look back and indeed saw Alaric's car right behind them. No matter how Taylor changed routes, his car kept following at a steady pace.
She rubbed her temples and said in an extremely calm voice after settling down.
"Don't worry about him."
With Cordelia's words, Taylor stopped worrying and slowed down.
Just as they were about to reach The Stone Manor, Alaric's car suddenly turned around and drove away.
At the entrance of The Stone Manor.
Taylor stopped the car, then got out to open the door for Cordelia.
As Cordelia got out, she couldn't help but glance behind her, but didn't see Alaric's car following.
Perhaps Alaric wasn't following her from the start - she was just overthinking.
Taylor naturally noticed Cordelia's glance back at the road. She had already noticed Alaric's car had left.
Cordelia probably still had feelings for Alaric in her heart, which was why she had expectations.
"Ms. Stone."
Taylor began softly, but before she could finish, Cordelia forced a faint smile.
Her smile was light as she quietly interrupted, "Thank you for your trouble, Taylor. It's getting late, I won't keep you."
"You're too kind, Ms. Stone. It was just on my way." Taylor responded politely to Cordelia's courtesy, while seeing Cordelia into The Stone Manor.
Allegra had come home early. Seeing Cordelia return holding Amber, she immediately came forward to help.
Allegra carried Amber upstairs while Cordelia politely saw Taylor out.
As Taylor got in her car, she could still see Cordelia standing at the entrance of The Stone Manor.
Looking at Cordelia's dignified, gentle, and refined appearance, Taylor really couldn't understand why Alaric had fallen for Janet and divorced Cordelia.
After seeing Taylor off, Cordelia returned inside.
She walked into the bedroom where Allegra had already given Amber a bath.
Amber was now sitting obediently on her little sofa, holding a bottle in her hands, drinking her formula.
Allegra was beside her, drying her hair.
Seeing Amber being so well-behaved, the gloom in Cordelia's heart completely disappeared. She walked over to Amber, crouched down, and reached out to pinch Amber's little cheek.
The faint irritation deep in her heart was healed.
The next day, she returned to the hospital.
At the hospital entrance, she ran into Hannah who was getting off work.
Hannah had been on duty at the hospital last night. Seeing Cordelia coming to work, she walked over and grabbed Cordelia's hand.
"Janet was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment last night."
Cordelia raised an eyebrow. Thinking about how Alaric's car had followed them almost to The Stone Manor's entrance last night before suddenly turning around, she said softly.
"Alaric brought her?"
Hannah paused, staring at Cordelia. "You already knew?"
Cordelia smiled and shook her head. "Not really."
"But I could guess."
Hannah looked at her relaxed state, truly not taking Alaric to heart, and felt relieved.
She patted Cordelia's shoulder. "You've let go."
Cordelia just smiled lightly, then looked down at the time, said goodbye to Hannah, and entered the hospital.
Janet had been brought in for emergency treatment last night, so she was staying in the emergency department, but under another doctor's care.
When the department doctors did their rounds in the morning, Cordelia was among them.
Janet was lying in the hospital bed with a neck brace on.
Two assistants were with her.
When she saw the doctors coming in for rounds, Janet immediately spotted Cordelia among the group of doctors.
"Dr. Stone."
She proactively greeted her with a smile, though speaking pulled at her neck, making her expression quite uncomfortable.
Cordelia nodded slightly, her expression normal, as always.
The doctors briefly checked Janet's condition, then left her room.
Cordelia maintained all her composure perfectly, without any sign of abnormality, making it impossible for anyone to detect any of her emotions.
After rounds, Cordelia volunteered to go to the emergency room.
Work in the emergency room was busy and tiring, but since Cordelia volunteered to go, naturally no one stopped her.
In the emergency room, Cordelia didn't have to see Janet and wouldn't have any contact with her, avoiding some trivial issues.
After work, Cordelia stretched, went to the locker room to change out of her work clothes, said goodbye to her colleagues, and left the hospital.
She walked to the parking garage and was about to get in her car when a silver-white sedan stopped beside her.
"Ms. Stone."
The window rolled down, and Carl's smiling face came into Cordelia's view.
Seeing Carl, Cordelia greeted him politely. "Mr. Lewis."
Carl really wanted to immediately find a parking spot and chat with Cordelia for a while, but the parking garage was full.
"The hospital parking is always tight, Mr. Lewis, take my spot."
Cordelia chatted with him while getting in her car.
Carl had come to the hospital specifically to run into Cordelia, but unexpectedly, Cordelia didn't care at all about why he was at the hospital. She simply got in her car and drove away, even thoughtfully giving him her parking spot.
Looking at the now-empty parking spot, Carl's expression was quite unpleasant, but he still drove in and parked.
Cordelia drove out of the hospital parking garage. As she passed the gate, she noticed the car ahead of her was Alaric's.
Her gaze paused, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
After Alaric's car left, she followed out, then turned in a different direction from Alaric's car at the intersection ahead.
Robert was driving while reporting work to Alaric.
He didn't notice Cordelia's car passing by behind them at all.
"Ms. Martin's injuries aren't very serious, and her emotions are stable. She just won't talk about what happened last night. I learned from the police station that Ms. Martin seems willing to forgive Wyatt."
Wyatt was formerly a supervisor at a branch company under the Hughes Group.
Alaric discovered he was in close contact with a competing company, and during that time, the branch's plans and data kept getting leaked, so Alaric personally fired him.
The Hughes Group had been busy with affairs recently, so they hadn't pursued his responsibility.
Somehow Wyatt found out that the Hughes Group had investigated evidence of his crimes and was going to hold him accountable, so he chose to kidnap Janet to threaten Alaric.
When Alaric arrived, Wyatt had already escaped.
But he left a message for Alaric, saying that if he continued to investigate, the next moment he would only be able to collect Janet's body.
