Chapter 125 He Can't Handle Cordelia
For some reason, the urge to see Cordelia suddenly grew wildly in his mind.
"Go to The Stone Manor."
Alaric ordered coldly.
Upon hearing this, Robert immediately started the car and headed to The Stone Manor.
He kept increasing his speed along the way. When they reached the entrance of The Stone Manor, he could see from a distance that Cordelia was standing at the door.
She was holding Amber's hand. A black business car slowly stopped in front of them, and Dominic got out of the car, heading straight for the two of them.
He first opened his arms and hugged Cordelia, then hugged Amber.
Robert slowed down the car, glanced up at the rearview mirror, and reminded softly, "Mr. Hughes."
Alaric naturally saw the scene in the distance too. His face darkened, and a cold gleam flashed through his deep eyes.
"Turn around, go to Enchanted Valley Resort."
His voice was low, with almost no hesitation.
Robert knew that in this situation, even if Alaric went over, it would only make things more awkward, so he found a suitable place to turn around.
Cordelia had lived in Astoria for three years and had long gotten used to hugging, as it was just like a handshake there—a social courtesy.
After Dominic released Amber, he took out gifts for them from the trunk.
Cordelia then noticed a car turning around in the distance.
Because the light was dim, Cordelia couldn't see the license plate.
The only place accessible from this road was The Stone Manor, and further ahead was the Diaz family's residence.
When she came back, she had seen The Diaz Manor hosting guests, so she just assumed it was a guest of the Diaz family who had taken a wrong turn.
Dominic placed the gift in Cordelia's hands. Seeing Cordelia staring into the distance, he followed her gaze.
Alaric's car had already left, so Dominic didn't see anything. Cordelia also withdrew her gaze and looked at the gift wrapped in kraft paper in her hands, raising her eyebrows slightly.
"Don't tell me you actually found that book for me?"
Hearing Cordelia's voice, Dominic also withdrew his gaze and smiled, "I went to the library yesterday and happened to come across it."
His tone was casual, but Cordelia knew he must have put in a lot of effort to find this book.
After all, when she was in Astoria, she had searched several libraries and couldn't find it.
She hadn't expected Dominic to still remember this.
This medical book was already out of print and contained a lot of valuable knowledge. Cordelia had always wanted to get her hands on it.
But the people she knew who had this book were unwilling to sell it, wanting to keep it for their own collection.
"That's so thoughtful of you."
Dominic had always been particularly thoughtful toward her and Amber.
Cordelia couldn't help but feel a bit guilty.
"When you go back this time, did you meet the girl Mrs. Gray arranged for you on a blind date?"
Her voice was gentle, as if chatting casually.
"Mrs. Gray sent me the girl's photo. She's very pretty, and Mrs. Gray said she has a great personality too. You should try getting to know her."
Dominic handed Amber's gift to her. Hearing Cordelia's words, he paused for a moment.
"I'm only staying in the country for two days this time. I'll get to know her better when I return to Astoria the day after tomorrow."
Hearing Dominic's words, Cordelia nodded slightly.
After Amber received the gift from Dominic, she sweetly thanked him.
"Thank you, Dominic."
Dominic rubbed Amber's head, "You're welcome."
After saying this, he took Amber's hand and was about to walk inside.
But Amber was too eager to unwrap her gift.
When she opened it and saw it was a music box, she smiled happily.
"The gift Dominic gave me is the same as the one Mr. Hughes gave me."
When Dominic heard Amber say "Mr. Hughes," a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes.
Amber didn't know Alaric's name and couldn't answer for a moment. She looked up at Cordelia for help, "Mommy."
Cordelia pressed her red lips together lightly and smiled faintly, "That's Alaric."
Dominic paused.
"He's met Amber?"
Cordelia nodded, "Yes, he has."
Dominic fell silent.
Since Amber was calling Alaric "Mr. Hughes," it was obvious that father and daughter hadn't acknowledged each other yet.
Amber couldn't wait to put the music box Dominic gave her together with the one Alaric gave her, so she ran straight into the house.
Dominic watched Amber go inside, then looked at Cordelia and said in a low voice, "He's accepted that he's not Amber's father?"
Hearing this, Cordelia nodded gently.
"Yes."
"He believes he's not Amber's father."
Dominic was momentarily speechless.
Cordelia smiled faintly, "He probably never thought Amber could be his child."
Dominic could see the bitterness in Cordelia's smile. He frowned slightly, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Cordelia quickly adjusted her mood and looked at Dominic, "It's okay."
"Even without him, Amber is very happy."
With so many people loving her, Amber had never asked her for a father.
Perhaps she didn't have any concept of what a father was yet.
But next year she would be three, and at three she'd go to kindergarten. The other children in class would all have fathers, and they'd definitely talk about family structure. Amber would have thoughts about it then.
Cordelia sighed, suppressing the worry deep in her heart.
Dominic looked at Cordelia and saw the heaviness in her eyes, so he said softly.
"There will be a solution when the time comes."
Cordelia nodded gently.
The two walked inside.
Donald was making coffee.
Evelyn was sitting on the sofa on the phone.
Dominic first greeted Donald, then greeted Evelyn.
"Evelyn."
Evelyn nodded and responded, "Make yourself at home."
Dominic nodded.
Bruce was on the phone with Evelyn, reporting that he was playing cards for fun at Enchanted Valley Resort tonight. Hearing a man's voice on Evelyn's end, he immediately asked, "Who's that?"
Evelyn answered casually, "Dominic."
Bruce's grip on his phone tightened slightly, "Why is he back again?"
Evelyn raised her eyebrows. Without directly answering Bruce's question, she said calmly, "You play your cards. I won't disturb you."
She hung up decisively after speaking.
Bruce's expression immediately stiffened.
Sebastian and Jack were sitting beside Bruce. They glanced at him and said in a low voice, "What, still can't handle Evelyn?"
"Come on, who can't handle what?" As Bruce spoke, Alaric walked in from outside.
He glanced at Alaric and said leisurely.
"The one who can't handle things is him."
