My muscles were burning as I pushed the heavy weight again and again none stop liking the pain.
It made me forget other things, the stress from work, Damon and Ares.
I finished my last set and sat up on the machine breathing hard as sweat dripped down my face.
I looked around the gym it was empty
I've been coming here for a week always at this time I told myself it was for a good workout but a small stupid part of me hoped to see Ares.
He was usually at the gym by 2am... The usual training routine but he no longer showed since the incident.
He was avoiding m me at all costs It was so obvious.
It made me so angry and desperate.
I got up and walked to the water cooler grabbing a bottle of cold water I opened it and started drinking.
I gulped it down fast the cold water felt good on my throat and just then the gym door opened and Ares walked in.
He was wearing a tight black t-shirt and gym shorts looking so dominating and devishly handsome like always, his eyes roamed around and stop when they landed on me.
"I heard you are hiring Damon," he said. "Is it that true?"
Taking aback by his sudden enquiry, I put my hands on my hips. "Yes it's true. He starts on Monday.. why?"
Ares took a step closer to me. "Why? Why would you do that? Have you lost your mind?"
"That's none of your business," I snapped.
"Tell me why!" he demanded, his voice getting louder.
"Because I want to!" I yelled back. "He owes me money! This is how he will pay it back by working for me. He will have to listen to me every day and I want to see him suffer!"
Ares shook his head as his jaw was tight.
"This is a mistake. A huge mistake, you can't let that man back into your life. Even for work It is dangerous and stupid."
"Don't you dare call me stupid!" I shouted.
"You don't get to have an opinion! You don't get to care! Where were you for the past few weeks? Huh? You ignored me, you walked right past me like I was nothing... Like nothing ever happened between the two of us.... look Ares, you've made it very clear that I am just your boss and you are just my bodyguard! So do your damn job and protect me from real threats and stay out of my personal decisions!"
His eyes flashed with a fire I hadn't seen in so long. "You are being a foolish stubborn woman!"
"And you are an overbearing cold bastard!" I screamed as we both were breathing heavily standing inches from each other.
"I am your boss Ares!" I said, pointing a finger at his chest. "You will do as I say and I say I am working with Damon and there's nothing you can do about that. So you can fuck off and respect yourself and stay out of it!"
That was the last straw.
He moved so fast and grabbed my arms and pushed me back causing my back hit the cold gym wall.
I gasped.
He was pinning me there his body was pressed against mine I could feel the heat coming off him and his face was right in front of mine.
"Let me go!" I hissed trying to push him away but who was I kidding, he was too strong.
"Listen to me Alyssa," he said his voice a dangerous whisper. "You are playing with fire...You have no idea what you're getting yourself into, I will not stand by and watch him hurt you again."
"I can handle Damon!" I said.
"You think you can," Ares snarled. "But you can't you are doing this for revenge It is making you blind."
"What do you care?" I whispered my voice shaking now.
He leaned closer his lips were almost touching my ear I could feel his breath on my skin.
"I am warning you princess," he said each word slow and clear. "If he hurts you... if he even looks at you the wrong way... I will break him. I will not follow your rules. I will not be a good bodyguard. I will end him. Do you understand me?"
I stared into his dark angry eyes as my heart pounded in my chest. I was furious at him for manhandling me but a part of me... a stupid weak part of me... felt a thrill at his words.
At the possessiveness in his voice.
I didn't say anything I just stared at him as my lips quivered.
I hated that he still had this effect on me.
