Chapter 58 CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
Chapter 58 CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT
Alyssa
I stared out the window of my tall office building letting my thoughts run haywire with a lot that has been happening these days.
A soft knock on the door broke my quiet moment, fighting back a hiss I mumble a "Come in," not turning around.
I heard the door open and close knowing very well it had to be Marcus.
"Alyssa," Marcus calls out his tune careful. I didn't like that tone. It usually meant bad news.
What now?
I finally turned to face him he was standing in front of my big desk holding a file looking nervous.
"What is it Marcus?" I asked as I walked over and sat in my large leather chair. "Just tell me what now is the problem"
He took a deep breath. "It's about Damon's company," he said. "I spoke with them this morning."
"And?" I asked my voice sharp. "Do they have my money?"
Marcus shifted his weight. "They... they can't pay the debt not right now. They are asking for more time. They are proposing we give them another chance."
Another chance.
Those two words were like a match thrown on gasoline inside me, Damon has a way of running my days even without being present.
I stood up so fast my chair rolled back and hit the wall.
"I don't care!" I snapped as the words exploded from me. "I don't care about their chances, I don't care about their problems! I want my money back and I certainly do not care how to get my money back. Do you understand? I just need my money back!"
Marcus didn't flinch by now he was used to my temper.
He just waited for me to finish.
"I understand Alyssa," he said his voice still calm. "But if they have no money, you can't get blood from a stone. There might be... another way."
I crossed my arms. "What other way? What could they possibly offer?"
Marcus placed the file on my desk. "Damon himself he is still a brilliant strategist and you more than anybody know that." He paused staring at me for a second, "He could work for you. He could work off the debt."
I stared at Marcus unable to believe what I was hearing.
"Work for me?" I repeated my voice a low whisper. "You want my ex-husband the man who nearly drove me bankrupt with his lies to work in my company? In my space? Are you insane?"
"It is a way to get your money's worth," Marcus reasoned. "And it would punish him more than any lawsuit... Think about it Alyssa, he would have to answer to you everyday. You would be his boss."
The idea was crazy.
Working with Damon again? Seeing his face every day? It was a terrible, horrible no-good idea.
But then... the word "punish" echoed in my mind.
I pictured Damon here under my thumb, having to follow my rules. Having to call me "Ms. White." He had taken so much from me.
Maybe this was better than just getting a check.
A slow cold smile spread across my face.
"You're right," I said my voice quiet and dangerous. "He would hate that he would absolutely hate taking orders from me."
"So you agree?" Marcus asked.
I nodded slowly. "Yes! Set it up. He starts on Monday as a junior analyst. In the open-plan office. I want everyone to see him."
"Consider it done," Marcus said giving me a small nod and turned to leave my office.
As the door closed behind him I sat back down.
I'm not sure how Marcus came up with such idea but I loved it.
I was going to make his life a living hell I was going to give him the worst tasks tham the ones he gave me when I worked for him.
I was going to criticize his every move and make sure he regretted the day he ever thought he could betray me.
He would work for every single penny he owed me.
My mind was spinning with plans with cruel ideas as a small smile spread across my lips, a first real one since after the incident with Ares
Fuck!
Ares.
Just thinking his name made my chest feel tight Ares who had been so warm so intense with me over the months was now so extremely cold and distant.
He would walk by me in the hallway and look right through me as if I were a ghost.
He wouldn't even look at me.
Why? What had I done? The question bothered me more than I wanted to admit It ate at me this coldness from him.
Damon's betrayal was a fire I could fight but Ares's distance was like a deep silent ice and I didn't know how to break it.
And I shouldn't even be feeling this way about Ares... It's like he said, he's only just a bodyguard to me and thats how things should remain.
But everyday I'm masturbate myself with the thoughts of him... I wanted him so bad, the distance was killing me day by day.
Fucking asshole.
I shook my head trying to clear it I couldn't think about Ares now he already made things clear.
Letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding I proceeded to answering emails now with the thoughts of destroying Damon piece by piece, and I was going to enjoy every single minute of it.
