Chapter 96 Choose
His reason for letting her live with him was that he feared she might harm herself, and with Oriana around, he thought the two of them would be good companions.
However, as it stands now, all those are just mere expectations that Delanie was not going to fulfill. Therefore, he decided to make things clear.
“Lani, time after work is for my wife. Please be mindful of that, and bear in mind that we never attended a honeymoon. We both need this time together.”
Delanie’s eyes were moist with unshed tears as she looked out of the window. The VIP parking lot was limited to only the Dawson family and high-ranking board members, so the area was quiet.
“So what? You two just fuck without eating?” Ever since finding out that Roger wasn’t related to her by blood, she imagined all sorts of thoughts concerning him, and knowing only Karen was receiving that, stung like a bitch.
They even missed breakfast, and none of them seemed hungry. It was as if the only food they ate was love.
“Lani, I’m sorry, but you’ll have to stay out of everything concerning my marriage,” Roger said seriously. Delanie turned to face him, and as their eyes bore into each other’s, things were made clear. “There are things you’ll never understand until you get married.”
Delanie’s lips pursed together, but she didn’t utter a word. This wasn’t over, and she knew exactly how to make Roger divorce Karen and marry her.
After all, he cared too much about her to see her hurt. The moment she reached her office, she sent a message to Karen. ‘I can accept you having my man if you give me Wade’s number.’
Karen was in the middle of a very important meeting when the message dropped on her phone. A strange coldness froze her heart for a moment before she forwarded the message to Roger and continued her meeting as if nothing had happened.
She bottled up her emotions to put on that calm facade because there was just so much, she wanted to tell Delanie at that moment.
In Roger’s office, he felt a sudden tightness in his chest as memories rushed through his mind when he read the text message. Delanie could have a relationship with anyone, but not Wade.
These were issues that should arise during the teenage face but it was happening now, during adulthood.
“Sir, the senior managers are ready for the meeting,” Sasha, Giovanni’s secretary, said to Roger from the entrance. Roger was briefly arrested from his thoughts, glancing at her momentarily.
“Sure," but his attention was caught by her outfit, and he wondered why his father always allowed things like this.
His marriage was still very fresh, and he wouldn’t want Karen to walk in and be swayed with discomfort.
"And wear something decent before you attend," he said seriously. Sasha froze at the entrance. "But I don’t have anything else to wear."
Roger was indifferent to her hypocrisy. "Not my business, and you have thirty minutes to make it or three days suspension without pay."
There were ways around these things, and he figured that Sasha was just being incoherent. His ultimatum got her thinking cap on. "Sir, I’ll order something online."
Roger did not respond, only texting his wife. ‘I’m sorry for everything, but don’t worry. I’ll handle it.’
‘I know,’ Karen responded via text.
Roger went to Delanie’s office right after his meeting with the senior managers, though he was supposed to be at the Davis Group straight away.
Delanie was upset when Roger began to make things clear. "I saw the message you sent to my wife, Lani, but I have to make something clear. You can date anyone, and I mean anyone, but most certainly not Wade."
First of all, Delanie was upset about Karen routing her out, but Roger’s anger was exactly what she expected. "Well, you have no right to meddle in my relationship affairs, just as you told me to stay out of your marriage."
Roger’s fingers balled together, but he took a deep breath to calm his raging anger. Walking towards her desk, he sat at the edge of it and turned sideways to her.
Love oozed out of him in a way she never saw before when he spoke, but again, it wasn’t what she wanted from him. "Lani, I love you, but please trust me when I tell you that you have to stay away from Wade."
There were histories untold, and he didn’t want to go into all that. Yet, Delanie seemed to be getting close to what her heart desired the most.
The vulnerability in Roger’s eyes spoke louder, and she was bent on using it to her advantage. Rising from her swivel chair, she gazed into his warm eyes and challenged him. "It’s either you, or Wade, so choose.”
