Chapter 70 A cyber terrorist
“They want to buy me for two million," Karen said with annoyance. After everything that had happened that day, she was extremely tired, but thanks to the coffee she had after lunch, energy was slowly returning to her body.
"Have you responded to them already?" Roger wanted to do so on her behalf, but she was too fast. "I told them off, and he sent another virus, but I already dealt with it."
Roger paused for a second to digest all she had said before he continued with what he was doing.
Karen was even better than his former senior system engineer, whom he was paying millions per annum, and he wondered how long she had had this skill. Was there more to her, or was it his father's doing all this while?
Roger had the experience and expertise, whereas Karen had the speed in implementing whatever coding he wanted done.
It was as if they had been doing this together for years, whereas this was their first time in this situation. "I have a lot of questions for you, kitten, but let me finish. I'm at the most critical point of developing this game."
Karen leaned in and peeked at his laptop, her face turning red with anger. "Are you kidding me? You are playing some kind of game when we are in a heated moment?"
Roger chuckled. "I have to test what I produce. Only by doing so would I know where it falls short."
Taking a deep breath, Karen raised her brows. "I can't believe you just developed this game. My hubby is a genius," she said proudly. Roger smirked, and though he was focused on what he was doing, he still asked, "Does that mean you won't leave me anymore?"
"Well, we are still legally married, so I can claim you as my husband, but whether or not I would stay is totally dependent on you."
Roger didn't know whether to cry or laugh. He had practically done everything in his power to show her how much he loved her, and yet he had to do more?
His brain could not think of anything else right now, as the programming was nearing its end when Dahlia opened the door and entered with some files.
“The team is excited about their imminent victory. There are still three hours left until the deadline, and they believe they are seventy percent done with the game. I also heard that you managed to handle a deadly virus simultaneously."
With a scoff, Roger responded, "How did they figure out it was me?"
Dahlia's head dropped. "I told them," she murmured. Roger wasn't pleased, but he wasn't angry either. "That information should stay within the company. The game is more enjoyable when the creator remains in the shadows."
Dahlia agreed but was surprised when her boss mentioned, "However, I'm not in charge of cybersecurity. Max and Ryan still need to be replaced."
He wasn't planning to burden themselves with this responsibility, but he was willing to pay well for the right candidates chosen by HR.
"If I may ask, and I promise to keep it confidential, who is this cyber terrorist we are discussing?"
At the mention of a terrorist, Karen's expression hardened. She never expected to be labeled as such for her good deeds, but an idea struck her.
"What makes you think he or she is a cyber terrorist?" Roger inquired. Dahlia smiled.
"According to the hackers, they feel like they are on the brink of destruction, but something new always emerges. They believe that this person could retaliate and destroy them if provoked. That's when I assured them not to worry, and that it was you."
Now both Roger and Karen understood the direction of the conversation, and Roger couldn't contain his pride in his wife's capabilities.
"Well, my wife is the cyber terrorist you're referring to."
Dahlia's astonishment made Karen shyly look away. She struggled to downplay the situation. "It's nothing. Don't mind him, and you look exhausted. You should go home and rest."
Everyone was excited but no one could leave with the job undone.
"Oh no, we've all decided to order some clothes. We can't go home and return to work the next day, so we'll just sleep here. Should I order clothes for you? Every washroom is stocked with everything else we'll need."
Karen hadn't considered that option, but recalling her pending exams, it seemed like a perfect solution though she missed her orchid garden at home.
"It's a bit unusual, but I'd appreciate that," she replied, just as Roger let out a sigh. "Finally, it's done."
"Great. I'll go send the renewal contract now. It's all set up already." Her phone beeped, and her excitement soared. Silent Chase is not giving up. They said what they are producing will still be the best, even though they've failed to slow us down," she read from the cyber group chat.
"That means they are still in touch with my employees and might try to poach more," Roger hinted. Karen smiled faintly. This was her time to put her final plans into action.
"I think it's time to send the surprise I've prepared for them."
When Roger saw what she was talking about, his jaw dropped. "Girl, you are indeed a cyber terrorist."
