Chapter 69 Regret

Chapter 69 Regret
At Silent Chase Corporation, Brad had a smug smile on his face as he sipped the coffee in his hand, his long legs resting on his desk leisurely.

“Roger Dawson, the CEO of RD Group, my foot. Just wait until I slowly bring down the RD Group. Not only will I steal your game branch, but I will also slowly move into other areas.

Very soon, I will become the President of Silent Chase, and Tonia will regret dumping me to run into your arms.”

His expectations were disrupted by the ringing of his phone. “Brad, you said these are the best of RD Group’s game branch, but who are Terror D2 and DK-1?” His new boss asked, his anger evident.

Unease engulfed Brad. He had no idea what his boss was talking about but knew someone who could give him the necessary information.

“Sir, just give me time. As soon as I uncover their identity, we can poach them as well. Max and Ryan are the best, and we already have them,” relayed but did not sound convincing enough.

“If what you say is true, then why is our team having a tough time battling them?”

“Please give it time. Max and Ryan only began working today,” Brad pointed out, but his new boss was not a patient man.

“I pay you a lot of money to get the work done, and it doesn’t matter when they start. The game must be ready before midnight, and I’m not accepting excuses.”

Brad was sweating like a fish out of water. He had to find a way to poach both Terror D2 and DK-1, so he hurried to the game center to inquire from Max and Ryan. “Hey, do you have any idea who Terror D2 and DK-1 are? I want to poach them too.”

If he could poach those two, then the RD Group would begin its fall from grace to grass. Roger would realize that it would have been best to leave the company in the hands of his father.

“Terror D2 has been a mystery, though most of the programming at the RD Group had been done by him. He was never on the payroll, and we were never able to uncover his identity,” Ryan explained, and Brad was losing it.

“What? You mean most of the programming wasn’t done by you? What about the other?” This was the reason he poached them and yet, the purpose was not fulfilled.

“Most of the programming was done by me according to Terror D2’s script. He or she usually handled the final authorization.”

Brad felt like his world was crumbling. All along, everyone thought Ryan was the genius, whereas he was living under someone else’s shadow.

Well, there was still hope, and he took advantage of it. “Can you tell me who the other person is?”

“Don Gio had him or her perform some tasks, but he made the payments himself. It never passed through the company,” he shrugged as he analyzed the situation.

Realizing that he had been trapped by his own words, he grew slightly nervous. All these years, he felt like the best due to his position at the RD-Group but was now realizing he wasn’t self-reliant.

Terror D2 was better than him, but only Don Gio would know how to contact him, and knowing Don’s position, Silent Chase did not stand a chance at getting Terror D2’s contact.

“How much are you willing to offer DK-1?” He asked, hoping the money would solve the problem. Brad made a few calls and smiled, “Boss is willing to pay two million.”

Ryan smiled and put the message across, but the response was prompt. ‘Even for a billion, you can’t have me, punk.’

“How rude? It’s as if I upset him or something. Perhaps I should send a stronger virus,” Ryan said in annoyance. Things were not looking good for Brad, and his boss was already calling him on the phone.

“Did you get him?”

“No sir, he won’t work for us for even a billion,” Brad said honestly, unable to think of any other solution.

“You claimed this team is the best so fix it. If we don’t secure the deal with Freddie’s Games, not only you but the whole of your team will be fired,” He raged. Brad was anxious.

“But you can’t do that, they left their jobs for yours because you promised to make them board members.”

“Well, that can only happen if they deliver. You don’t think I pluck money from a sycamore tree, do you?”

Brad’s eyes were red as the realization hit home. His new boss was only interested in profits, but not the well-being of his employees.

“Guys, we shall lose our jobs if we don’t secure this deal. You have to do everything in your power to get it,” he hinted. The rest of the group continued working, but the two seniors paused.

“What?” Max exclaimed, not believing he left his dream company for a mirage after getting it. The HR Manager had begged him, and yet, he refused to stay. “No, you can’t do this. You promised us amazing benefits that made us leave the RD-Group.”

“Mister Roger Dawson had even called me personally to plead with me to stay, and yet, I refused him,” Ryan mused, refusing to go down, but Brad was doing his best to encourage them.

“All is not lost. We just have to win this battle, and we are good to go. No one would lose their jobs.” Little did he know about the surprises the RD Group had prepared for them.
