Chapter 63 Who is next?
The elevator door opened, but Dahlia quickly pressed a button to close it. “Yes, Mrs. Dawson?” she turned to face Karen, who asked seriously, “This deal we are talking about, how much is it worth?”
Dahlia glanced at Roger before responding, “It’s…” she started, but Roger interrupted, not wanting Karen to feel bad. “It’s nothing. Go and get it done.”
Despite her boss's orders, Karen insisted, glaring at Roger. “Well, I want to know.”
Her scowl prevented him from threatening Dahlia with hard stares. “I’m the one who called her, not you,” she argued. Roger was speechless, wondering what his father did to make Karen act this way.
She was different from the women he knew, but he was starting to like it.
However, the moment Karen blinked, Roger's warning glare locked with Dahlia's, making her afraid. “Miss Dawson, it’s nothing much,” Dahlia said, lowering her head. Karen found it strange, especially when Roger avoided looking at her.
“It might be nothing much to him, but it means something to me,” Karen insisted. Dahlia stared at Roger before shaking her head. “Trust me, Miss Dawson. It’s just around…”
“Ten million,” Roger's voice cut in, but Karen's smart brain told her he was lying. “Well, ten million is still money, so we are taking the deal,” she said firmly, making Dahlia smile with admiration.
“I will tell the team to keep going, but we will need new system and software engineers,” Dahlia said, but Roger yelled, “Enough, Dahlia. One more word, and you'll be gone for good.”
Karen knew she had Roger where she wanted him, encouraging Dahlia in a soft tone. “Don’t listen to him,” she said, then raised her voice. “I’m his boss,” she announced, stunning everyone. They expected Roger to refute it, but he remained silent.
With a smile, Karen turned to face him. “Isn’t it so, Stallion?” She wanted him to confirm it verbally.
Roger's lips pursed together, his greatest fear being losing her. If she was using this tactic, he could also turn it to his advantage.
“In that case, you have to sign this,” he held out his phone to her. Karen took a deep breath when she saw the document again. Her only reason for mentioning being Roger’s boss was to have insight into the matter, but now she felt trapped. “I…”
“If you don’t, then allow me to do things my way,” Roger smiled. Karen gave up, gritting her teeth as she forced a smile. “Thanks for gifting RD-Group to me, my darling husband.”
Everything happening felt like a movie to those around, serving as witnesses, but this also meant they messed up big time.
Karen was not just the boss’s wife but his Achilles heel. He hung on her every word as if his life depended on it, even gifting her his hard work. This was unseen before, and Loretta wished she had some kind of spell to make her disappear.
As Karen was about to append her signature, Roger added, “And remember, you can never leave me again.”
Karen chuckled, signed, and typed a few things at the end. “What makes you think so?” She asked daringly. Roger smirked when he saw the signature. “That’s the condition for your taking over the Company.”
Pretending to dust something off his shirt, Karen smiled at him. He was enchanted, finding it cute, but her words caused a level of unease to wash over him. “Then you should read the last part.”
Roger’s eyes squinted as she zoomed the content and read its details. “Should Roger Dawson, my husband, fail within our one-week deal, I get to walk away without any of the above-mentioned assets.’
In other words, he was still under probation, but Dahlia sighed with relief. Working with Karen seemed more unifying than Roger because they both had one thing in common, and that was fighting against losses.
“Mrs. Dawson, the amount in question isn’t ten million but a hundred billion,” she revealed with excitement. Karen paled instantly. “What?”
The fact that Roger was going to give up that amount of money just because of her was both ridiculous and frightening.
How far would he go to make her happy? He didn’t even care about giving up his hard work for her, but Roger’s teeth gritted together, hating Dahlia for exposing everything. If he had his way, he would have fired her.
“You wanted to lose all that money for me?” Karen was touched, but Roger was upset that she found out. “You are worth every dime,” he said seriously, his arms wrapping around her slender waist as he towered over her. “Kitten, I will give you anything, including my life.”
Now everyone around was seeing the depth of the matter, but Karen was more interested in saving the company. “Come on, let’s go.” She grabbed Roger’s hand, but he withdrew it.
Not until I'm done here," he said, his glare focused on the Dawson's security who had already forced Chad to his knees. There was no way he could focus on work when his wife's abusers hadn't been punished, but Karen was having a headache. "Roger, please..."
"Set a timer," he interrupted. "I'll clear this mess in less than thirty minutes."
A sigh of relief escaped Karen, and she set the timer after informing Dahlia, “I need a laptop with every software Roger has on his laptop.” She wasn’t sure if she would have all the hacking software but as CEO she faintly guessed that Roger might have them.
Dahlia nodded and entered the elevator to get everything ready for her new boss.
Seeing a hand separating from the body with blood gushing out in union with a painful scream followed by painful groans as a tongue fell out, Karen's confusion about the Dawsons cleared.
Everything said about them was true. They ruled the mafia but never caused any trouble as long as no one stepped on their toes.
It was a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the Dawsons. The reception area looked as if they were being filmed for a horror movie as Roger's angry deep voice echoed.
"Get him the hell out of here. He's fired," he added coldly as he glared at Simon. "Who is next?"
