Chapter 62 No one messes with my wife
Roger was about to explain to Karen the side of the Dawsons she was not ready to see, but the elevator doors opened, and Dahlia stepped out, instantly recognizing Karen.
She remembered her boss being all over her at the party.
Now it made sense to her why there was chaos in the office. If not for putting it back together, she would have arrived earlier. Seeing Roger’s jacket around Karen’s shoulders, an unforeseen discomfort flunked her.
“Mrs. Dawson, are you alright?”
“I said it. We should have just verified from Dahlia, but you chose to fire me instead,” Sandra ranted, catching Dahlia’s attention. “What happened, Sandra?”
The receptionist was like a powerhouse when she began to narrate the events of earlier. “They bullied Mrs. Dawson, calling her an imposter. Chad even slapped her.”
At the mention of Chad’s name, Roger’s anger doubled, and he ordered, “Chop off his hand.”
He wanted to deal with Chad himself, but every time he punched someone, the person would be knocked out, some dying in the process, but he didn’t want that for Chad.
He wanted Chad to feel a thousand times the pain he inflicted on his wife through that slap.
As Chad was apprehended, panic filled the atmosphere, and Dahlia feared. She had witnessed something like this with Don Gio, and it wasn’t an interesting sight.
“Mister Dawson, please, your wife hit me back so I should be forgiven,” he pleaded. Roger’s brows furrowed, not believing it, but everyone present then nodded their heads in agreement.
Karen had surprised him when she dealt with Tonia in the ladies’ restroom, but that was an all-girls affair. Taking a bulky man like Chad into consideration, he found it impossible, unless…
He didn’t have to think about it longer. Karen had spent months under his father’s watch and when their eyes met, she wasn’t remorseful.
“I hit him back, and so what?” Karen stared daringly at Chad. Roger feared a little. She had even slapped him earlier, making him wonder what his father had done to bring out this side of her.
During his time at the Fletchers' residence, Karen was always the shy and weak one, but now, it was clear that she had a dose of the Dawsons' style inside her.
The Karen he knew was just as fragile as his then kitten and hence the nickname, but now, he felt like it didn’t belong to her anymore.
“I wanted to leave it at taking just your hand, but for you to think you deserve forgiveness because she slapped you back, I’ll need your tongue as well,” Roger pronounced, heart rates picked up pace.
Chad knew it was best not to say another word as that would only worsen his situation, swallowing his fears and sorrows.
He was just doing his job by protecting a staff member who needed it, so how could everything turn against him?
However, Karen liked to play fair. “His hand is enough for me. I feel disgusted that he laid it on me.”
Roger smiled at her. He feared she might be scared of the dark side of the Dawsons, but not anymore. “You can have his hand, but I’ll still take his tongue for daring to defend himself against you,” he said coolly but the finality in his tone was not missed.
Chad lost hope, tears washed his face like rain, and his pants were wet. “He peed in his pants,” someone said, but no one was able to laugh as funny as it seemed.
Panic saturated the atmosphere as Roger ordered the Dawson’s security members. “What are you waiting for?”
Dahlia couldn’t watch as she quickly strode to Roger and whispered to him.
“Sir, can we keep them somewhere? The deal is still on, and our systems seem to be under attack. The IT team cannot hold it much longer without you, Ryan, or Max around.”
A frown creased Roger’s brows. “What happened to Max?” he asked, feeling like the world was against him today.
Dahlia swallowed tightly and revealed, “He resigned about thirty minutes ago, and now we are particularly exposed, if you get what I mean.”
Roger understood that Brad had bought over Max as well. Stealing his senior programmer as well as senior system engineer, Brad must have planned to cripple the RD Group Game Branch, and from the look of things, they won because Roger did not have the time to fight this alone.
He did not want to lose his wife in the course of fighting to keep that branch afloat. It felt like a test of his abilities, and to have something, he had to lose something.
“It’s okay. Let Silent Chase have Freddie’s Games. No one messes with my wife and gets away with it.”
Dahlia found it romantic but was concerned about the money loss. “Sir, with all due respect, that…” She was about to mention the hundreds of billions that would be lost with that deal when Roger cut her off.
“Enough, Dahlia, inform the team about my decision. They should back off and focus on other important matters.”
Roger’s voice was harsh, and as much as Dahlia wanted to suggest him delaying the punishment of these undeserving time wasters, she feared for her life and was deflated. “Yes, sir. We’ll prepare the necessary documents.”
Karen had heard everything and remembering Van’s words that she should help Roger if she cares so much, she couldn’t stand by and watch things go down.
If the loss wasn't much, then she could support Roger's decision. After all, he was doing all this because of her. But if not, then she'll have to talk some sense into him and find a way to help. Dahlia was already at the elevator when Karen called her.
"Dahlia, right? Please wait." Her boldness amazed Roger, and he stared at her with interest. What else did she have up her sleeve?
