Chapter 64 Disown her
Simon dropped to his knees. “Mr. and Mrs. Dawson, please forgive me. I never meant for any of this to happen and was just doing my job in protecting our employees.”
“Sir, do you want us to take care of him?” One of the Dawsons’ security members asked, but Roger turned to face Karen. “Boss, what do you want done to him?”
Karen’s cheeks pinked at being called boss Simon’s head lowered, unable to look Karen in the eyes as he pleaded, “Mrs. Dawson, I’m really sorry, but I have a family.”
“And you think I don’t? This is a corporation, for crying out loud. If Roger hadn’t come, you would have let me spend my day at the station until a lawyer arrives to clear my name when you could have verified everything from his secretary like the receptionist suggested,” Karen explained, and Roger was nodding in admiration.
She had never worked before, but common reasoning was enough to guide her ways. Why didn’t he see all this in the past, being blinded by Tonia’s beauty?
Karen’s intelligence not only made her smart but also beautiful. “At first, I thought Roger failed to put in proper administrative structures, but after Sandra put the suggestions across, I realized that some employees use their own blinded selfish egos to do things that tarnish the image of company, and as such, we can’t work with you anymore.”
“No, no, no,” Mrs. Dawson, punish me but don’t fire me,” he pleaded, his eyes moist. No company would pay him as much as the Dawsons, but Karen smiled at him and pointed at Sandra. “But you fired her. Did you think about her family when you did that?”
Simon was speechless. Had he not acted on impulse, it would have been easier for him to defend himself, but now, there was no way out of the situation except for the one who caused it.
“It was all her fault,” he pointed at Loretta, who looked like she was half-dead from shock.
Everyone agreed with him. “Yes, yes, Loretta is the cause of it. She misled us by saying Mister Dawson was in love with her sister’s best friend.”
“I’m coming to that,” Karen sighed as she looked into the faces of all those who mocked her before returning her gaze to Simon.
Besides being fired from here, I don't believe you will bring value to any other company, so we will ensure you remain unemployed for at least two years and learn how to treat people better."
"It could be someone else next time, someone without a powerful family to support them, and news could spread about the Dawsons being cruel, when it was just a few uncouth employees."
"Please, Mrs..."
"Say another word and your entire family might pay," Roger interrupted. Simon glanced at where Chad had been taken out. He didn't want to follow the same path because the Dawson's security team was ruthless.
"Loretta," Karen mentioned, the latter trembling. "You were in charge a while ago, but look at you now. So many people are suffering because of you."
"Karen, please, it's not me, it's Tonia. She lied to me," Loretta tried to explain. Karen laughed. "Save it, Loretta. It's all on you. You chose to believe Tonia over me, and that's your problem."
Loretta shook her head, but a faint smile crossed her lips as she remembered something. "But you can't fire me. My dad is a board member."
Her fears vanished suddenly, and she wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. "Board members' families are untouchable," she added, smirking, wondering why she hadn't remembered this before.
Roger smiled, but it was icy, sending a shiver down Loretta's spine. "I think I'm going to give your father a call."
"Mr. Summers, thanks to your daughter, I have to remove you from the RD-Group board," Roger said solemnly. The confused voice of a middle-aged man came through the line.
"Roger, I don't know what my daughter did to upset you, but my position on the board was earned through my hardwork and long-standing relationship with your father."
"Call your daughter and find out what she did. You have two options. Disown her, or I remove you from the board."
He was trying to not go the Dawsons way since Loretta had not dared to touch Karen but her father was too proud. "No, I love my daughter, and your father would not agree to this."
"Wanna bet? I suggest you find out what your daughter did first."
After Roger's call ended, Loretta's phone rang, and even without it being on speaker, her father's angry voice could be heard.
“What the heck did you do to piss off Roger Dawson, the CEO of the Dawson Group?"
"Dad, he used to be Tonia’s bodyguard before, and he was obsessed with her. I just put Tonia’s sister in her place, and he got upset."
The call ended as Roger nodded. "Nice lie, but don’t be smug about it." Loretta was about to say something when Roger’s phone rang.
Seeing his father’s call, he knew it involved the matter at hand and put it on speaker.
"Roger, can you tell me why you want the Summers out of the board?"
"Well, his daughter disrespected my wife, causing my security to slap her."
The other side of the line went silent as everyone waited in anticipation. When Giovanni spoke again, Loretta was as pale as a ghost.
