Chapter 61 Send me five
Roger’s piercing glare could break through steel, and his icy voice could freeze the entire ocean. Moving swiftly, he removed his jacket and covered Karen’s shoulders with it, but her eyes were filled with anger. “You are late.”
Roger wanted to cry for not noticing on time that something was going on right inside his building. “I’m sorry.” His voice cracked as he glared at the officers. “Get the damn thing off her wrists.”
Onlookers were stunned to see the mighty CEO so vulnerable in front of this little girl.
The officers shivered at the icy voice and quickly uncuffed Karen as Roger pulled her into his warm embrace.
Pulling away, he saw the red fingerprints on her face. That was the part he saw on camera before leaving his office. His gaze landed on the security man who slapped his wife, as he read the name tag.
“Chad.”
Everyone at the reception tried to look for a way of escape, but Chad was drenched in cold sweat under Roger’s intense gaze.
Unfortunately, the elevator doors refused to open for those who reached it, so they aimed for the stairs when Karen slapped Roger hard on the face. She wanted him to have a taste of the embarrassment she faced in his company.
“You told me to come and do what? Is this how you run a company? They trampled on my dignity.” Her voice was filled with pain and regret, but her action caused those who wanted to escape before to pause.
Chad was excited because the CEO was going to see his wild wife for who she truly was.
“Did she just slap the CEO?” Loretta murmured, feeling excited that Roger was going to unleash his anger on Karen. The man looked like he was ready to murder someone.
There was a stunned silence as not only her but also everyone around was expecting his anger to flare up, but Simon almost had a heart attack when he saw the CEO drop to his knees before apologizing.
“I was so busy, but then I wondered why you hadn’t arrived yet. When I checked your location, you were in the building, and since my secretary had already seen you before, I didn’t think you would encounter any problems. I’m so sorry.”
Karen was about to say something, but the sound of footsteps hurrying up the stairs distracted them as Roger rose from his knees, his deep furious voice ringing behind them. “You only worsen the case by running.”
They turned around like deer caught in headlights. Loretta was shaking like a hen drenched in rain.
“Mr. Dawson, we saw her with your black card,” Simon was saying as he handed the card over to Roger.
“And you think she stole it?” Roger asked in a dangerously calm tone. “Where is your proof?”
Simon’s face drained of color. “Ehm,” he stammered. “Please, sir, we didn’t know she was your wife.”
“I told you. You just refused to listen because you all judged me and never bothered to verify like Sandra suggested. You even fired her,” Karen’s voice cut through, and Roger realized there was more to the matter.
This was a woman he had already hurt once, reducing his chances of a future with her, and just as he was making progress at meeting her demands, they ruined everything. “You all are fired, and I’ll make sure that no other company employs you.”
With the officers around, he didn’t want to use any form of violence to not confirm the rumors about the ruthlessness of the Dawsons.
Onlookers were the most affected. They hadn’t contributed to the abuse, except listening and taking the wrong side, so how could they be penalized as well?
“No, no, no, it hasn’t come to that,” one of them said. “We did nothing,” he added, instantly hiding his phone. He had been recording before, but now, that could be used against him.
Simon dropped to his knees, but Roger turned to the police officers.
“Officers, you are no longer needed.” He couldn’t let them witness what he wanted to do to those who dared to touch his wife.
“Won’t you need some law enforcement? Someone has to pay for the misinformation,” one of the officers pointed out, but Roger wanted to handle this the Dawson’s way.
His gaze softened a little, just as his lips stretched. “It’s alright. It's an internal affair. Nothing I can’t handle.”
With a smile, the officers left as Roger dialed a number and ordered coldly, “send me five.”
No one understood the meaning of his words until men in black barged into the reception area and began to lock the doors. “The Dawson's security? We are doomed,” Simon murmured, regretting getting involved in this matter.
The atmosphere was terrifying, and even Karen shivered with confusion. “Roger, who are these people?”
