Chapter 60 His wife
Loretta smiled upon receiving the text message. “You all heard her. What are you waiting for?” she yelled. Karen remembered the chauffeur and realized she could use his phone to reach Roger.
“Don’t blame me for what's coming to you if I don’t see Roger now,” Karen said as she turned to go back the way she came. However, Simon signaled the security at the entrance, blocking her path. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but you can’t leave,” he said.
Karen turned to face them, feeling her anger rise. “Now what?”
“You assaulted our staff and stole from our boss. We need to press charges,” Simon explained.
Karen felt a headache coming on. How did a perfect day turn into this? “Alright. Call the cops,” she sighed in frustration as Simon dialed 911 and reported the incident.
But Loretta wasn't finished. “You have to kneel and beg me to forgive you for slapping me,” she demanded.
Karen chuckled, her gaze cold. “Oh, Loretta, you won’t know what hit you. Did you know that Tonia has been expelled from school? Maybe you should call your sister and find out.”
“You lying bitch,” Loretta snarled and lunged at Karen, who dodged, causing Loretta to fall on her face. Onlookers rushed to Loretta’s aid.
“Sir, this woman is out of control. We can’t wait for the cops,” one of them said, Simon agreed.
“You're right. Security, deal with her,” he ordered. Karen pursed her lips, annoyed at being treated like a criminal, but she didn’t make it easy for them.
“If you lay a finger on me, not only you but your entire family will pay,” she warned but the two hefty men laughed mockingly. “Such big words from a small rat like you.”
One of them reached out to restrain Karen, but she swerved, frustrating him. The second one tried, with the same result.
“Wait,” the receptionist spoke up. “We have protocols here. Let me contact the CEO's secretary, Dahlia, to verify her identity. If she is who she claims to be, then we'll all be in trouble.”
Her words made sense, but they found it hard to believe that a young girl like Karen could be well-connected. “You know what, Sandra, you are short-sighted. You heard Tonia, and yet you want to call Dahlia? I think you are tired of working here,” Loretta insinuated, causing Sandra to pale.
“No, please, I was just trying to follow protocols."
"You don't need this job. I'll inform HR to find your replacement," Simon finalized, Sandra was in tears, but Karen comforted her.
"Don't listen to them. The only people who might get fired are they."
A slap met her face from behind, and Karen felt dizzy as her vision blurred. She turned to see that two more security men had joined the other two.
Gritting her teeth, she hopped and punched him hard on the face, poking his throat with one hand and landing perfectly on her feet.
The security man staggered backward and fell hard on the floor.
"Gracious God, what did you do to him?" Simon asked. Karen pursed her lips. "You saw what he did to me." Her face did not only turn red but also burned from the slap as the other security team helped to get the fallen one from the floor.
The police arrived promptly as the manager reported, "Officers, take her away. She assaulted our staff and stole from our CEO. Our lawyers will come to see you."
"Ma'am, you are under arrest. Anything you say or do can and will be used against you in a court of law," one of the officers said to Karen, her eyes watery.
What a way to ruin her time with Roger. Why hasn't he even tried to call her? Did he not care that she had taken too long to come?
At this juncture, she was as upset with Roger as she was with these people. Without a word, she allowed the cold silver to be cuffed around her wrist as Loretta smiled sluggishly.
"I'll make sure to visit you in jail, and I'll bring Tonia along," she mocked.
Karen was depressed, and since she didn't want anything to be used against her, she remained quiet.
"We shall leave now," the same officer said to Simon. The latter replied, "Thanks for coming on time and saving us from chaos. We shall send our lawyers."
"That girl deserves to rot in jail. She's so wild and violent," one of the staff among those gathered around said, and the rest agreed.
“Yes, she needs to spend a long time there."
However, a unique beeping sound drew everyone’s attention. “It’s the CEO’s elevator,” Simon said in a panicked voice. Sandra added, “It hasn’t been used on this side for a while. The CEO uses the special exit.”
Something was not sitting right with her. Simon ordered the officers, “Please take her away. Our CEO must not see this mess.”
Karen’s heart fluttered. “The CEO was Roger, so he must have figured there was a problem.”
“Let me go,” she snarled as the officer tried to force her away. The second one held her by the other arm to help drag her out when the elevator door slid open, and a tall, intimidating man stepped out of it.
His expression was dark, and his voice icy. “How dare you touch my wife?”
Gasps filled the air. “His wife?”
