Chapter 59 I won’t go down alone
Karen’s mood was soiled. Loretta James was the sister of one of Tonia’s minions, who never liked her. She eyed Karen from top to bottom, surprised to see her like this.
“What are you wearing? Tonia said you were disowned, and Roger was still chasing after her. Even as a bodyguard, he never liked you, and now that he’s a CEO, I can’t wait for his wedding with Tonia.”
Karen wanted to laugh. It seemed to her that Loretta was only standing on old news without a chance at the latest events, or Tonia was just too ashamed to let her in on the latest update.
“You know what, Loretta, talking too much makes your mouth so wide, it’s disgusting.”
Loretta’s contorted expression made Sandra laugh, but with a glare from the latter, her expression turned serious. “I’m sorry.”
“Come on, dear, you can laugh all you want, it’s a free world,” Karen encouraged her. Loretta was boiling with rage. Karen used to be so shy, so what happened?
Why was she carrying herself with such confidence? “You get out of here before I get security to kick you out,” she roared, and Karen’s gaze matched hers.
“I’d like to see you try it,” she said calmly as she removed her phone from her handbag to call Roger, but Loretta hit it, causing it to fall and the screen to crack.
“Oh no,” her eyes were moist as she knelt on the floor and picked it up. Van had given her that phone to help with her work, and it served as her laptop, when she needed to work remotely, containing all her software and confidential details.
She had secretly searched for it online but couldn’t find it because Van had it custom-made for her. Something died inside of her. “How could you?” She looked up with tears in her eyes, broken from inside.
Loretta snatched her bag and emptied the contents on the floor. Seeing the call card and black card, she began to scream. “Thief! She stole the CEO’s black card.”
Some of the staff, including a Senior Manger gathered as Karen rose from the floor, her eyes puffy. “Do you know how much this phone costs?”
Everything the Dawsons gave was super expensive, and she knew the phone was no exception. Where did you get that? Only the higher-ups use this customized phone, but this, in particular, is only used by Don himself," the senior manager, Simon Bonney expressed, studying Karen from head to toe.
A smile stretched the corner of Loretta’s lips. "See? She stole it because she stalked Mr. Dawson for months. She should be arrested."
"That is a serious accusation," Simon observed, staring keenly at Karen’s tear-filled eyes. "Is what she’s saying true?"
"I didn’t steal the phone. It’s a gift. I’m here to see Roger. Can you let me in?"
The mention of Roger caused those around to gasp, wondering if she had a death wish for casually addressing the CEO by his first name.
"You address the CEO by name?"
"Mr. Dawson is in love with her sister, Tonia. He disguised as a bodyguard just to be with her, but Karen here has been obsessed with the union. I can call her sister to confirm. Mr. Dawson would be upset to…"
Her last words were drowned with a slap that sent her to the floor. Everyone was stunned, but Karen’s eyes were red. "Before you open your big mouth again, I demand that you pay for this phone."
"Young lady, violence isn’t permitted here," Simon cautioned as Karen followed up with another slap. Loretta was wailing like a baby as Karen turned to face Simon.
"Since you didn’t see what she did, I suggest you close your eyes and watch me deal with her."
"I’m sorry, but I’ll have to call security. This is an office, and you have to go."
"I’m here to see Roger, and trust me, he’ll do worse if you stop me from going up there."
Simon laughed, and so did those around. "Now this is getting ridiculous. Did you lose some screws in your head?"
"Yes, she’s insane. Her sister said before that she drugged Mr. Dawson and even slept with him to get him to marry her, but I guess she failed to win his heart. If not, she would have been announced alongside the CEO," Loretta said through tears.
It made sense to everyone that the new CEO’s wife was never mentioned, which meant he was single, but they still couldn’t believe that he got entangled with someone like Karen.
She was decent-looking and graceful, whereas most CEOs or men of power would prefer to be with model-like figures. I hope you have proof of what you are saying?" Simon asked.
Loretta quickly dialed Tonia's number and put it on speaker.
"Tonia, your wannabe sister is at my office causing chaos. She even slapped me twice and insists on seeing Mr. Dawson. We all know Mr. Dawson has always been obsessed with you."
At the end of the line, Tonia had just been expelled from the university and, looking for a way to dispel her pain, she took advantage of the situation to make a scapegoat of Karen.
"Loretta, thanks for telling me. Karen is so pathetic and has always been obsessed with my man. Deal with her for me."
Karen was gritting her teeth together. The fact that her phone was destroyed worsened matters. "Tonia, I wanted to go easy on you, but now you leave me no choice,” Karen yelled to Tonia’s hearing on the phone, the latter’s anger increased.
"Oh, shut up, Karen. I've told Mom and Dad to have you checked for brain damage, but if I see you close to Roger again, I swear I'll kill you."
"Did you get expelled yet? I'll make sure you..." Karen was saying when the line died. Tonia was afraid they might see through her lies, but at least she got Karen where she wanted, and she just had to wait for the good news.
She even sent a text message after. 'I'm at the library,’ she lied, adding, ‘but please send me a video of everything.'
After sending the text, she smiled maliciously. "Karen, I won't go down alone."
