Chapter 357 The Mysterious Person Behind the Scenes
Chapter 357 The Mysterious Person Behind the Scenes
The customers in the thrift store all turned to look because of Rachel's scream.
When they saw what was happening outside, everyone froze. Then someone snapped out of it and quickly called the police, while others called for an ambulance at the same time.
By the time Rachel came back to her senses, a crowd had already gathered around her. She heard the faint sound of sirens in the distance and couldn't help trembling. Panicking, she backed away, trying to leave while no one was paying attention.
But unexpectedly, the moment she moved, someone noticed. The person gave her a hard shove and said a few angry words. Rachel couldn't understand and tried to explain, "I didn't mean to..."
But others couldn't understand what she was saying. They only saw her trying to sneak away while everyone was distracted, so they weren't very friendly toward her.
Rachel was terrified inside. She hadn't forgotten her situation, she had snuck out, and she couldn't draw attention to herself. If Alexander's people found out, both she and her brother would be done for.
But now she had not only drawn attention, she'd also attracted the police and an ambulance.
Everyone was watching her now, there was no way she could run.
Rachel didn't dare think about what consequences there might be.
She was extremely panicked now as the sirens grew closer and closer. Soon the police car pulled up by the roadside. After the tall, burly officers got out, people around them gave vivid descriptions of what had happened, pointing at Rachel from time to time.
Then those two officers walked up to Rachel and questioned her.
Rachel was scared out of her wits. She quickly waved her hands and gestured, "I don't know anything... I don't know her, don't come after me..."
Seeing the language barrier, the officers frowned and said a few more words, then took Rachel away.
Soon the ambulance arrived, Nora was lifted onto it and taken to the hospital.
Once Rachel got in the police car, she tried to explain to the officers, but with the language barrier and the officers' lack of patience, Rachel just hit a wall.
She was terrified, but didn't dare call Anthony. Anthony was now a wanted fugitive being hunted by the police; if he showed his face, he'd be dead for sure.
But here, besides her brother, who else could help her?
Rachel didn't know. She didn't even dare to be assume the police would trace back to her brother through her.
She regretted it so much now. If she'd known this would happen, she wouldn't have gone out even if it killed her. Now look; not only was she in trouble, she might drag her brother down too.
It was all that bitch's fault! If it weren't for that bitch, how would she have been taken away by the police?
Rachel hated Nora to death, but unfortunately she didn't know who the woman was. Otherwise, once she got out of this mess, she'd definitely kill that bitch!
The police car sped forward. Just as Rachel was feeling anxious, one officer's phone suddenly rang. After answering, he said a few words, then suddenly looked up at Rachel.
Rachel felt uncomfortable under his gaze and quickly shook her head. The officer soon looked away, said a few more words, and hung up.
Then he made a gesture for Rachel to get out of the car and said something.
Rachel couldn't understand and was afraid she'd misunderstood his gesture, so she didn't dare move.
The officer got a bit impatient, so he unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, and pulled Rachel out of the car.
Rachel watched in shock as the officer just got back in the car and drove off.
For a moment she couldn't even process what had happened.
Had the police just let her go? She didn't have to go to the station for questioning?
She was safe? Her brother was safe too?
But why did they suddenly let her go?
Rachel couldn't figure it out no matter how hard she tried. She decided not to think about it anymore. While no one was paying attention, she quickly walked back the way she came.
On the way, she was extra careful, deliberately taking a long detour before returning to the estate.
But clearly she was overthinking it. Right up until she walked into the estate, no one was following her.
Rachel breathed a sigh of relief, thinking her trip had gone unnoticed. She was about to sneak back to her room when she saw Anthony in the living room, his face dark with anger.
Rachel instinctively stopped in her tracks and called out somewhat nervously, "Bro..."
Anthony's face was grim as he stared at her intently. "Where did you go?"
Rachel opened her mouth but didn't dare speak.
Anthony's anger flared. He grabbed the ashtray from the table and threw it at her, glaring viciously. "I asked you where you went! Where the hell did you go?"
Rachel said carefully, "I just went out for a walk..."
Anthony said through gritted teeth, "Out for a walk? You went out for a walk and yet you managed to attract the police? Do you know how dangerous that was just now? If you'd gone into the police station, I'd be finished! I've told you so many times - just be patient, just be patient, it won't be long before we're free. Did you even listen seriously?"
Rachel's back went rigid. She didn't dare speak anymore.
She knew Anthony already knew everything.
Although she didn't know how he found out, since he knew, he was definitely going to teach her a lesson.
"I was wrong. I'm sorry."
Rachel said quietly.
Anthony looked at her coldly. "You should be glad someone's still helping us behind the scenes. Otherwise, both you and I would have died today because of your recklessness!"
Rachel paused, then asked in surprise, "Did that person behind the scenes help us again? Who is he anyway? Why does he keep helping us?"
Anthony didn't even want to look at her. He said gloomily, "I don't know."
Earlier, while he was working on strategy plans in his study, he'd received a call from an unknown number. The caller told him about all the stupid things Rachel had done, told him to watch his sister, and then said they'd come meet them in a few days.
Meeting this person was something Anthony had been looking forward to all along. This should have been good news, but it was happening because of Rachel's stupidity. You could imagine how disappointed this person must be in the two of them.
Anthony glanced at Rachel and said in a low voice, "Don't worry about what happened outside. That person will handle it. In three days, he'll come meet us. You'd better think about how you're going to explain yourself to him!"
After Anthony finished speaking, he turned and went back to his room.
Rachel stood there in a daze. For a long while, her head still felt dizzy.
Was that mysterious person behind the scenes finally going to appear? Who could it be?
She was a bit curious, but thinking about all the methods this person had used, she was also a bit scared.
At the hospital.
Nora's injuries weren't serious - she'd just been unconscious for a few hours. After her wounds were bandaged, she woke up quickly.
She thought this disaster was over, but unexpectedly, two days later, she received an astronomical bill from the hospital.
She'd just been taken to the hospital by ambulance, had medicine applied and bandages wrapped at the hospital, and at most, because she wasn't at ease, when the nurse told her she could leave, she'd asked the doctor a few questions.
For just this, they wanted nine thousand dollars here!
